I know they can be used past the expiration date, but this lot was produced on 23-01-10 (Jan 10, 2023) and expires on 24-01-09 (Jan 9, 2024). So it is 9 months past the expiration date. I know you can used it maybe 6-9 month, but at this point the test result is in doubt anyway. if I feel sick, I would probably go get a fresh test from the store, not trust these freebies.

It seems to me like they had a surplus of these and decided to give them away rather than send to landfill.

Same with mine. However, there should have been a notice in the package to go online and check the expiration date -- when I did it for mine, the expiration date moved to 2025.

Nonetheless, however, you think they could send ones with the correct dates to start with...

I imagine this is a pretty massive undertaking.

Whether these were manufactured with a 'wrong' date or discovered to be viable after what was an extended date, I don't care.

If they work, then better they ship with a card then end up in landfill.

Reading is fundamental indeed. I ordered in a hurry at work between 2 meetings a few weeks ago, I don't recall what I read or didn't read a few weeks ago. Also I missed the card, may I took the boxes out and didn't notice the card in the envelope.

My comment was basically not that they are past their original expiration date, but that they are way past the expiration date, like 3/4 of the way into the extension, or 7/4 past the original lifetime LOL

Are you really suggesting that they should repackage all the tests with adjusted expiration dates? Do you really want tax money spent on that?

Expiration dates are estimates based on judgment based on previous data. When these tests were manufactured, their projected expiration dates were based on other types of tests thought to be comparable.

Over time, sample tests have been evaluated and many have been found to be reliable beyond the original estimated expiration date. It is possible that some will be extended even further as time moves on.

This is how it goes when you are building the plane while already flying it.

This notification of extended expiration dates on the ordering site has been going on for at least a year, maybe more.

Mostly the tests have a standard one year expiration date, same as prescription medicine.

So if you went to a large family gathering and later one entire family came down with Covid, you would not test even if you or a loved one had symptoms, especially if you were going to church the next day?

If I or anyone id been around had symptoms, id stay home, covid or not. There are so many people with covid, I don’t know how anyone can afford to be super cautious though, and I don’t know that the good outweighs the bad, unless it’s super obvious.

If the lab that made them is compliant, then everything should be alright, I guess. Because there are a lot of labs that don't do it, as shown in this article.
