VTSAX!! Buy the whole market! (Boring, I know)by bhaveshp - Tips and Deals
This looks to be a Big Sur specific bug affecting Intel & M1 Macs that can’t be prevented by disabling the screensaver. I previously mentioned hitting this bug here: The new thread mentioned in the OP has some workarounds to recover & it looks to be fixed in the new 11.2 Beta.by bhaveshp - Tips and Deals
QuotemattkimeSeems like they should release a Raspberry Pi with an SSD interface on it. Nah, of course you need a $45 Pi case with internal M.2 SSD supportby bhaveshp - Tips and Deals
Quotedeckeda QuotergG Quotebhaveshp Quotedeckeda Shoulda said for insight, you were prepared to drop that extra $100 for a teacher, until he misspelled “incite.” Nice.. wish I caught that! Might have been the spell checker or autofill. I know that if I had to use iOS to compose anything for work I’d be fired. His emails did say “Sent from my iPad”, so I’ll let him off the hooby bhaveshp - Tips and Deals

I've had good success using pirateship.com for discounted USPS priority shipping. Guess it's probably the same as eBay shipping, but without having an eBay sale.by bhaveshp - Tips and Deals
So I've been trying to sell my son's loaded iMac (he switched to an M1 MBA) for the past week on Craigslist. Got the following hilarious email reply this morning. Had to read it twice to make sure it wasn't a bot, but the specifics mentioned couldn't have been from a bot. Anyway, he came by & bought it. Great funny guy.. substitute school teacher..wants it for video editing & photograpby bhaveshp - Tips and Deals
I had never gotten iPhone insurance and had never broken an iPhone since the first model came out. Of course this year, I dropped my 3 week old iPhone 12 Pro and cracked the screen. Thankfully, Apple lets you add-on AppleCare for up to a month after purchase. So I got it and paid the $29 fee for glass replacement. It was bound to happen sometime.by bhaveshp - Tips and Deals
We charged our Model 3 at 110v for the first year and we got ~4.5 miles per hour, so about 40-50!miles overnight. This was plenty as long as we remembered to charge every night. We got a 220v line later as a convenience, especially for long weekend drives.by bhaveshp - Tips and Deals
I used AAA eneloop batteries in my panasonic handsets for several years after the original NiMH Panasonic batteries went dead. They worked perfectly and even recharged fine in the handsets base. Give that a shot if keeping the current setup is an option.by bhaveshp - Tips and Deals
The big problem I’ve seen is that Raspberry PI OS does not have a good OS upgrade option between major releases. Sure it’s technically possible (apt upgrade etc) each round, but they typically recommend to reflash the SD card with the major release. Linux is great for specific purposes or for tinkering, but as a daily driver it needs too much effort.by bhaveshp - Tips and Deals
No issues printing to my ancient Brother laser printer. Didn’t install anything, just chose the generic PCL printer during printer setup. It discovered the printer was duplex as well.by bhaveshp - Tips and Deals
Also replying on my base M1 MBA which I just upgraded to Big Sur 11.1 (feels weird not writing OS X). It has been fantastic for the most part. I've had a number of lock ups on the screensaver which I hope 11.1 has addressed. This thread seems to indicate this also happens on Intel machines on Big Sur, so doesn't seem to be a HW issue:by bhaveshp - Tips and Deals
Awesome! It’s fun to try out the Windows themes as well.by bhaveshp - Tips and Deals
So in addition to the skins, they include retropie and dosbox to emulate old x86 games. For Netflix they also bundle in some media codec which allows protected media playback. All these aren’t in the default OS.by bhaveshp - Tips and Deals
Quotesekker I read about this - looks cool. Thanks for posting, does it run well? Yes, it runs fine. It is actually just RaspberryPi OS with a bundle of added skins & packages. I've been running it since June or so, though my use is mostly headless (PiVPN & Homebridge). They added an easier update mechanism for their added packages in versions subsequent to my install, though the basby bhaveshp - Tips and Deals
I've booted my RPi4 on this Cute skin but not quite the real deal. This team has put together a pretty sweet distro with some included emulators and skins. However I was able to run Sheepshaver / MacOS9 on the RPi4, again for fun only.by bhaveshp - Tips and Deals
My son picked up a 16/ 1 TB MBA last week at the Palo Alto Apple store. Locally, the Apple Store app shows no M1 models as available, but they said when they have low inventory, they won't show it in the app. We happened to go to the store for another reason (with appointment) and asked and got lucky. They also had base MBAs and MBPs in.by bhaveshp - Tips and Deals
Thanks! Buddy & I were just wondering why Intel & AMD are so far behind. The CPU game has been disrupted.by bhaveshp - Tips and Deals
Quotesekker This is a related product from the same vendor worth considering and sorts out USB speeds. I'm *really* tempted to get this dock @ $109 to test it out with the two 4k displays already in the house. (I'd borrow my son's display as he's at his own apt for the next 3 weeks). The one aspect giving me pause is that both HDMI ports from the dock appear to be DisplayLink ports. It wby bhaveshp - Tips and Deals
Quotesekker If you go dual displays, you will need a DualLink adapter/hub. Ah right.. IIRC, you have a hub with Displaylink? Any issues or working well?by bhaveshp - Tips and Deals
My 2017 i7 iMac with a fusion drive has been fairly poky with a large 90k photos, 800 GB photo library. It lags when deleting photos, moving them into albums, and editing as well. The fans regularly spin up and get loud. I thought the bottle neck might be the fusion drive, so I got a Samsung X5 Thunderbolt SSD and decided to start fresh with a clean install of Big Sur on the SSD. QuoteRolando Does it do PPC emulation as well for Mac OS X.1-X.6? Yep. Haven’t tried it myself on M1, but plenty of older links etc showing it done on Intel. Here’s a YouTube search on it:by bhaveshp - Tips and Deals

Awesome. Looks like even 6 displays works: You need a hub that supports Displaylink. Some good links in the following reddit link:by bhaveshp - Tips and Deals

Also digitized all our VHS, Hi8, miniDv tapes into 320 mp4 clips all imported into iTunes. Used the el gato video digitizer with did all the compression from VHS & Hi8 analog sources. Thankfully I still had an old White MacBook with a firewire port to import in directly from the miniDV camcorder. Last week we showed the in-laws a video from 1989 in their older house.
