More on Texas church shooter Moreno and how she got her gun

The Independent:

Quote

The shooter who opened fire at a Houston megachurch before being gunned down by security officers used an AR-style rifle that police say she legally purchased despite a years-long criminal record, a history of mental illness and allegations she threatened to shoot her ex-husband.

...Houston Police Chief Troy Finner did not say whether the AR-15 was purchased retail, which would have required a background check if bought from a federally licensed firearms dealer, or a private sale, which would not. Texas requires no license to carry a rifle or handgun in public. Police added that Moreno also carried a .22 caliber rifle that she did not fire during the shooting.

...Moreno’s rap sheet included charges for forging a $100 bill, a 2009 assault conviction for kicking a detention officer — which resulted in a 180-day county jail sentence — and a 2022 misdemeanor count for unlawfully carrying a weapon.

Well, these don't sound like grounds for taking away God-given rights. Anything else?

Quote

Wesley Wittig, a Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office prosecutor, said Moreno’s mental health history did not come up in the case, but noted there isn't a comprehensive mental health tracking system to flag such issues.

"Such issues":

Quote

Walli Carranza, Moreno’s former mother-in-law, said in court filings that she long tried to alert authorities about the danger her ex-daughter-in-law posed but that authorities failed to take action.

Carranza alleged Moreno had a history of threatening people with guns or being careless with how they were stored around her young son.

...Carranza said that in January 2020 she saw an unlocked gun in her grandson’s diaper bag, and alleged Moreno pulled out a gun and threatened to shoot her ex-husband while their son slept in the back seat of their car.

Carranza said she alerted Child Protective Services in Texas, but was told that until Moreno shot someone or her grandson used the gun, there was nothing the agency could do.

Just another Law-Abiding Responsible Gun Owner™. We can't do anything until they finally pop a bolt and start shooting people, ma'am.

Well, she did. And they do, again and again:

Quote

Texas has had other major shootings involving individuals who legally obtained guns despite documented criminal and mental health histories.

The gunman who killed 26 people and wounded 20 others in the 2017 shooting at a church in Sutherland Springs was able to legally purchase his firearm despite a previous military conviction of domestic violence assault.

In 2023, a man with a history of mental health problems and a prior arrest on charges of assaulting family members killed six people in a violent rampage spanning from San Antonio to Austin. He purchased his gun through a private sale that avoided a background check.

Too bad her son got shot in the head but that is just the price we pay so gunners can stroke their substitute manhood.

So how did she get a gun?

Who's gun should we take away because of her actions?

Who's free speech should be take away because someones "hate speech"?

Who should be banned from driving because someone else drove drunk?

Who's right to practice religion should be banned because a priest rapes a child?

Now in iambic pentameter, thanks to ChatGPT! (I did not submit the last line for fear of ending up on a list somewhere)

So how acquired she a gun, that deadly thing?
Whose weapon shall we seize for her offense?
Whose liberty for hate speech's vile sting?
Whose driving right for another's offense?

When gunners start picketing for the right for ALL airline passengers on THEIR flights to carry any weapon they choose, I will start listening to them and their worship of the 2A.

Or provide the same level of security at every school, shopping mall, sporting event, concert, religious gathering, gang party

How much security would it take to protect 300,000+ people lining the streets of a Superbowl victory parade?

As a sideline, CPS is such an effing joke. Why even bother funding it.

There were over a million people at the Chiefs parade today, and 800 LE. Not nearly enough for a crowd that size in an unrestricted setting in a state witout common sense gun regulations.

There were probably thousands of armed people in that crowd. I doubt the police have all of the shooters in custody, and probably at least one of those 3 didn't shoot anybody today.

Expecting that security and LE response can keep us safe is kind of insane at this point. It's so obviously not the answer.

I'll picket beside you if you make the signs and want to raise the taxes to pay for this.

You worship the 2A language as if it's the voice of a deity, and not a few words written by humans who have a process to literally edit them.

The day you start looking at the horrible loss of human life from 2A worship and start taking action to end it is the first day for a more humane country.

I am saddened that the current polarity makes people blind to these tragedies.

Channeling Upton Sinclair, It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary continued access to his deadly fondle-toys depends on his not understanding it.

Good thing real men tackled this crazed killer and held him until police finished their donuts and came over to arrest him

Has it been verified that the person tackled was a shooter? Crowd sourced justice can ruin innocent lives, see Boston Marathon.

So you're generally anti-police?

Absolutely not, but as with any groups of people, there will be a small number that do not act properly. Plenty of police have been arrested, plenty made mistakes, Police are as a whole, good people. Just like regular citizens, with rare exception, regular Americans are good people, law abiding people. But some commit crimes and some make mistakes
