Trump wins, defeating Haley in her home state

....Former President Donald Trump won the Republican presidential primary in South Carolina on Saturday, handily defeating the state's former governor and his last remaining GOP challenger, Nikki Haley.

The Associated Press quickly called the race for Trump shortly after polls closed in the state on Saturday.

Though Trump’s latest primary victory seems to have further solidified his path to the Republican nomination, Haley — a one time U.N. ambassador and the governor of South Carolina from 2011 to 2017 — has vowed to campaign on to Super Tuesday, or March 5......

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

She really needs a strong showing on March 5. Stranger things have happened. Otherwise, she will have plenty of time to start working on her memoir…

Am I the only one who finds it interesting that he didn't win by as big a margin as he'd have (presumably) liked? 60-40 is hardly a landslide.

Must have been rigged, that's the only possible explanation.

It's her home state, so she had to do at least a little better.

What do they have beyond Trump? He will lead them all over the cliff. Even the enfeebled McConnell understands that. I'm sure a sizable percentage of them hate his guts. As frightened as I am by the prospects of Trump, Democrats will continue. If Democrats can miracle out a clean sweep, Republicans are toast.

The ONLY downside to her by staying in it is the expense. Everything else helps her for 2028 (and just possibly for this year if tRump is out for some reason: jailed, Alzheimer’s, dies).

What I love about this, is that she is still raising a lot of money

Even though she has ~0% chance of winning the nomination.

There are enough republican donors that hate trump enough to keep he going.

Hopefully she makes this contentious enough that it’ll have a ‘Bernie’ effect on Trump. Judging from the results so far, if she stays in it until the end this year, she has every chance of winning the nomination in 2028.

If Trump wins in 2024 then I have my doubts about a 2028 election.
If Biden wins in 2024, I'd expect Trump to run again in 2028.

I have a hard time believing the GOP (MAGA and all) would nominate him a third time after losing twice?

Final ballpark count was a just under 60-40 split of just over 750k voters. Of the 40% who voted against the erstwhile wannabe incumbent, 60% of them said they would NEVER vote for that grabby man.

Doing the math that means that for every 450k primary voters choosing their well known poison, there are 180k who wisely will not vote that certain doom. If that carries over into the general election then P01135809 may well have some serious electability issues.

It's too certain to know for sure, but I'd really love to see this turn out like the inverse of the 1984 election... where only Alabama's electors are sworn to vote for him.

I'm also tired of hearing about the concerns with Biden's age. Let's have a poll question that asks the correct question: Does your concern with Biden's age have more to do with:
[ ] his performance as President and the team he's built to run the country
[ ] fear that something will happen to incapacitate him before the election in November 2024?

As mentioned in a previous thread, I'm in blue MA, so I'm going to pull a red ballot and vote for her in the MA primary just to cast against Orange Julius. But she still pi$sed me off when she said she'd pardon him if she's elected. Maybe she's just figuring it's safe bet.

He's a little ahead of schedule.

Nine months is a long time. I just wish we could do it quicker, Mr. Governor. I wish we -- is there anything you can do with your vast powers to make that -- you know, in certain countries you're allowed to call your election date. If I had the right to do it, I'd do it tomorrow. I'd say, we're having an election tomorrow.

Henry, is there anything you can do? I want to start up because right from the beginning, Henry McMaster, the governor of this incredible state, and much more importantly, his wife Peggy, she's with him all the way. I'll tell you. I never saw anything. What a couple. But I'd like to ask him to say a few words.

He's a very special man, an incredible governor, very popular in this state. And really, I mean, he gave us some very good advice and he has right from the beginning -- you know, from the day I announced, I had the lieutenant governor, he was the lieutenant governor, and from right at the beginning when I announced, then I said, I don't know the gentleman. Is he good?

They said he's really great. I said, well, I hope so. And you know what, when we're about two weeks, I said that guy is unbelievable. You know, I never got the support of the governor. She supported somebody else but I had the support of somebody much, much better. Henry McMaster, and we won in a landslide. And I'd like to ask the governor to say a few words. Please, Henry?

A tale of two brains

"There is also this focus on Biden's gaffes or other things that are well within the normal limits of aging. By comparison, Trump appears to be showing gross signs of dementia. This is a tale of two brains. Biden's brain is aging. Trump's brain is dementing.

What evidence do you have for that conclusion?

'Phonemic paraphasias' —the substitution of non-words for words that sound similar—are not normally seen until a patient enters the moderate to severe stages of Alzheimer’s.

Some examples of Trump’s non-words: Beneficiaries becomes 'benefishes.' Renovations become 'renoversh.' Pivotal became 'pivobal.' Obama became 'obamna.' Missiles became 'mishiz.' Christmas became 'Crissus.' Bipartisan became 'bipars.'

This is a fundamental breakdown in the ability to use language.

If you were talking to your father on the phone and he did this you would think he is having a stroke.

There is no healthy older person who speaks that way...

There is also a person's baseline. This is an essential tool for evaluating a person's mental decline.

If you look at Trump's interviews and speeches from the 1980s for example, he may have always been a bit of a jerk, but he was articulate and polished.

Now if you look at Trump there is great deterioration.

By comparison, Biden has never been the most articulate person; he always had a stutter.

He always made gaffes...Over the decades we have not seen much evidence of deterioration in Biden's speaking."

Trump also called his wife "Mercedes" in his CPAC speech last week.

And in his victory speech last night he had to read the names of his immediate family from a card.

If Pres. Biden called the First Lady Janice it would be headlines for a week.

Regarding yesterday in my state I can only quote Mr. James Louis Petigru of Charleston, 1860...

"South Carolina is too small for a republic, but too large for an insane asylum.”
