Politicians Who Promise Cheap Gasoline Prices If Only You Elect Them

Often times I hear friends and relatives talking about, or posting about how great the price of gas was on November 5, 2020. The price that they use is typically $1.80 per gallon (the actual national average price was $2.11). I also hear politicians promising that we can we return to those days, if only we elect them. Drill baby drill....

I don't get political with them, I just state the facts, and give them sources that can't be disputed. It always seems to fall on deaf ears. If I respond to their posts, my posts get deleted.

Fact:

"The United States produced more crude oil than any nation at any time, according to our International Energy Statistics, for the past six years in a row. Crude oil production in the United States, including condensate, averaged 12.9 million barrels per day (b/d) in 2023, breaking the previous U.S. and global record of 12.3 million b/d, set in 2019. Average monthly U.S. crude oil production established a monthly record high in December 2023 at more than 13.3 million b/d."

I also remind them that 2020 was a very bad year for the O&G industry.

I'll keep on trying my best to educate people, but at times it does seem to be pointless.

The price was even lower earlier in 2020, but it was a very unique year. Consumption dropped due to the nation being in lock-down, people weren't driving to work, and air travel was almost non-existent.

It was a $1.80 for about 15 minutes in 2020.

In constant dollars, the annualized average gas price has been +/- $4.15 a gallon, every year since the early 1980s. Every. Year. Including 2020.

The prices could have been even lower in mid 2020 with the shutdown. The C-Store company I work for (and all competitors around me) had more than double the normal CPG (cent per gallon) profit margin during g this time. The shutdown cut travel and gas use WAY down, and of course the sales in the C-store were way down. We needed the extra CPG to stay open. Mom and Pop stores would have closed without it.

OT

"C-Store"?

"C-Store is a database management system (DBMS) based on a column-oriented DBMS developed by a team at Brown University, Brandeis University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Massachusetts Boston..."

Yeah, I guessed it was for "convenience store", but all of us have a tendency to assume everybody else just inherently knows the vernacular of every industry out there.

I worked at a company that marketed to the broad general public, but insisted on having a website link listed as merely "t&c", as if that broad general public just knew what it stood for.

"ecosystem of disinformation" giggle, giggle, giggle.

"George Soros was building mansions in Hollywood to house undocumented immigrants. "

didn't come right out and say the Jews or space lasers, but the thought is bountiful.

and what about the documented immis?. What about them?

"medbeds". sheesh! some people spend too much time in the hot sun.

This seems appropriate to post again...

“No one in this world, so far as I know — and I have searched the records for years, and employed agents to help me — has ever lost money by underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people. Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby.”

There was a gas station on the way to our golf course that had gas for less than $1 for a week or so in 2020. Apparently this was a price scattered around in a few places. It was pretty remarkable but, of course, didn't last very long.

In your car you should get around 4 miles for that 14 cents.
Assuming a 40 mpg gasoline equivalent engine that would make 40 miles = 1 gallon = $1.40

Wow, excuse me for using an abbreviation that probably 90 % of the readers here understood.
In the future i will be sure spell out every word, to make sure there is zero chance of any thought having to be put in by the reader to comprehend my post.

Making my point. People IN an industry just assume everyone else is familiar with their vernacular.
