E. Jean Carroll’s battle with Donald Trump isn’t done.

The columnist filed a request in a Manhattan court on Monday, asking a judge to increase a $5 million judgment against the former president by a “very substantial” amount in light of his continued harassment of Carroll, who had accused Trump of sexually assaulting her in Manhattan in the mid-1990s.

Trump disparaged Carroll during a CNN town hall that took place just one day after a jury decided the 2024 Republican presidential candidate was liable for sexually abusing and defaming the writer.

I'd think a second lawsuit should mean second judgement, which would be in addition to the first judgement.

I suppose a judgement could be awarded either way.

But if it's an increase of the original award, wouldn't an/one appeal apply to both?

I think I'd want 45* or his minions to have to appeal them separately.

Anyway, I hope she doesn't quit, and that she prevails.

It seems to me that this is a separate action in the sense that the CNN interview was a separate act of defamation that is subject to a new lawsuit. The question I would like to ask is whether the decision that the jury brought in the lawsuit can be considered to be binding (ie: as a finding of fact) that Trump defamed Carroll and should be an entered judgment of responsibility. I would guess that it is not. But perhaps there is a question about how final the current verdict is, and whether an additional act of defamation can be considered equivalent to contempt of court on Trump's part, or something like that.

Another question is whether Carroll could file a new lawsuit in New York.
