No good news. 2 days of wasted time on phone with Apple, and in-store. Probably close to 6 hours total. 6 month old iMac. Running PS, AI, ID, etc... very large files, multiple files open all day long. Heard the fans running a couple of weeks ago for the first time. As a matter of fact, I don't think I've ever heard an iMacs' fans run... Yesterday tried to resize a relatively small size fileby CW2V - Tips and Deals

Asbestos in the siding, roof. Water / drip marks on the roof support beams. Bowing in the roof. Chimney / other brick and mortar, look for cracking and spaling that can get worse once water gets in. Modern circuit breaker panel. Outlets that have proper wiring / true ground (houses may have newer outlets but older wiring without correct grounding). edit: actually the other case was upgraded to the 5,1 firmware. The eBay moneypit has not been altered. I've altered the firmware and it wont go back to previous version as it was one of the "refurbs" from back then, where it had a newer "unofficial" version of the firmware before 5,1. It can't be reflashed back. I haven't used eBay for years. How is the return policy? Bby CW2V - Tips and Deals

Follow up to previous thread I overlooked the RAM slots that were not working as I had assumed I had (4) 8GB Chips and (4) 1GB chips installed for a total of 36GB. I actually had (4) 2GB chips with two of them not working in slots 3 and 4. Since I was mainly focused on getting the damaged case machine swapped into the better case, I think I assumed I had a bad chip or two. This ugly eBay tby CW2V - Tips and Deals

I got it all figured out. Running Mavericks, after updating everything, still no live link to the Apple firmware. Mavericks was the only version I still have "purchased". No original install disks newer than Snow Leopard. So I finally downloaded the Firmware from another computer running Sierra and copied it to the desktop of the Mac Pro. The firmware hack tool was able to finally findby CW2V - Tips and Deals

ehhhhhhhghggghghh.... quad core only has 10.6. 12-core has Sierra. Can't boot from the Sierra drive. Can't run firmware hack as 10.6 is too old. Mac EFI is not showing up to download from Apple. Getting Error 5570 running EFI 2009-2010 tool. System was booting into 32 bit (Fixed that). Mavericks (which I am so happy I downloaded it years ago and it's in my purchased list - hte only good so far) -by CW2V - Tips and Deals

Forward on to firmware update. Got the "refurbished" MP41.0081.B08 firmware in the better case, meaning I cant go back once I go to 5.1, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. CW2Vby CW2V - Tips and Deals

No, iMac has just a stock HD and 16GB RAM and 1GB VRAM. The 12-core has the SSD and 32GB (soon to 64) RAM and the 2GB video card. (will also have USB 3 soon). CW2Vby CW2V - Tips and Deals
