Time to buy a new computer

I use the G4 iBook far more than the Sawtooth.

The upgraded Sawtooth only gets used for scanning & Photoshop work & keeping up with my music library but it's a 7 year old computer that I've had for over 6 years & I'm itching to get a new one. This thing has an 800MHz processor card, 1.25Gb RAM, internal Superdrive & Zip Drive, USB 2, a nice video card, 40Gb hard drive & 80Gb drive partitioned into 2 drives. Common wisdom indicates I should return it to its stock state before selling it & then sell the upgrades separately, right?

Do I get a Mac Mini, iMac, or spring for a refurb MacBook? A heat producing G5 is out of the question. I've been checking the Apple Store regularly but still can't make up my mind. I think I'll venture out to CompUSA this evening & see if there are any great bargains to be found there.

I sure love my 20" Intel iMac; I don't have a clue about its capacitors. smiling smiley

Not much to strip out and sell separately. The hard drives are worthless as is the Zip drive and even the latest Superdrive (-111D) is under $40 new. The RAM and CPU card are all you've got to differentiate your Sawtooth from the rest of the $100 boxes. It might be better just to put it in the closet as a spare than to give it away on eBay or the LEM list.

You can have my Sawtooth when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.

Sawtooth rocks.

I've got two Sawtooths (Sawteeth?) in the house running right now. My wife is using my old G4/450 Sawtooth and my daughter is using a G4/400 I picked up on eBay for less than $100 including shipping. They are amazing computers, build quality-wise. My wife's is 6 1/2 years old and hasn't missed a beat.

Throw in a better video card from eBay and a faster processor and you have a very capable computer.

I would much rather have an upgraded Sawtooth than a G4 Mac Mini.

Put the Sawtooth to work as a server; that's what I did with my G4 550 B & W. It's rock solid, and I love having it available for back up for the other two computers and as a print server.

I think people deserve a new computer every few years just "for because."

Perhaps you should keep the Sawtooth, sell the iBook, and replace the iBook with a MacBook refurb. Also consider getting a new MacBook from Amazon for about the same price AR with no tax and no shipping. Just a thought. grinning smiley

My sentiments exactly.

Although, I think my wife prefers a better reason than, "just because."

So I come up with some BS that sounds, well, like BS.

Look, I have the same spouse year after year; decade after decade. That doesn't mean I have to have the same commitment with my computer.

I thing rgG is on to something here. Ditch the iBook, which still has some value, and upgrade to a MacBook.
