while not new news, I'm not sure I like that they can get away with using an attorneys phone to listen to his/her client.

The Taoist Zhuangzi said, "Good order results spontaneously when things are let alone".
The sociologist, and historian, Adam Ferguson described the phenomenon of spontaneous order in society as the "result of human action, but not the execution of any human design".

You should assume that EVERY telephone conversation of ANY kind is at least logged if not actually recorded.

What a horrible, horrible thing to say about America.

"This is not my beautiful house!"

if you would be a criminal, the cell phone is the worst thing you could carry. The day they found OJ Simpson's truck made that blazingly obvious.

… since 9/11/2001, any personal freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights have been essentially suspended.

Now get back to buyin' huge vehicles and iPhones, heah?

that reminds me, watching THE GOOD SHEPHERD right now (in sections since it's long), and those freedoms appear to have been curtailed long before 9/11.

Don't need the FBI, I can listen to your iPhone banter right now.

Nope, sorry.
Despite the paranoia, they could monitor, but couldn't use it against you.
Big difference after 9/11, they don't need proof, just a hunch.
And no matter how they got the info, they can use it against you.

BGnR is right … telcos have been in bed with the FBI and their friends for a long, long time, but making the contents of wiretapping admissible in a courtroom was non-trivial, and in most cases impossible.

Not so in the Brave New World.

Still, if you can't do the time …

Why do people think that the iPhone is some new subspace communications device that is unlike any other cell phone?

Because it's from Apple. Now stop asking questions and drink some more Kool-Aid.

OK, I give up.
WTF is a "court room?"

American Heritage Dictionary

court·room
n. A room in which the proceedings of a court are held.

I thought that seemed obvious, but perhaps it's an ESL kind of thing.

P.S. My apologies for the post, but I'm feeling a bit snarky at the moment. I just hit a bit of "unpleasantness" with the line trimmer and I have to go take a shower...

I know the definition of courtroom.
I was feigning ignorance of the term as the current powers in the Executive Branch seem to no longer have use for such quaint things as "courtrooms" and "due process."
Sorry you missed the joke.

Because it has the ability to crash IT networks at colleges and universities throughout the world. Maybe the military/industrial complex might think twice about using them. Maybe we shouldn't tell them?

Yes. They can.

[forums.macresource.com]

Edit: ...And of course, they can also listen with embedded bugs, with directional mic's, with taps at the cells, with scanners, with their access to the switches at the phone company and with their taps on comm satellites.
