I'm up the creek using a "spaghetti paddle"! Help! I'm doing a late, late, late, late, etc. income tax filing for year 2020 using TurboTax Premier. Things were going fairly well until I got to the "Investments" portion of the return. Trouble is my brokerage firm (E*Trade) no longer has the "formatted" version of all my trades that would be downloaded on the retby GeneH - Tips and Deals
Chopper, try viewing "The Last Picture Show"! A great movie that sold me on his directorial talents!by GeneH - Tips and Deals
Favorites: O Holy Night, The First Noel, O Come All Ye Faithful, O Little Town of Bethlehem.... Gosh, but these and so many others recall beautiful memories and beautiful people, of whom many of the latter are now gone. Any of the above carols are to me just so soul-stirring, uplifting, and hauntingly beautiful. I never get tired of hearing them every year, over and over again. And stiby GeneH - Tips and Deals
What a beautiful tribute and way to honor these men! They no longer are just the 1177 "casualties" of some long ago horrific battle in a remote region of the world. Now they have names and faces with lives and histories and families they can be remembered by. They are you and I and our kin and neighbors and friends. Most of all, they are the real cost of war! Of every war! And &by GeneH - Tips and Deals
I should have added that my above suggestion would work for you ONLY if you're located in a coastal city and most especially the West Coast! Shipping a "small ton" of magazines from Iowa or Tennessee or wherever to a coastal shipping address would just not be "financially practical".by GeneH - Tips and Deals
Where do you live Dennis? About 12 years ago, I moved to AZ from CA and was looking to get rid of about 25 years of NGs and 15-20 years of two astronomy magazines, Sky&Telescope and Astronomy. I also had a number of math and science textbooks left over from my college days. I don't remember how I found out about this solution (Nat Geo?), but the Chinese government would ship them freeby GeneH - Tips and Deals
Sorry to hear of your loss - and the human race's - Ombligo! God, what a woman! Sounds like she was without question, YOUR greatest blessing! The passing of one's mother is for many of us a shattering moment, the loss of someone who is truly irreplaceable. I'm sure those of us who have experienced the same can only echo your sentiments and your sense of loss - and acknowledge your blessing.by GeneH - Tips and Deals
Glad to see so many (and I'm sure we are "LEGION") who caught that same spelling "error". And obvious grammatical errors as well. No, I don't have any handy as illustrations but they are "out there"! Somehow they seem to get past their "proof readers" too! Will have to save those for a future Tips and Deals moment.by GeneH - Tips and Deals
Bezosvill! LOL!!!!! Good one there, MrNoBody!by GeneH - Tips and Deals
Nice wildlife shots in flat lighting unaided by any support, like a tripod or a monopod. Great shots in fact! Hell, you can see individual hairs on the subject! You've got steady hands! Price-cube, you're probably the reigning "photography buff" and most savvy head here! What do you say?by GeneH - Tips and Deals
Nice wildlife shots in flat lighting unaided by any support, like a tripod or a monopod. Great shots in fact! Hell, you can see individual hairs on the subject! You've got steady hands! Bright sunlight might give you even finer detail even with a higher shutter speed but with somewhat de-saturated colors??? You've done well! But then, my photo savvy is years and years old! Sorry to hear of your loss, RJ. The loss of a beloved parent is one of the most shattering moments in life, and especially when as a family you have never suffered a similar loss. Old grandparents', old family friends' deaths are almost expected, but parents often seem invincible and seem like they can live forever. Alas, none of us does! The very love and memory of her that you hold onlyby GeneH - Tips and Deals
Fritz, try using along with the vinegar and Dawn, a flat, circular brush and a battery-operated drill on your shower doors and floors. This will make that chore a lot less tedious and will spare your arms. Worked for me. And I'm always a bit lax in getting this chore done. Few clues about windshield cleaners, especially the inside. Problem is, my aged body just can't bend that way any moreby GeneH - Tips and Deals
