First, determine if you even need security. If you live in a house where your neighbors are at a reasonable distance from you and you don't see a line a cars parked out front of your house, who are you trying to keep out?

Yes, but most enclosures will only "see" one drive on the cable - the one jumpered as Master - regardless of the number of connectors.

Actually, most current large drives run cooler and quieter than drives produced when 160 GB was the limit.

Unless you're adding sofware that requires 10.4, there's no real compelling reason to upgrade now. Wait another six months or so for 10.5 and save a few bucks.

The documentation was written when the largest available drive was 250 GB. There have been no changes in the drive electronics, so a case that worked with 160 GB drives works with 750 GB drives and everything in between.

On the OS question, there's no way to just 'update' a PPC OS to make it work on an Intel machine. You can use the Migration Asst for apps and settings but you cannot clone a PPC install and have it work on an Intel machine.

Been using an R300 for the past two years and a Stylus 750 for five years with generic ink carts (G&Gs in the R300 and Ink4Arts in the 750) and never had a skip or clog and have never turned either printer off - except for the two days after Katrina. You could check the drive's compatability over at xlr8yourmac.com or just trust that Patchburn will get the job done. The Pioneers will also probably need Patchburn but it depends on the model and version of OSX she installs.

Have you tried a simple A&I to eliminate the software side of the problem equation? If that doesn't help, then it's hardware and time for a trip to the Apple store or a phone call at least.

I've had Viewsonics that have gone for years after the first indication of such a problem and had one that dropped dead within days. When you start hearing as well as seeing strange things, get your wallet out. Whatever the problem is, it can't be economically fixed.

You are correct about the non-Apple enet port - you do need the crossover cable.

Once the computer is up and running, the PRAM battery is totally irrelevant - so it's not your problem. How about just reinstalling the Safai and iTunes apps and see if that helps.

Since Acomdata doesn't produce hard drives, it's the luck of the draw which mfgr's drive ends up in the case you buy. At least with the WD, you know what you're getting going in.

Leopard will be announced at WWDC but will not be for sale until Jan's MWSF along with iLife '07 and iWork '07. It is doubtful whether the iMacs or the MacBooks will be speedbumped since the Intel desktops are to be the main attractions.

<Boot the Intel Mac into target mode and its DVD drive should be accessible and recognized as a FireWire DVD drive on the iMac. Except for the fact that in target mode only the Master drive on bus 0 is recognized - no DVD.

1 - Yes. No problem with that part, but... 2 - Nope. The PPC Install disks cannot boot an Intel Mac. And Grimmy - Tiger works fine on Rev D iMacs - the ones without Firewire. At least it does on my Lime Green machine.
