Im guilty of it from time to time, like the last couple of days.
takes only a minute, meh, takes my time away from work for second. I don't expect a rational answer. =)

I'd like to express a bit of a meta view. Threads such as this are simply more food.
Isn't the request for no response actually a response in and of itself?

No.
As opposed to any response to a troll initiated post is feeding a troll.
That is not ignoring someone; nah nah nah I can't hear you is still a response.
One can't stop a troll from joining a thread as long as there's no violation of MRF's TOS.
One doesn't have to respond to the incursion, nor participate in a thread initiated by a troll.
But as these pleas don't work since someone or multiple someone's don't observe the request, subsequent requests are made, and predictably — ignored.
And a meal is served.
Rinse, repeat.

I think a troll's ego and goals receive satisfaction by threads such as this; they have provoked a userbase to lavish attention on them. To me, the logical step ti ignoring a troll is to actually ignore them in toto.
