Using ist gen iPhone as an iPod Touch - 15 years ago

I bought a 1st gen iPhone from a friend to use as an iPod Touch. He tells me he had AT&T put a new sim in it. When I connect it, iTunes opens with the authorization/registration AT&T pages asking me to pick a phone plan. The iPhone just shows an emergency call screen. I can not find a way around this to do anything else. Anybody have any experience trying to do this? Any suggestio

Quoterankandfile Shut down. Disconnect FW drive(s). Restart. Add drives back one at a time. Tried that earlier and again just now. No joy. Maybe pulling the power plug as suggested above will work.

I accidentally turned my power strip off, cutting the power to my eMac and FW external drives. Now the drives are not recognized when system (10.3.9) is rebooted. Checked drives on a MacBook Pro, they are okay. Tried both FW ports and repeated rebootings. System Profiler on eMac says "no information found" under Firewire. Any suggestions? Any fixes? Are my FW ports fried permanen

While I suspect it's a dried ink problem, I'll share an odd incident that happened to me. I replaced a color cartridge and got the ink is out message. Multiple heading cleanings and windex applications plus two weeks of frustration later, as I took the cartridge out, the light hit just right so that I could see a clear piece of tape over the hole in the top of the cartridge. I am so sorry for your loss, Jem. I lost my father at age 69 twenty-five years ago. I know the numbness you are feeling. I know the grieve and pain that will likely come when the numbness wears off. I voted about 8:00 am in the rain. Somewhat to my surprise, no one in line ahead of me. Just a small steady stream of people walking up and being quickly facilitated by the voting staff.