Congratulations SDGuy! Enjoy your new role in life - retiree! I entered the "ranks" of the retired over 25 years ago and have only looked back with a sense of relief and thanksgiving! You sound like a conscientious individual if you're worried about the "left behinds" and their bigger burden of responsibilities now that you've moved on. You'll probably worryby GeneH - Tips and Deals
QuoteN-OS X-tasy! Quotechopper As time goes on I am more and more impressed that the Beatles did all that in like 10 years. Same here. Not only the musical growth they experienced in that time period, but the tremendous impact they had on the world of popular music. And not just in the world of popular music. In an era of competition between Eastern and Western ideologies - political, scienby GeneH - Tips and Deals
I don't follow the Pats that closely but I saw one of their games (last year?) with Newt at QB. During the telecast, they showed Cam's TD/INT stats. 5/10!!!! That's when I figured that Cam wasn't long for NE. That's not the kind of performance Belichick will tolerate from a veteran signal caller. Bill is a demanding taskmaster.by GeneH - Tips and Deals
Bread and butter pickles carry the day by me! Dills? EH! no, too "overpowering" for a sammich! Hey, who's talking about hot dogs WITHOUT DICED ONIONS? Damn, that is almost sacriligeous!by GeneH - Tips and Deals
Always enjoyed their music and videos though I wasn't all that into rock when I was younger. Saw a column some time back that said we can expect many, many more old rockers to pass away in the next few years as they're all getting into that age range, that 'time of life" where death is the "newest and final gig". As it'll all be ours as well eventually. R.I.P. Dusty Hill.by GeneH - Tips and Deals

Newton's post reminded me of why I could never eat any of my mother's beet borscht! Ughhh! Just the color was enough to turn me off, much less eat the stuff. NEVER EVEN TASTED IT! Ergo, I never experienced the "after effects". I also DON'T look forward to peeing after eating asparagus! Have the same reaction to that veggie as the other posters.by GeneH - Tips and Deals
Whoops, the following day, I turned on my iPhone and suddenly stock prices are current and BEING UPDATED IN REAL TIME! Don't know what I did but whatever it was it worked.! Thanks Hal and Sarcany for your help.by GeneH - Tips and Deals
I've done all of that. My iPhone OS is always updated when Apple makes a new version available. Funny thing, the big stock screen doesn't update, but checking on an individual stock shows the correct up-to-the-minute price and chart action. I don't have the 15 minute delay version, probably because of the number of trades I've transacted over the years. I went through that with a E*T rep.by GeneH - Tips and Deals
Apparently I am using the Stocks app. The picture displayed on my iPhone is the same as shown on the Stocks app photo. Still isn't updating prices though. What else do I have to do to make it display real-time prices?by GeneH - Tips and Deals
I went through the procedure with E*Trade and that hasn't restored the quotes in real-time. In fact, it's showing me yesterday's closing quotes. Maybe I am using the Stocks app built into the iOS. What do I do now?by GeneH - Tips and Deals
I believe I'm using E*Trade's app. Don't know how to use it to get the stock listings to update in real time. I guess I should call E+Trade first to getteir take on this problem.by GeneH - Tips and Deals
Somehow, my stock lisings "disappeared" when I was having troubles with my iPhone 8+. I've since restored them. Since re-entering the listing of some 30-40 issues though, I find they're not being updated. I trade with E*Trade and have their "software" installed, I think. It's been a long time since I got this all set up and don't remember what else has to be done. Wby GeneH - Tips and Deals
Thanks to all who responded to my "tale of woe". Hope that it warns others that the old adage of "never, never, give your vital online info to anyone else" still holds water. I'm including more details of this whole story even though it highlights MY OWN INCREDIBLY GROSS STUPIDITY! Thank you, Sarcany for your response to my story and inquiry. On June 11th, I was the victim in a "scam" involving fraudulent unauthorized purchases via my PayPal account, and because it was connected to my bank account, later almost several 1000s in unsuccessful fraudulent cash transfers to a Dutch bank. It started with an email asking whether I had authorized the purchase of $947worth of software!!!! HUH? Phone number supplied but no waby GeneH - Tips and Deals
