What version of iPhoto? If v8 or earlier, you can convert the library with a special app. (I think v8 might have come with Mavericks.) It should then import smoothly into Photos. ...32-bit app, need to run it under Mojave or earlier.by Tiangou - Tips and Deals
QuoteRobert M Tiangou, That's the thing. If the OS installer on the recovery drive is from an older flavor of the MacOS (which is the case on my machine) the new boot volume created using the Recovery System isn't going to have the current OS on it. It will have the older OS on it. Seems like the Recovery Drive needs updated an OS installer else you risk installing the older flavor of the MacOby Tiangou - Tips and Deals
Marvel actor Jeremy Renner will undergo a second surgery as he remains in intensive care with 'extensive injuries' following an accident involving a snow plow. The star suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries after the snowcat he was using to plow his driveway ran him over. Renner, 51, underwent his first surgery earlier on Monday January 2, as part of an extensive recovery prby Tiangou - Tips and Deals
QuoteRobert M Wouldn't that same issue be a problem if I booted off the Recovery Drive of a machine, wiped the volume, reinstalled the OS and then used Migration Assistant to restore from a Time Machine backup? You mean that the migrated user-data would potentially be out of date for the OS that you recovered to? No. That's normal and acceptable. (Your settings will presumably be updated asby Tiangou - Tips and Deals
No. Wouldn't risk it. That usually refers to the entrance-height, but often there will be low-hanging plumbing and other traps just waiting for you inside.by Tiangou - Tips and Deals
QuoteRobert MI always_ make a clone of a system prior to a major OS or software upgrade. That's in addition to regularly cloning my primary boot drive. Then I'm not sure what you're objecting to in my last post.by Tiangou - Tips and Deals
I can see why. The characters weren't engaging and the story felt "forced." I had a hard time getting into it.by Tiangou - Tips and Deals
For a one-shot backup right before an OS upgrade, why not just make a clone onto a "Clone Drive" with the Legacy Bootable Copy Assistant? ...The main problem with a bootable clone is with ongoing incremental backups. Incremental backups of the data-volume will probably cause compatibility issues with the boot-volume on the backup drive unless you religiously boot to the backup toby Tiangou - Tips and Deals
Renner, who was the only person involved in the accident... What do you suppose happened? Missed the road and rolled the plow?? (Wishing him well.)by Tiangou - Tips and Deals
Download a FTP server app from the App Store on your modern Mac. I've used this one ($5 bucks) for an old scanner: Install Fetch 4 on your old Mac.by Tiangou - Tips and Deals
The last 2 weeks of Dec were kind of hellish, closing out stuff from my old job. Starting a new job in January. No exercise outside of the walk in and out of buildings and the occasional set of stairs. Didn't gain any weight, mostly because stress and lack of time kept me from eating. Off this week. Two workouts already. (Jogging.) Feeling much better. Surprised me that I didn't need toby Tiangou - Tips and Deals
According to the Music App: Oldest last-played date: Arlo Guthree - Deportee... 3/28/06. However, there are a bunch of caveats. I sync about 25% of my iTunes library to my phone, and change-up the playlists every few months. I usually have my music on shuffle on the iPhone. Play-counts sync, but last-played does not seem to sync. So, I don't know how authoritative this is. And betterby Tiangou - Tips and Deals

QuoteAcer Isn't this the party that perpetually runs on the Government Can't Be Trusted? If they can't be trusted to monitor themselves, then they should set up an independent watchdog. Why would they do that? As you say, they run on the "government can't be trusted" platform. Making the government more trustworthy is antithetical to their political philosophy.by Tiangou - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
QuoteAcer How do you differentiate looting and rioting from resisting a tyrannical government? How many members of the press are being jailed/killed for contradicting government propaganda?by Tiangou - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
The funny thing is that she keeps saying that there's not a negative correlation, HOWEVER, she demonstrates very clearly that -- while it may not be true when you look at the whole of the population -- within the bounds of any individual dating-person's experience there is a clear negative correlation.by Tiangou - Tips and Deals
I think the crazy political-videos and that thing where he threw what he claimed was an aborted fetus theatrically onto a table were simply politically-expedient excuses. There was (allegedly) a decade or more of mounting evidence that he was stealing millions from the diocese and he refused to cooperate with investigations. The Church seems to have a problem handing over criminals in theirby Tiangou - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
QuoteJoeH Further item to check, the battery... A 9600 will (ordinarily) either not start up at all or will start to boot and then shut down if the battery is dead. But it doesn't hurt to replace the battery if all else fails. 3.6 V lithium 1/2 AA.by Tiangou - Tips and Deals
QuotePeterW When you back up a drive in a recent version of OS and it takes 15 seconds rather than 15 minutes like with previous versions, you’ll appreciate some of Apple’s tricks. Are you thinking of Carbon Copy Cloner? Wouldn't credit Apple with the speed benefits of CCC v6.by Tiangou - Tips and Deals
Pure static is usually the screensaver for a display that's not receiving a signal. It's not coming from the Mac. Std troubleshooting: Re-seat the cable for the display, at both ends. Zap PRAM. With power-off, detach the display-cable, re-seat the display card (consider moving to another PCI slot), then reconnect everything ... and zap PRAM again for good-measure.by Tiangou - Tips and Deals
Quotegadje So the file system or at least the drive management took many steps backwards in recent years? Call it "sideways." There are new tricks for APFS volumes and multiple user-spaces and virtualization. Apple giveth and Apple lets rot for a few years and then taketh away.by Tiangou - Tips and Deals
Mike Rowe looks like a great guy to hang with. Doesn't seem like the brightest bulb, but I get the impression that he's earnest. He's got a great talent for scripted narration.by Tiangou - Tips and Deals
1. Don't do it. Best to use an external drive for your second boot vol vs partitioning the internal drive on a new Mac. 2. Yes, you'd need to make a new partition for this purpose. Don't. Apple has gotten really sloppy about documenting the boot vols and processes on modern Macs and it's very easy for something to get hosed, if not immediately then on a future OS update/upgrade. QuoteJoeH In some states that would be considered illegal working conditions. It's illegal in California, and illegal under federal law. OSHA requires sanitary bathroom facilities. And if the odors/filth get to the point where they can cause illness/injury, those are going to be violations as well. It takes time to process complaints. Could be weeks/months before we hear about a governmenby Tiangou - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
QuoteTed King QuoteMeadows is “explicitly excepted from certain residency requirements as a result of his service to the federal government,” Stein added. If that's the law, then that's the right decision. If he's stretching the law, then I'd wonder why a Democratic state AG would do that. North Carolina has pretty liberal laws for residency for the purposes of voting. All that heby Tiangou - 'Friendly' Political Ranting

When I was freelancing, I made a FileMaker DB to track time/billing and generate invoices. My old boss brought me back on to fill-in for all the guys he laid off. He had a habit of mailing checks two weeks late. Just for him, I made a button that created a duplicate invoice with a big red "LATE: Please Remit Payment" stamp.by Tiangou - Tips and Deals
