Does AT&T Fiber have synchronous upload/download speeds? I don't live in an AT&T area, but some of my co-workers do. In our extended WFH reality, many of them still need to bump up their Internet service. I have Fios gigabit service myself. I get 980 MBps up and down. I couldn't live without it.

The Aricebo facility wasn't obsolete by any means, but repairs from the previous cable failures were deemed too expensive/difficult, so they planned to dismantle it in a controlled way. It's a tremendous loss for astronomy. There's only one other facility on Earth similar to it, based in China. I read that there are plans to build a new facility in Puerto Rico to replace it, but I don't know i

I used to go to the West Coast Computer Faire every year. A fascinating trade show for a nascent industry. Wish I still had some of the Apple swag I picked up back in those days. My dad contemplated getting a CP/M card for running WordStar, but he settled on some other word processing and spreadsheet options.

Thanks, all. Much appreciated. It's been an interesting year. Lots of changes, including a couple I never foresaw myself doing in a million years, but overall positive steps that I believe will bear fruit for us in the new year and beyond.

Long Island City was already gentrifying rapidly. The area is currently served by the 7, E, M, and G trains, as well as a LIRR terminal and various ferry stops. Seems like a lot of options, but they're already mostly operating at capacity. Andrew Cuomo is giving them $1.5 billion in state subsidies. Wish he'd spent that money improving said public transit infrastructure instead.

The Quadra 840AV was my daily work driver back in the day. Nice machine. For a while I had one of those Apple Adjustable Keyboards with the optional floating numpad. They looked great, but had a mushier typing feel than the classic Extended Keyboards did, so I didn't stick with it for too long. Is that one of the GeoPort modems on the far left of the spread? God, those things were awful. T

Better to have the GPU than not have it, IMO. That said, I got my wife a 2015 15" rMBP with only the integrated graphics and it's been great so far, but she doesn't regularly use any applications that would greatly benefit from the GPU.

They still film pretty frequently in my neighborhood, and their main soundstage facility is just down the road. We've even seem Noah Emmerich (Agent Beeman) in the neighborhood a couple of times. The last season was a bit weak, but the characters and the dilemmas they face are pretty engrossing.

It'll be interesting to see what you get by connecting to ethernet. If your network administrator is remotely competent, the ethernet ports will have a VLAN assigned to it, tied to its own subnet. If they want to keep that subnet isolated, they won't make it routable to the other subnet(s). Something like a Nvidia GTX 970 is a good upgrade over the Radeon 5870, especially if you want to work in 4K. I haven't tried any of the new Pascal cards in a Mac Pro yet, but they pack a lot of performance in a more efficient package. The GTX 1070 should be a pretty solid performer.
