I think that all of our posts in this thread could be rearranged to rewrite Cringley's whole article.

Mint still wants to know how you and the wifey worked out the white carpet/red wine thing.

Cringley's articles make for good reading but how many times has he hit the nail on the head?

I am hoping boot camp leads to better things. I am hoping Steve has a few more tricks up his sleeve.

"Apple's software leadership will fall back on Bud Tribble, who first came to Apple more than 25 years ago when Jef Raskin hired him as the first-ever Macintosh programmer, even before Andy Hertzfeld."

I met Kareen Tribble many years ago; we were on Hawaii, and she was selling timeshares or something.

I recognized the name right away and asked if she was related, and she said she was Bud's sister.

Let's just say that I spent most of my day off yesterday cleaning the house, stripping paint off of closet doors, cutting grass, fixing some plumbing, writing a check to Uncle Sam, starting up my motorcycle for the first time this year, taking the '66 Corvair out of winter storage and then taking her out to dinner and a movie. (Thank You for Smoking is a pretty good movie by the way.) It is currently Asparagus season in Eastern Washington, so we're enjoying good Asparagus with every meal.

As for the Red-wine/White Carpet incident, you can't even see the stain. I had to buy her some clothes, rub her feet, buy her dinner 3 times this week, but I think that I'm finally allowed to sleep in the house.

I love Cringley's articles because they are so far out there, but they are usually at least plausible. It *could* happen, but it probably won't happen the way that he sees it.

Good work on the wine thing. Never bring your minor mishap again or you will be buying more expensive dinners and being dragged to chix flix.

ummmmm......

......I have to ask this: what's her name?

Christine?

I *assume* it was a drive-in movie, so she could enjoy it as well...

The Corvair is definitely a he. I guess my sentence structure left the pronoun a bit ambiguous. The "she" referred to my wife. The Corvair is a bad-a$$ guy though, definitely.

I think the most intriguing point Cringely makes is that Windows will work far, far better on a mac than on a Windows machine.

I think what you all fail to realize is that VirtualPC is available for Windows, and has been for quite some time.

And, therefore, all of Cringley's arguments for why Windows will work better on a Mac--since his argument is really about virtual environments and not Macintosh per se--are valid for running VPC under Windows.

VPC for windows suck in comparison to all the other ways to get another windows OS going...ON windows.

Gartner group advises against it. My job at work is to come up with the best of many permutations of options for virtualization for global computing.

The point is, Cringely's arguments for virtualization aren't limited to Macintosh.
