House GOP members seek to expel Gaetz amid renewed threat to vacate House Speaker McCarthy

House GOP members are preparing a motion to expel Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., amid his renewed threat to pursue a motion to vacate House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

The House Republican members will seek to expel Gaetz if the ethics committee report comes back with findings of guilt, Fox News has learned. One member told Fox News the report is mostly written but does not know what it contains. Yet following threats to vacate McCarthy, the member said of Gaetz, "No one can stand him at this point. A smart guy without morals."

It takes a two-thirds vote to expel. And Republicans are treading on thin ice with their majority. The House is down to 433 members. It’s unclear where things stand with federally indicted Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y. If you were to have members expelled, retire or die, the majority could be right on the edge for the GOP.

The House Ethics Committee has been investigating Gaetz since 2021 on allegations, including campaign finance violations as well as claims of taking bribes and using drugs – accusations the congressman has vehemently denied. Gaetz also denies allegations leaked from a Justice Department sex trafficking probe said to have involved an underage girl.

In a statement to Fox News Digital earlier this year, Gaetz's office confirmed that "the Department of Justice has confirmed to Congressman Gaetz’s attorneys that their investigation has concluded and that he will not be charged with any crimes."

Will it be like Texas, a perfunctory "trial" then send him back to his seat?

I don't understand why they would expel Gaetz but not George Santos? Makes no sense to me.

They ought to expel them both, and MTG and Boebert as well.

Is there still an Iowan Rep (or any other state) with overt Nazi leanings? Kick them out too.

As well as any Reps with explicit and/or incriminating ties to J6?

Oh wait that gives Democrats the Majority? Aw shucks.

First the spending bill and now a Gaetz expulsion - it is nice to see bipartisanship again.

I think it's Steven King you are referring to. I remember him because I grew up in Iowa (left when I was 21) and his name is the same as one of my brothers. He did an interview in 2019 where he expressed that people were too negative about white nationalist/supremacists. Those were the last days of Republicans suffering from the even a little bit of woke-ism and he was condemned by the Republican establishment. He lost his primary contest in 2020 and is now a former congresscritter. If he did that interview today I suspect no one in Republican leadership would say much at all.

Yes that's the one I was thinking of... I believe his replacement is one of the new ilk that knows better than to say those parts out loud but were they to say those things to the base it would probably increase their support.
