Well, that’s one way to rake in the cash.

Saint Cloud, Minnesota, where the weather is wonderful even when it isn't.

He's a craven opportunist. He's ambitious and understands that (I believe?) that No Democrat has been elected to a statewide office since 1994. He appears to be termed out in 2027. Considering the club he just joined, he's just trash.

Lemme see, Texas Republican Ken Paxton is acquitted of accusations of corruption by his fellow Texas Republicans on September 18, and four days later Texas politician Johnson decides to become a Republican… Seeking safe haven???

Dallas is a fair size city that must take a bit of cash (thank you SCOTUS) to, not only run but win, a mayoral campaign. His campaign donors must be a bit upset, too bad they have no recourse.

Some people there in Texas do say it's not surprising that he would do this switch. That he was telegraphing it for a time.

The Mayor of Dallas is one of the least powerful leadership positions in the entire country for a city of that size.

Yes, if he wanted to stay relevant in Texas state-wide politics, he needed to become a non-Dem.

This happens in Illinois, where Chicago politics seldom enables GOP winners. So even conservatives become 'Dems'.

He's Black. That's the biggest part of the problem. The betrayal. Taking sides with the enemy.
