Kids are great. People vary so I would not venture to paint this topic with a broad stroke. Some people make lousy parents to ONE person. Other people can over their lives raise over a dozen fantastic people. God said to go forth and multiply. And some do that well. Those that don't aren't bad.

How many are too few? People that never taste the real life of being responsible for another person's life, safety, nurturing and are capable are neglecting themselves of something WONDERFUL. There is no other feeling in the world than sharing this life and loving your offspring. All other things can fall by the wayside, but family means everything.

It's only irresponsible or immoral if you raise a legion of crappy illiterate kids with no social skills. If you know how to raise kids with respect and love, then by all means crank em out.

mick e has been of the opinion that lately, the wrong people have been bringing kids into the world (ex: Britney Spears) and the right people have been going childless.

Well said Mick, I couldn't agree more.

I'm proud enough of my kids to think that maybe we owe the world more than two. But we're a bit too selfish. Or maybe I've got it backwards.

If you had it backwards, you wouldn't have produced kids.

I dunno....I agree there are good parents and bad parents--but I also don't think choosing to NOT have kids means I am depriving myself of The Ultimate Experience.

My mother should not have had kids. She didn't enjoy it to the point she has alienated all three of us. I am not particularly maternal, and I think that recognizing this and NOT still trying to bring up a child because its an experience I "should" have is the more responsible route.

I don't hate kids--I adore my two neices, and my friends' babies. But that doesn't mean I should be necessarily be in charge of my own!

As a childless man who is excellent with children (or so I'm told), I get that from a lot of people. Especially my mom -- she thinks it's criminal that I never had children.
