The only solution is the dissolution of the IRS and our current tax code and replace it with a VAT. 20,000 pages of tax code and the IRS having more power than any government agency, e.g., being able to put a lien on your house and YOU have to prove your taxes are in order-not asking for proof before they put on the lien. A VAT works everywhere else in the world and no reams of paperwork to filby DP - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
The real issue to me is not whether gays should marry; it's about the Constitution. There should NEVER be any amendment that prohibits rights regardless. History is littered with societies that have disappeared from the face of the earth after they started denying rights to their citizens. An amendment that denies rights passes, it's the beginning of the end.by DP - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
I've always felt that Zarkawi was just a psychopath who used Islam and jihad as excuses for murder. He was evil, pure and simple.by DP - 'Friendly' Political Ranting

Nasty s••t happens all the time during war. Does that make it right? Of course not. But we need facts not hearsay. If the soldiers committed the crime, they will do the time... But, where's the outrage over the murders of the school kids on their way to take exams? The Sunnis were released, the Shia and Kurds were executed. Where's the outrage there? Where's the outrage over the Darfur situatby DP - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
I would just add that if you're printing photographs and you want them gorgeous do not use aftermarket inks. When I experimented in the past-to save money, of course-I was vastly disappointed with the print quality. Use Epson inks for photographs you want to be proud of.by DP - Tips and Deals
Sharpie says their pens are safe because the solvent evaporates leaving just inert pigment. Also, who cares if it lasts for 50 years. CD's will be replaced by whatever new media comes along 10 years from now... Hell, maybe 5.by DP - Tips and Deals
Here in the Detroit area, the guy is legend. But you're right about wasting resources when the Oakland County child killer case, for example, has never been solved-although someone is being investigated as we speak (write).by DP - Tips and Deals

I have students and friends that have been sending me Photoshopped images that are saved as JPEG's to their desktops. When they email me, tho', the image will display in Entourage but when I save it to my desktop and try to open it in PS I get a "Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document" message. Thanx for answering quickly. Pismo G3 400 1GB OS 10.3.9. I'm sorry I don't know how to post screen shots. I know there have been numerous posts with instructions but I haven't tried it. Is it the IMG thing in brackets?by DP - Tips and Deals
I had posted earlier about problems printing in InDesign that won't print the full page no matter what settings I choose. Still have never gotten that figured out except for choosing 98% instead of 100% which, of course, is not what I want. So now, I am printing some images in PS CS2 and a part of the image isn't getting printed unless I 1), scale it to 98%, or 2), move the image off center! I amby DP - Tips and Deals

The bottom line is simply supply and demand. The people bitching about it the most are the ones who drive 85 mph in high consumption vehicles, drag race from a green light, and would refuse to use public transportation. It's the consumer who controls the pricing. And don't forget that more comes out of a barrel of oil than gas for your car. Do you use soap or a "bath bar"? If it doesn'tby DP - Tips and Deals

A friend wants to show me some images that are PSD's. However, when we try to open them, we get a "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file" dialog box. Tried the Get info trick, changed the suffix, etc., nothing. The images were created in CS2 and I'm tryiyng to open them in CS2. I plan on keeping mine even tho' I'll be getting an iMac soon. Can you give me more info on Quartz and Core Image? They sound helpful and I'm not familiar with either. 400 1GB 60GB Hitachi 10.3.9 combo drive.by DP - Tips and Deals
Yes, I've tried to join them when importing from the CD. I will double-check that and try it again, however. If all else fails, I'll give the iMovie trick a shot. Thanx for the help.by DP - Tips and Deals
from an earlier thread: 2GB Nano. Gap between songs. I read the links you all listed for me amd tried what was suggested which was to import the songs as one song. My iPod version is 1.1, QT 6.5, iTunes 6.0.3. Trying to do the "Join CD Tracks" but it is greyed out no matter what setting-such as AIFF, AAC, MPEG-3, whatever-I select. Anything else I can try?by DP - Tips and Deals
Black 2GB Nano. I've burned a CD of music that has no gap between songs-each tune just continues unbroken into the next. I've burned a copy for a friend and it plays fine; also plays fine on my computer. Put in on the Nano and I get a one second gap between songs. Have checked all preferences on iTunes and the Nano but no change. Gap between songs set to zero, etc. Have re-recorded to the iPod thby DP - Tips and Deals
Well, my wife had dinner ready so I put my computer to sleep, ate, came back, woke it up, and everything is back to normal... Ah, computers! Anyway, I'm printing out this post to keep you suggestions in case it happens again. Anyone ever run into anything like this before?by DP - Tips and Deals
CS2. Been working on a lot of images and am about an hour into this and I can't save it. I keep getting "cannot complete your request because of a program error". Never seen this before. My last saved version is a half hour's work back. I've tried Save As, saving with a different name, saving as a different file format, etc. etc. Also, it won't let me do some things like Copy or Cut; saby DP - Tips and Deals
Again, thanx for the help. Will report back later when I figure it out. Also, a last plug for the Pismo. I wish I could drop a G4 1.8 into this thing. It has been and still is rock solid and just keeps motoring along after five years of pretty heavy use. Besides the battery, I've had to replace the LG CD/DVD unit and I have a third HD (60 GB Hitachi) but it is still working just fine.by DP - Tips and Deals

Well, it did it again today. I took my Pismo to school-carrying it my laptop case-and when I got home it was loose enough that the computer shut down. The latch doesn't catch on anything to open it. Which other bay are you speaking of, Larry? The combo drive bay? I am the only owner. It does fit snug in the bay. Perhaps it is just a bad catch. It's a Pismo, yes. Actually, I bought it about a year ago (how time flies...) and have been quite happy with the battery life but it does slip out. Your item # is NWTBAPLLILF2EH. It's a 6600MAH High Capacity Extended Life battery for Lombard and Pismo. Thanx for answering so quickly.by DP - Tips and Deals
I bought a battery for my Piz a few months ago, Larry, and when I take my computer with me, the battery slips out of the computer. It doesn't fit tight. I don't have the specs on it while I write this but what can I do about it? Duct tape? TIA.by DP - Tips and Deals
