RFK makes it official - he's out and he's backing Trump

This is the guy that sought the DEM nomination.

What are his supporters thinking right now?

If you were all in for RFK, how could you support either of the other guys? The whole point of the campaign was to give the voters another option.

I gotta think that they are just gonna stay home and fling crap at the TV for three months.

PS - apparently Trump loves the sound of "Trump - Kennedy" and is asking everyone if he should take RFK as his running mate - they all say no, but then he mutters, "Trump/Kennedy... hmmmm..."

That would be an incredibly sh!tty thing to do to Vance, and he has already set the bar pretty damn low.

He's been shopping himself to the highest bidder for weeks.

When Harris told him to suck eggs, Trump was able to get him cheap.

very presidential...

basically Harris to Trump - 'he's yours if you want him'.

a non trivial disavowal of a family member - a brother - shouldn't be taken lightly. Still, it'd probably have a bit more Oomph! if the whole clown car of Kennedys - 11 in all - had signed off on it.

One can only imagine which way the winds would be blowing today if RFK, Jr., Bobby, was anything at all like his father … instead of just being a Junior.

I listened to about 3 minutes of his speech, where he was talking about healthy food, and working on that with the Trump Administration. How funny is that, given Trump’s diet habits, the GOP’s view of school lunches, let alone attempts to make them healthier.

And Trump would tell him to fire everyone and shut it down, and then resign because his job has been eliminated. And then remind him of a story about a snake.

There was 3 car RFK Jr cavalcade touring around Chicago last night near the Athenaeum Theater around 7:00PM. If I wasn't with someone whom I didn't want to think me an absolute boor I would have shouted things at them like "brain worm ridden bear eating oligarch wannabe" and "trumping traitor" and "antivaxx loonie."

We need to ask the serious question - was the will of the people seriously intended by the founding fathers to be circumscribed by 10000 voters out of a population MANY TIMES that as an artifact of an institution intended to preserve slavery?

What would be the consequences of hereafter ignoring the electoral college?

OR, in a bizarro world I don't want to live in, if a convicted felon and rapist grifter somehow wins the popular vote but not the electoral college? (How could that happen? A simple flip-flop claiming to adhere to pro-choice, gun control, pro-palestinian policy measures. His base would still vote for him and there are enough suckers in every crowd...)

For me, maybe the worst thing about him is that he seduced a number of my more lefty/new age friends into supporting him: "A pox on both their parties. He's independent! He's a free thinker." Some of these people are significant to me. I don't know what they'll do now--maybe come back to sanity, maybe get crazier and support Trump. Dunno. Sad.

We put so must trust in what other people say, report, convict others on. Right, wrong, indifferent - there is so much crap information conveyed as fact about all the different people in the spotlight. Social media and algorithms for online sites in general are also, in general, incredible today for focusing the information a user consumed towards that consumer's existing biases/leanings and thus further supporting self reinforcement of beliefs on people, data, events, etc that are already 'self accepted' or 'what self wants to hear/see/believe'.

Having met some of the interesting people from various walks in person vs. the media portrayals - and even some deep diving into fact vs. reported context.... it's pretty sad who's probably really winning with this continued polarization and general defamation of our leaders of all parties. There is good reason why foreign agencies use bots, etc to strengthen the wedges between those with different beliefs.

We don't need to look too far past our own households and extended families to know the truths within and some of the crap we stand up against defending those being unfairly named/shamed, etc.

At the end of the day, my trust is in God first and foremost.

I know I am only human and do the best I can to leave ultimate judgement to the only one that is all knowing.

It's not that difficult.

The contrasts are pretty stark to me. God gives us tools and resources to act. Not just wait around for evil to retract it's onslaught.

These people are promising people that they intend to change for the worse how Medicare works. How Social Security works. Sure, some people won't need those programs. But people will.

Ukranians can't just hope God steers Russia out of their country. They have to use what they can to kick their butts back to Russia.

The devil is on the doorstep. He told his people that this is the last time they'll need to vote. His words. This isn't some "both sides" thing.

This is a link to a far-right-wing, authoritarian magazine, so if you don't want to click on it, that's understandable.

They published the transcript of RFK, Jr.'s speech, and it is kind of weird, to say the least.

[im1776.com]

Among the examples of weird is this snippet:
Quote

I want everyone to know that I am not terminating my campaign. I am simply suspending it and not ending it. My name will remain on the ballot in most states. If you live in a blue state, you can vote for me without harming or helping President Trump or Vice President Harris. In red states, the same will apply. I encourage you to vote for me.

And if enough of you do vote for me, and neither of the major party candidates win 270 votes, which is quite possible, in fact, today our polling shows them tying at 269, and I could conceivably still end up in the White House in a contention election. But in about ten battleground states, where my presence would be a spoiler, I’m going to remove my name, and I’ve already started that process and urge voters not to vote for me.

I'd love it if someone can explain what he is saying here? He's dropping out in battleground states, but not in the other states, so that he won't be a spoiler. But he thinks he could end up winning if he keeps either candidate from achieving 270 votes -- which where I come from is called being a spoiler.

Even a Democratic sweep of the Presidency and both Houses of Congress will leave the incoming administration facing a extremely hostile federal judiciary and SCOTUS all sitting in lifetime sinecures with little motivation to help. That judiciary is capable of inflicting real damage to any attempt to administer and govern the country.

Our government structure sits on a broken foundation with no means available to reconstruct or even repair it, at least no means that are apparent right now.

To be fair, that foundation was fairly solid so long as good faith actors of all political persuasions were acting in what they thought was the best interests of the nation, as a nation of laws, and with many norms of behavior built up over the years.

It was only when the nonsense of "strict constructionists" came along, wanting to overturn precedent based on some (maybe not-so) plain reading of just the Constitution, aligned with zealots on a few core policies, and were empowered by a populism brought on by a cult of personality surrounding an extremely self serving narcissist that those severe cracks in the foundation that maybe had been festering unnoticed for a long time came to light... more likely, tho, those cracks came about by a bulldozing of winner-takes-all attitude combined with ideas to reformulate the nation into something it was decidedly NOT intended to be, inverting many of the values existed from the start and have been improved over the two and a half centuries. Against that bad-faith, min-max-gaming-the-system beyond its intended, reasonable design, it's going to take patient, persistent, combined efforts by all parties not interested in what effectively becomes a violent overthrow of the current government and societal systems, to repair, shore, up, rebuild and even redesign and expand that foundation where appropriate.

We have the tools. We have the people. Let's get it done.

Thanks for sharing your views. I agree with many of things you express. Not so much about the God part, but I respect people and their religious beliefs if they are respectful of my lack of them. I do consider myself to be a science-druid which sort of ties everything together for me like I imagine it does with people who believe in God - just without the supernatural part. Like Alan Watts through a tree metaphor.
