IDF says Beirut strike targeted Hezbollah’s main headquarters
[www.timesofisrael.com]

IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari says the Israeli Air Force struck Hezbollah’s main headquarters in the Lebanese capital of Beirut a short while ago.

Hagari says the center was built underneath civilian buildings in the Dahiyeh suburb, a known Hezbollah stronghold in Beirut.

The IDF spokesman does not mention whether Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah was a target or was believed to be present at the site.

He says there are no changes to guidelines for Israeli civilians at this time.

Footage published by Lebanese media shows the massive strikes.

---------------------
Hizbollah has retained unaltered in content
since 1985 is its view of the State of Israel. Israel was the organization’s
primary enemy and its raison d’être since its foundation in the early
1980s, and it is identified with the West’s attempts to take over the Muslim
world. Capitalizing on traditional Shia themes such as martyrdom and
oppression, Hizbollah defines its struggle against Israel in existential-
defensive terms: “Israel represents an eternal threat to Lebanon. The
role of the resistance is a national necessity as long as Israeli threats and
ambitions to seize our lands and water continue.”

-
Hizbollah’s prime organizational duty to this day remains
“resistance.”

The group continues in its “absolute refusal to [accept] the very
principle of the choice of settlement with the
Zionist entity, which is based on recognizing the
legitimacy and existence of this entity and giving
up to it the lands it usurped from Arab and Islamic Palestine.”

When will Iran decide to bypass the inept middlemen they keep sending to do their dirty work and resume their own Scud barrage? Thoughts and prayers on the upcoming disaster. USA might want to move another Carrier Strike Force over there now to avoid the Xmas rush.

The important question is whether this will accomplish any goals for Israel.

Even though it will certainly cripple Hezbollah, will it have a longer-term, more significant effect?

(I don't know...nobody calls me on this stuff)

Tehran is checking the status of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, a senior Iranian security official tells Reuters.

A source close to Hezbollah is quoted by AFP as saying that Nasrallah is “fine.”

IDF says it’ll soon strike underground Hezbollah sites in Beirut, tells citizens to swiftly flee

IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari says the military will soon strike underground Hezbollah sites in the Dahiyeh suburb of Beirut, and therefore warned civilians in the area to evacuate immediately.

“In the coming hours we are going to strike strategic capability that Hezbollah placed underground, under three buildings in the heart of the Dahiyeh,” he says

“Over the years, Hezbollah built and developed an array of coast-to-sea [missiles], that originate in Iran,” Hagari says, noting the 2006 attack on the INS Hanit, killing four sailors. “Nasrallah himself threatened Israel’s vital and strategic facilities at sea and near the coast.”

“We will now reveal how [Hezbollah] places strategic weapons under civilian buildings in the heart of the Dahiyeh,” he continues.

“These missiles are a real threat to world shipping lanes and strategic facilities of the State of Israel. In a short while, we will attack the weapons under the buildings. The intensity of the explosion of the weapons under the buildings, will lead to damage to the buildings and could lead to their collapse,” Hagari adds.

The IDF issued evacuation warnings to three buildings and their surroundings a short while ago.

There are no weapons where Israel is bombing, Hezbollah claim

Hezbollah have denied that any weapons or arms depots are located in buildings that were hit in an Israeli strike on Beirut suburbs, according to a statement released by the group.

Where Israel says it will strike next

An IDF spokesman has said Israel intends to strike three areas in southern Beirut:

Al-Laylaki neighbourhood, Munir Shadid building and neighbouring buildings
Al-Hadath neighbourhood, a sheet building and adjacent buildings
Al-Hadath district, Al-Salam complex building and adjacent buildings

The spokesman told residents of these areas: “You are located near Hezbollah interests and for your safety and the safety of your loved ones, you are obliged to evacuate the buildings immediately and move away from them at a distance of no less than 500 metres.”

You know, if Hezbollah had the capacity to blow up buildings in Tel Aviv (a city much smaller than the capital of Lebanon), and did so because they said there were weapons there, killing whoever happened to be in those buildings and shrugging it off as simple collateral damage or blaming it on “human shields”, I think the world would be rightly horrified. Ditto if they targeted whatever they perceived as the main headquarters of the IDF.

Actually, they kinda do have that capacity, albeit limited:

Quote

Hezbollah possesses about 100 long-range missiles. They include the Iranian-made Fajr-3 and Fajr-5, the latter with a range of 75 km (47 mi), enabling it to strike the Israeli port of Haifa, and the Zelzal-1, with an estimated 150 km (93 mi) range, which can reach Tel Aviv.

But apart from a single missile recently, they have not used them against Tel Aviv.

I believe Osama bin Laden once said his plot of 9/11 was inspired by shelling of Lebanese apartment buildings in 1982.

I’m sure reasonable people will object, saying I’m equating Hezbollah and the IDF; I personally find Hezbollah despicable. But the current wanton violence which disregards the concerns of the world is also despicable.

Violence breeds violence. I hope that there is an answer; I very much doubt Israel’s current course is the answer.

And I fear what seeds of future grief are being planted.

when's the last time Hezbollah warned people to evacuate before destroying buildings containing armaments?

You keep on getting it wrong.

Military experts are now saying the “precision” strikes were done with 2000 pound bombs, flattening a number of buildings in a residential area of Lebanon’s capital.

These bombs are what Biden specifically proscribed against using in urban areas of Gaza because of their indiscriminate destruction.

Another precision poke-in-the-eye from Netanyahu.

Biden doesn't run Israel. Apparently, people think he does.
