I refuse to believe that daily gun violence in certain neighborhoods of Chicago can't be stopped. I can't imagine people struggling with bing afraid to go out at night, hearing gun shots at night every week.
Democratic leaders for decades there have accepted gun violence, failed to deal with it.

Few places have the huge gun violence issues concentrated in small pockets. Places like Austin Illinois, under 100k population, less than 3 sq miles and 77 shootings so far in 2023, Englewood is worse, similar size and population with 86 people shot for 2023.
These shootings don't take into account the massive problems with assaults, robberies, large groups of youths roaming restaurants intimidating patrons.
Chicago as a whole is not exceptionally unsafe, however certain sections are beyond unsafe.

I agree that this many shootings is terrible. You will see gunshot wounds in every big city emergency room (they abbreviate it as GSW in my recollection) but that doesn't excuse Chicago or Nashville or Birmingham or any other place where they occur. But overall, it's our national policy of making gun ownership easy and uncontrolled that is at fault, and it is the limited number of people in small states who tip the Senate the wrong way. Of course the politicians who pander to those people are most at fault.

We never saw this level of reckless gun violence, even before the Brady bill when fully automatic weapons were legal, when actual assault weapons were perfectly legal.

According to the FBI database, fully automatic firearms have only been used in 3 crimes in the US since 1934; 2 of those 3 times the perpetrator was a police officer, the another was a robbery in 1997 where the criminals modified firearms in an attempt to make them fully automatic, but weren't completely successful.

UNLISCENSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! fully automatic weapons. There are about 170K of legally owned fully auto firearms in the US in the hands of private citizens.
I beg of you to be meticulous when you make broad statements that are actually wrong. In reality "effectively banned" just means you pay an extra $200 to the BATFE and they run a really thorough background check.
