Wisconsin legislature capitulates on maps

The Republican supermajority in the state legislature has voted to accept new legislative election maps drawn by Democratic Governor Tony Evers. The state supreme court ruled the maps drawn earlier were illegally gerrymandered and threatened to redraw them if acceptable ones were not submitted.

The new maps still slightly favor the Republicans but are considered competitive for both parties.

And almost for sure will not allow them to get supermajorities in the legislature again. Or is that just wishful thinking?

It’s nice they could read the writing on the wall. The Wisconsin legislature has been on a MAGAt tear for a decade.

Electors of Scott Walker, founding MAGAt before P01135809 came along and popularized it.

I wonder if this means that Democrats might pick up a congressional seat?

NVM, misunderstood this is the state level map, not the federal congressional districts which are currently running 1 Dem to 3 Republicans on 8 seats (e.g. 2:6 total off roughly equivalent vote totals.... I think I did the math somewhere else and it was just about 45%:55%.)

Prereply to Ombligo below - I assume that with the Federal Congressional maps those will be appealed until after the 2024 election, ensuring the current ~20% overstatement of Republican support and 2-3 extra Reps in Congress.

there is currently another lawsuit in regards to Congressional seats. The argument is essentially the same, that the districts violate the state constitution
