Is there a low balance fee of some sort? If so, taking it all out can give you a negative balance if they assign the fee between your check cashing and their officially closing it. You might then get one of those relatively big charges for going negative.
I'd write a check for everything except what the low balance fee would be and then ask them to close it and send the rest.

I'm one of those who thinks a seller should leave feedback first. However, I certainly recognize the validity of a seller protecting himself. I think you are wise to make an active decision as to whether you want to deal with someone. If a seller has a buyer who has left negatives that seemed at all unreasonable, I wouldn't expect the seller to leave feedback first. But, with my 100+ positive

This is why all the rest of the suggestions really won't cut it!
I've been buying diamonds for my wife for several years as our house has gotten filled up (nice gift, takes up little room). When I first started, I recognized pretty quickly that I could see the difference

I'd do it from someone who doesn't have salespeople to support, tv and print ads to pay for, and a showroom to support. You're paying for all that.
I agree with Fritz. Also, getting recomendations on remodelers from friends/relatives makes sense. Look at their work before you hire them.

Last year I had a problem and couldn't find a phone number. I called Apple directly and was told it was only reachable by the email (apple->support->ipohoto->customer service->ordering prints, bottom of page).
Made me unhappy, but the email was answered quickly and to my satisfaction.

This is slightly off topic to the thread, but please be aware that there are reports of counterfeit USPS Money Orders in circulation. Apparently USPS counterpeople are trained to tell. I'd only cash one there, not at a bank.

Thanks for the link. I feel even better now...
I don't suppose there is any sort of foolproof authentication process; the E-Trade site says you can logon on a 1 time basis without the code generator if you call and are authenticated. Doesn't sound all that different from Fidelity.
The gold/attic model is looking better!

I've started getting nervous about online financial interactions. The little accounts don't bother me, but our core investments at Fidelity are substantial.
I know that E-Trade is using a customer-carried code generator as a second level authentification scheme. I don't see anything like that or a USB hardware token at Fidelity.
Does anybody know of other financial houses that use a h

I once won a iBook auction. Following that the communication with the seller got really wierd and I got hinky. I offered to pay listing fees + $20 to be done with it. He accepted and I paid him and left happy.
Ask her for listing plus something for your time and lost value of the money now vs. after another auction. Choose a number.

I absolutely agree that the seller should leave first (unless...).
I'm only a buyer; I keep threatening to sell stuff, but so far it's just piling up.
The whole ebay process is set up in the seller's favor. The buyer has to trust the description, send the money first, and then trust the item will come. The seller doesn't send it until he has money in hand.
The only aspect that allows t

Is there mention of it/link to it on the OWC site? When I first heard about it weeks ago, I searched the OWC site and didn't find it. I eventually got an invitation with link.
I just looked again, briefly, and didn't see anything about the forum on the OWC front page, tech support or customer service.

I just got a new one last spring. My old one had been lost for several years. I had to fill out a form explaining the context in which the old one was lost. It would have saved a couple of minutes to have had the old one with me.
One other issue was that they _required_ an official birth certificate. They would not accept one that didn't have the official seal, even though it was an origin
