Let the populous see what's **REALLY** going on for ourselves in real time.

Crisis averted.

You left out the step in between the primetime debate and the crisis being averted. How does this fix everything/anything?

I may be wrong, but I wonder if one prong of Biden's strategy is "please don't throw me into the briar patch"? IOW, after Kevin is unreasonable, Biden can say "I tried everything; they left me with no choice. I invoke the 14th Amendment."

I think Biden needs to make more use of his bully pulpit in general.

I don't see how bullying any votes get changed. It's all up to Kevin. I'm sure Biden is going to concede to some very bad cuts. Not as bad as we fear but bad enough. Maybe enough for Kevin to save face. That's the position Biden is in unfortunately. I think Kevin looks worse if we default.

A televised debate would elevate McCarthy giving him a platform from which to grandstand. Biden would gain nothing from it.

The moderator just needs to ask Kev each time, "....and exactly how does THAT position help the majority of U.S. citizens?"

It would need a moderator to preface every question with something along the lines of "given that the deficit increased 40% under T**** after saying he would pay it down and your members never complained, explain why..."

I don't think it should be a debate. Just make it an address (fireside or otherwise) to the American people explaining--for the millionth time--that the debt ceiling is merely paying the bills for what has *already* been spent and has nothing to do with future spending or budgets. Also explain how Republicans want to totally crash the economy and why Republicans are willing to totally crash the economy and what will happen if they do.

This is a crisis and as president, Biden can address the nation. McCarthy can not.

The problem is that half the nation won't listen because they are tuned in to Fox News Propaganda

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

Agreed.

Have the nation is listening to FAUX, i.e. has their heads buried up their asses.

So what, FFS.

The other half may listen and many of them may learn something they didn't know because of the reign of terror of Repub misinformation.

And if that energizes them to vote, so much the better.

Biden with a microphone is always entertaining

As are your posts, mirroring the dynamic of FAUX news misinformation and lies.

The best part is that they generate responses of fact checking and actual fact, which renders said misinformation and lies useless and/or irrelevant.

Like shooting fish in a barrel.

That metaphorical version is always entertaining.

What we can always be confident about in these situations is that no matter what happens, we'll all be the ones who get screwed.

Whether we lose half our "wealth" or lose the ability to pay our own bills, you can bet on the fact that the outcome of these "talks" will be all but forgotten within a week of announcement.

As if the last year of watching your hard earned money go bye-bye wasn't enough, keep in mind that any money you might have left is not really disappearing, someone right now is already planning how they're going to spend it for you.

It's a buying opportunity for those with reserves.
I'm sure there is a Rule of Acquisition that covers this.
