I'm still fond of word 5.1 I think the Kinect looks cool.by sekker - Tips and Deals

40% of MN high school graduates need remedial prep classes for taking college math or English. Only 30% of the ACT-taking (and presumably college-bound) students score high enough on the biology portion of the exam to enable them to pass a college biology course. I was a full professor at a Big Ten university and left four years ago for a smaller and private graduate/medical training institby sekker - Tips and Deals
B&M is nice. But I would not hesitate to buy a name brand from newegg.by sekker - Tips and Deals
My home phone number - post away. You can get that from the local phone book. My cell phone number? - no way. If I started getting solicitors on that line, I'd have to switch numbers. And as it's also used for business, that's a deal-breaker. The problem is that for many people, they ONLY have a cell phone. That's placing Facebook into a bind - how to sell the personal information we postby sekker - Tips and Deals
QuoteBuzz 17" = too big 13" = too small 15" = just right I think there's a kid's story about it somewhere. I've owned 17 and 15 models. I often found the 17 too bulky and too wide when traveling. For example, it did not fit well under the seat of an airplane. Or in meeting room spots assigned to me. I went to a 15 and did not miss the extra screen real estate as I pluggeby sekker - Tips and Deals

We get MacLife now - it's well read in my house.by sekker - Tips and Deals
That's exactly what I did. I'm hoping for software that would map out the likely bad sectors. Otherwise, I have to replace this SSD which is no longer under warranty and likely never worked right from the beginning (but I did not realize it).by sekker - Tips and Deals

The lack of 4G on the iPad2 is the only obvious negative compared to the others. The memory expansion option and USB ports are nice options on the Android tablets. Seems to me the real advantage Apple has in this case is - price. They have real options from less than $400 to $800. And you can buy them - they are shipping products.by sekker - Tips and Deals
This MBP has a RunCore IV SSD as its boot drive. It's very quick. But each time I've used the SSD as the main boot drive, my system seems less stable and problems tend to accumulate pretty rapidly (especially plugging and unplugging from external monitors and sleep issues). I do not have these problems when I use a Seagate 500GB hybrid as my boot drive. So I figure the issue has to do withby sekker - Tips and Deals
Write speed WILL diminish until TRIM support kicks in with 10.7 (or does that SSD have garbage collection turned on?) But even at the reduced speed, still much faster than a hard drive. Read speed is not compromised with continual use. The experience posted here is why I'm absolutely convinced the next real update to MBPs will mean a flash memory-based boot drive.by sekker - Tips and Deals
I am not thrilled with Apple's customer service. My experience with my issue over a defective iMac was insulting, and the people in customer relations were inept. My advice - get your sister the gift card and have HER buy the mini in HER name. Get everything clean so there is no negative history. In the meantime, figure out what the heck is wrong with Apple!by sekker - Tips and Deals
I think you are missing the point. Being head of Apple is not a job - it's what Steve Jobs IS.by sekker - Tips and Deals
Unless the mac mini form factor is really an advantage (i.e. in a home theater system), the iMac is really a better machine. Even the 'low-end' model is very sweet. This really all depends on the age of your niece, however. If this is going to be her only machine, I would seriously consider a laptop. I think using Apple laptops with external monitors and keyboards as a main machine is a terrifby sekker - Tips and Deals
I prefer the older, straight connector version over the newer, offset one. Apple made both 60W and 85W versions of each. I purchased some re-used ones from our sponsor. One terminally broke after 30 days, another is very flaky. I have not researched the unofficial third party ones recently.by sekker - Tips and Deals
If you replace your technology regularly, then the iPad v1 is not a bad investment. It's not going to lose a whole lot more in value than $100 or so off the refurbished price during the next year. Heck, it might be easier to jailbreak, making it an investment where you could see a decent return in 6 months. OTOH, if you replace your technology regularly, then you probably like the latest in teby sekker - Tips and Deals
Quotemichaelb My kids have been saving for 6 months, so I am in (for 32GB + 3g). But for which one? We are happy with our iPad 3G v1. At least for now.by sekker - Tips and Deals
Put an SSD on one of the macs and install windows via fusion. Runs a LOT faster than installed on a hard drive - and you get the SSD speed bump on the rest of the system, tooby sekker - Tips and Deals
You can also check the battery before you buy. Most batteries don't totally fail - they just lose their charge potential.by sekker - Tips and Deals
They can be painful. My college calls me ALL the time, and I am already a member of their alumni association. The last time they called and I answered, it was 6:30 at night. I politely told them that this was family (dinner) time, the next time they called, I was going to be canceling my dues. It worked for about 2 months.by sekker - Tips and Deals
Quotedavester Quotesekker This is just as ridiculous as Apple not including USB2 in the Al PB G4s My gen 1 Al PB G4 (that I'm typing on this very instant) has two USB2 ports. Then you must have the 15" model. The original 12 and 17 inch models each came with USB 1.1 ports. check out the Apple page:by sekker - Tips and Deals
I have a similar setup as Gareth - 256GB SSD for OS and Apps, 500GB HD for media (photos, movies, itunes) and for my bootcamp partition. This is a sweet setup. This machine is very, very quick. This kind of setup is clearly the future of Macs.by sekker - Tips and Deals
