In my experience, the Gigas run HOT. If you look at that above eBay auction, take a peek at the picture. I think it's demand. I have always wanted a good one as well - but since most good cameras do a decent job, and only pros (and semi pros) really NEED one.... not a lot are sold therefore prices stay high. Pr0n will hopefully comment and tell us where to buy a super-duper-whiz-bang model for way less than we had ever dreamed, and we'll both then run out and buy it. ;>)

Look at it this way - it's disconnected the leads from the logic board, not the other way around (disconnecting the leads from the plug). I applaud you if you can reattach the traces on the logic board. I wish you THE BEST of luck. However, I know I'd not even waste my time attempting it. I am handy with a soldering iron; but I also know how to calculate ROI; and my time is not well spent work

I watched a Contour blow it's trans all over the track ay Byron, IL dragstrip about 9 years ago. Stopped the races for about a half hour while they cleaned up the mess - idiot didn't come to a stop, he coasted, oiling the track for 200'. And yes, the Mercury Mistake is a common nickname for them. :>)

The suggestions for the aluminum construction drives we sell is excellent, they offer passive cooling and do not need a fan at all. I bet you got a speed bump or they did a hardware upgrade. That's the only times they have changed mine. If you were at 4MBit, you're probably now at 6. Nationwide they are doing that "free" upgrade to compete with local DSL telcos. Give it a shot. You may be happy!

The original V1 will not accommodate any Seagate made in the last 2 years. REALLY old Barracuda drives will fit - but the modern ones will not. The V2 eliminated that problem. :>)

Yup, it's attached with a square of velcro. Simple to replace, unclip the back (fat or thin back), and it's plainly visible, attaches to the logic board with simple slide on pins. It's a 4.5v battery.

Since it's a couple years old, it can be difficult. Some have a small rount brass lined hole through the board, near the center. You can bend a paperclip (or if you have a hook, like for automotive work), pull using that hole. Or, you can also try and put your little pinky finger inside, around the edge of a firewire port, and gently pull. The rails on the sides are rubber and very grippy; once

Bradsdad: The current model processors we are selling DO turn all fans off when the machine goes to sleep. Deep sleep, that is; regular sleep (if you have just the monitor turning off) won't shut any of the internal fans off. Try this; manually tell the machine to sleep. Do all of the fans turn off, the drives spin down, etc.? If not, then you have a PCI card installed that does not support

Hi- We have to cut the tab off as it hits some capacitors in some systems. And we remove the traces, no tape allowed - it can come off and get stuck in the AGP slot. Not fun to remove.
