Pilots say new U.S. stealth fighter has no equal

Bradenton Herald, by Melissa Nelson

The Air Force's new F-22A Raptor is such a dominant fighter jet that in mock dogfights its
pilots typically take on six F-15 Eagles at once. Despite the favorable odds, the F-15s, still one
of the world's most capable fighters, are no contest for the fastest radar-evading stealth jet ever
built.

The world's superpower, becoming even more powerful.

Let's build thousands of them.

These new jets are perfect for shooting down suitcase nukes in Manhattan and dog-fighting with crude bombs buried along the road from the airport to Baghdad.

Pretty exciting stuff. I bet the F-15 pilots are fighting to get in line.

In 2005, the F15 is at best, a 2nd Rate Fighter. The Sukoi Fighters consistently "shot down" F15's in Indian-USA Air Force Games...

Actually had a piece on them on the news the other night and this point was brought up.

Answer from squad commander was they are not meant for internal war on terror but for issues that "may" come up in the future with China and North Korea.

I have a feeling that it may get even more nasty out there and that we ain't seen nothin' yet.

At $350 million dollars each, they'd better get good gas milage!

$20 billion spent on the 56 now in service and lots more on order adding up to $43 Billion more over the next 5 years.

All to dogfight with those darned Soviets. When will this cold war end?!!

That Indian dogfight exercise was with F-15C's, not E (or any variant through K), and it was using NO FAC (forward air controller via AWACS) to vector planes in.

It was an interesting exercise, but without much value in the real world of the F-15E and modifications beyond until the F-22As come online en masse.

As for fighting the Suitcase Nuke - they are air defense fighters, not StepVans.

--------
In 1967, Langley disseminated the results of in-house studies of a fighter configuration known as LFAX-8, which incorporated several features that would later be evident in the F-15 aircraft.

An industry-wide competition ended on December 23, 1969 when McDonnell Douglas was awarded the contract for the F-15.

21 May 2002
South Korea announced its agreement with the Boeing Company to purchase 40 F-15K fighters for $4.228 billion US.

.
.

Yep. 2nd rate but still with a 95-0 scorecard--and despite below, still an impressive record for something that hit the contract stage 37 years ago.

Simulations conducted by British Aerospace and the British Defense Research Agency compared the effectiveness of the F-15C, Rafale, EF-2000, and F-22 against the Russian Su-35 armed with active radar missiles similar to the AIM-120 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM). The Rafale achieved a 1:1 kill ratio (1 Su-35 destroyed for each Rafale lost). The EF-2000 kill ratio was 4.5:1 while the F-22 achieved a ratio of 10:1. In stark contrast was the F-15C, losing 1.3 Eagles for each Su-35 destroyed.

The Boeing F-15C Eagle is the most capable and lethal air-to-air fighter currently in service worldwide. The F-15C has an air combat victory ratio of 95-0 making it one of the most effective air superiority aircraft ever developed.

F-15C's, D's and E's were deployed to the Persian Gulf in 1991 in support of Operation Desert Storm where they proved their superior combat capability with a confirmed 26:0 kill ratio.

I'd say they did their job rather well, overall.

I was at Edwards when they were playing with the thrust vectoring scheme. I got a feeling this may be one of the last human piloted fighters we're ever gonna see. You have to have a rectum of steel to take G's that this beast can put out.

US Pilots haven't had to face "parity" since Korea when the MiG 15 surprised everyone... A faster, nimbler fighter, but pilot training counts. A MiG 15 was shot down by an F4U Corsai (prop fighter) and a P51 Mustang! The MiG also lost its first Jet to Jet fight against a much slower F80 Shooting Star! Since then, the "worst" fighter was the F4 Phantom, which was an ugly "all Missile" fighter. It proved that Gun's still matter, as it was getting shot down by Prev Generation MiG 17's, 19's and MiG 21s. At the same time, the F8 Crusader and F104 Phantom, both designed from the Start as "gun fighters" were having a great time. The F4 didn't get a winning record until it was retrofitted w/a gun. American fighters have always been a generation ahead of the world, until a "generation" became more than 15-20 years, time enough for allies and adversaries to copy/catch up.

It's a good thing India is on our side, they're buying up the Russian Air Force and Navy with all that Call Center money we're sending!

They weren't on our side (again) until they recently dumped their PM.

The last comment out of a Defense Minister was "It is clear that if you go to war with the United States, you must bring a nuclear bomb to the party."

the SU-37 is one bitchin plane, and the Russians have their own stealth fighter as well.

We can't afford to get arrogant. That's when people die.

How much more arrogant could we possibly get, people are dying and have been for some time. 2169 at last count.

Well said, RgrF. And that is just ours and doesn't include the value of lives affected by injuries and those deaths, including families, friends, etc. of the dead and of the wounded.

You can't treat other people like their lives are worth less than ours. Funny thing about life, the way you treat others is so often the way you end up being treated.

Those who live by the sword are destined to die by the sword, and those who do not study history repeat it. Violence begets violence. There is no end to it, all it does is escalate, until everyone is dead.

Crazy stuff. interesting how these 'advanced' planes are looking more and more like UFO's. Are they one and the same, or are they attempting to mimick the designs of actual UFO's?
