About a year or more ago my ir connector also came off the board of my 2011 mac mini and I have not noticed any problems from it as I never used it with a remote.

I have heard that bare copper wire across the roof spaced a couple of feet apart will keep the moss at bay. As for cleaning it, i am no help there. Good luck.

Crazy as it seems for built up water marks on shower doors try WD 40. Then clean the WD 40 off in your normal cleaning way.

Maybe set nighttime to end at 4 or 5 and let the house slowly start warming up before you get up. It should still be comfortable for sleeping.
