In all locations in the US there are laws that do ban knives based on length and design. But that can not be applied to guns per gun nutter logic.

Like limit who has access to fully automatic assault knives and do back ground checks at Outback and Longhorn before letting unknown people have access to knives

Knives have many uses.

Guns are only useful for killing, practicing to kill, or threatening to kill. A small sliver of the population enjoys fondling them.

You keep trying, but it ain’t working.

I will refer to the UK’s approach to weapons control. It seems like your are encouraging it as a model. I applaud your civic mindedness.

Guns ? Nope… shotguns highly controlled and permitted primarily to farmers.
Knives ? Limited to size.
Other weapons like bludgeons and polearms and flails and whatnot… not a chance, unless you are a registered guard at one of His Majesty’s castles.

Wonder why the UK police don’t carry guns in general ? They don’t need them. And the laws are quite clear. Carry a gun in commission of a crime is an instant charge of attempted murder of a police officer.

incorrect. knives fall under the arms category, and are protected. The 9th Circuit just declared the butterfly knife ban in Hawaii unconstitutional. Legislation is PRESUMPTIVELY lawful, and that presumption can be overcome with facts in a court of law. [www.latimes.com] Teter v Lopez

"Defending your own life when in immediate danger to me is a basic right of each person. " Lemon Drop 11/17/2023 03:10 pm

Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008) Private citizens have the right under the Second Amendment to possess an ordinary type of weapon and use it for lawful, historically established situations such as self-defense in a home, even when there is no relationship to a local militia.

"The conclusion is thus inescapable that the history, concept, and wording of the second amendment to the Constitution of the United States, as well as its interpretation by every major commentator and court in the first half-century after its ratification, indicates that what is protected is an individual right of a private citizen to own and carry firearms in a peaceful manner." Right to Keep and Bear Arms: Report of the Subcommittee on the Constitution of the Committee on the Judiciary, United States Senate, Ninety-seventh Congress, Second Session. U.S. Government Printing Office. 1982. Digitized September 30, 2008.

From the NYSRPA v Bruen "Today, we decline to adopt that two-part approach. . . . Despite the popularity of this two-step approach, it is one step too many. Step one of the predominant framework is broadly consistent with Heller, which demands a test rooted in the Second Amendment's text, as informed by history."

Firearms save countless lives and are used to protect people from criminals. Firearms are used for hunting, sport, and even to protect the citizens from a tyrannical government. It's part of what makes the USA better than any other nation ever on Earth.

And we stopped caring about what England does about 230 years ago

you seem to align college with education. More and more we see college kids with little education. For example 60 college kids that were carrying "From the river to the Sea" posters, 49 could not tell someone which river and which sea they were referring to. Could not point out Israel, the sea or the River on a map of the middle east

Pick 60 random folks at a trump rally and ask them to point to just the "Middle East" on a map, let alone locate Israel.

Bottom line: "education" imparts knowledge; less education, less knowledge.

education noun
• the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university
• the theory and practice of teaching
• a body of knowledge acquired while being educated
• information about or training in a particular field or subject

With just a few people killed by PEOPLE using AR-15 rifles, why bother concentrating on that? You're the reason nothing gets done to prevent mass murders.

Want to see photos of children with their arms, heads hacked off by Hamas killers using large knives?

battling an intimate object won't change anything. Even if every AR-15 disappeared tonight, that won't stop killers from using other weapons to kill people.

One man cannot kill 60 people and wound at least 413 in ten minutes from a hotel room with a knife. He can with 1,058 rounds from fifteen legally-purchased firearms: 1,049 from twelve AR-15-style rifles, eight from two AR-10-style rifles, and one round used to kill himself from a Smith & Wesson revolver.

And since on this board we are so very concerned with proper definitions of our firearms, allow me to quote wikipedia lest the use of the word "style" get someones panties all bunched up: "Twenty-four firearms, a large quantity of ammunition, and numerous high-capacity magazines capable of holding up to 100 rounds apiece were found in the suite.[22][23] Fourteen of the firearms were .223-caliber AR-15-type semi-automatic rifles: three manufactured by Colt, two by Daniel Defense, two by FN Herstal, two by LWRC International, two by POF-USA, one with a .223 Wylde chamber by Christensen Arms, one made-to-order by LMT, and one by Noveske. The others were eight .308-caliber AR-10-type rifles, one .308-caliber Ruger American bolt-action rifle, and one .38-caliber Smith & Wesson Model 342 revolver.[22][24][25] Some of the AR-15 rifles were fitted with vertical forward grips and bump stocks,[22][24] the latter of which allowed for recoil to actuate their triggers at a rate of 90 rounds in 10 seconds.[26] The AR-10 rifles were equipped with various telescopic sights and mounted on bipods.[22][27][28]"

By the way, anyone seen any good Black Friday deals on these?

How does taking away the rights of every other peaceful, law abiding citizen help?
We did have a President that acted by banning bump stocks are similar devices that allowed consumer semi automatic weapons fire at full auto speeds. Our current President allowed that to be overturned. Biden also allowed the pistol brace rule to be overturned, although that regulation is stupid. However the market has responded with a massive boost in shorter rifles being sold. Pistol braces were banned on rifles shorter than 16", but now everyone who wanted shorter rifles is buying them.

I think it’s hilarious when this SCOTUS, or lower levels of the judiciary, through the unending efforts of conservatives overturn laws, like Roe, or bump stock bans, and Mr-you-know-who says “Biden allowed it”.

He’s president, not king, like the last guy imagined himself. He plays by the Constitution.

"How does taking away the rights of every other peaceful, law abiding citizen help?"

There's a few young students, Orlando night club patrons, music festival goers and Tree of Life worshippers who might like to offer an opinion on this topic, but they can't. What answer do you have for their families? Or are they just collateral damage in the fight for this right?

Fallacy of composition – assuming that something true of part of a whole must also be true of the whole.

Results matter. Trump delivered. No wars, efforts against gun violence, secure borders, COVID vaccines.....All things that happened with Trump in office.

Presidents influence others. When Trump said "Abortion rights have been decided by the courts, while I am pro life, against abortion, the matter has been decided and is off the table" Statements like that influence other law makers.

Biden has little influence over anything

So what's the solution to reduce gun violence? I hear things like "Ban AR-15s" and "we need common sense gun laws". When we need to end handgun violence and no one seems to be able to define "common sense"

As I’ve offered up many times, we could use other developed countries successful efforts to reduce gun violence as a template.

It’s worked elsewhere; it would work here. Much more practical than “address mental health”, as though mental health issues somehow are restricted to our country alone.
