If it were Orlando it'd be more understandable but Iowa? No explanation just no comic in any of Gannett's 6 or so Iowa Sunday daily's.

Iowa is defensive of its history as a slave state of the Confederacy?

Slavery was outlawed in Iowa when it obtained statehood in 1846; Section 23 of the Bill of Rights in the Constitution of the State of Iowa expressly prohibited slavery.[7] In the years leading up to the Civil War, many Iowans became involved in the Underground Railroad, and famed abolitionist John Brown used Iowa as a base for his anti-slavery campaigns, 1856-1859.[8] The state of Iowa played a significant role during the American Civil War in providing food, supplies, troops and officers for the Union army.

It's a sobering thought to consider that the strip's original group of characters would be in their 70s now.

It is what it is.

Gannett cannot afford to lose its mainly bigoted readers. In my experience Iowa is a very racist state.

Saw the comic yesterday and wondered how it'd fare in some of our "Stan" states…

From my experience in the MSM, Gannett was always shy about ruffling feathers. It was about the stockholders not about journalism. So I am not at all surprised by this.

Ran in the Louisville based Courier-Journal which is a Gannett paper.

I'm a bit unclear. What is objectionable in this? Is it the history? Or the defiance?

It exposes the snowflakes for being snowflakes, and that makes them feel bad.

Because they are snowflakes.

So their marketing people think Iowa is more conservative than Kentucky? It's sad that they may not be wrong. (Former Iowan here.)

You mean you can't see how 'woke' that strip is? We must strip 'woke' from our cultural consciousness. /s

I resemble that remark. I remember Pogo getting bullied by fact checkers too. People need to laugh with and at each other.

Wiki-Pogo
Because some newspapers were wary of printing political satire on the comics page, Kelly sometimes drew two strips for the same day — the regular satirical Pogo strip, and a less-pointed version that he called the "Bunny Rabbit" strips. The 1982 book The Best of Pogo reprinted some of the alternate strips from the presidential election years of 1964 and 1968.[23]

Evidently Doonesbury is no longer on the list of strips available to Gannett newspapers. According to this article, this has been a known fact for some time. It's too hard to put the story into one or two sentences.

Now of course, Doonesbury may have been dropped because Gannett found it to be constantly too liberal. Or it may have been because weekly Doonesburys are all reruns now. Or both. In any event, this particular strip was NOT censored in particular.

So Doonesbury was banned all across Gannett. Too bad.
