This looks to be a Big Sur specific bug affecting Intel & M1 Macs that can’t be prevented by disabling the screensaver. I previously mentioned hitting this bug here: The new thread mentioned in the OP has some workarounds to recover & it looks to be fixed in the new 11.2 Beta.

I had never gotten iPhone insurance and had never broken an iPhone since the first model came out. Of course this year, I dropped my 3 week old iPhone 12 Pro and cracked the screen. Thankfully, Apple lets you add-on AppleCare for up to a month after purchase. So I got it and paid the $29 fee for glass replacement. It was bound to happen sometime.

We charged our Model 3 at 110v for the first year and we got ~4.5 miles per hour, so about 40-50!miles overnight. This was plenty as long as we remembered to charge every night. We got a 220v line later as a convenience, especially for long weekend drives.

I used AAA eneloop batteries in my panasonic handsets for several years after the original NiMH Panasonic batteries went dead. They worked perfectly and even recharged fine in the handsets base. Give that a shot if keeping the current setup is an option.

The big problem I’ve seen is that Raspberry PI OS does not have a good OS upgrade option between major releases. Sure it’s technically possible (apt upgrade etc) each round, but they typically recommend to reflash the SD card with the major release. Linux is great for specific purposes or for tinkering, but as a daily driver it needs too much effort.

No issues printing to my ancient Brother laser printer. Didn’t install anything, just chose the generic PCL printer during printer setup. It discovered the printer was duplex as well.

Also replying on my base M1 MBA which I just upgraded to Big Sur 11.1 (feels weird not writing OS X). It has been fantastic for the most part. I've had a number of lock ups on the screensaver which I hope 11.1 has addressed. This thread seems to indicate this also happens on Intel machines on Big Sur, so doesn't seem to be a HW issue:

So in addition to the skins, they include retropie and dosbox to emulate old x86 games. For Netflix they also bundle in some media codec which allows protected media playback. All these aren’t in the default OS.

I've booted my RPi4 on this Cute skin but not quite the real deal. This team has put together a pretty sweet distro with some included emulators and skins. However I was able to run Sheepshaver / MacOS9 on the RPi4, again for fun only.

My son picked up a 16/ 1 TB MBA last week at the Palo Alto Apple store. Locally, the Apple Store app shows no M1 models as available, but they said when they have low inventory, they won't show it in the app. We happened to go to the store for another reason (with appointment) and asked and got lucky. They also had base MBAs and MBPs in.

My 2017 i7 iMac with a fusion drive has been fairly poky with a large 90k photos, 800 GB photo library. It lags when deleting photos, moving them into albums, and editing as well.
