To tie a bow on this - the experts at atari-forum.com got me going and I am now looking at my amateur software (and revisiting my original sequencing software, Dr. T's Omega II) after 30 years! What a trip. Here's a screenshot from my Akai S900 editor. I never released this, and now is probably a little late! I'll add that midi is working well. The latest version of Hatari (the ST emulby reezekeys - Tips and Deals
I did post on an Atari board as suggested. Someone there suggested I try using Disk Utility to image the CD-R. It worked! I'm still a ways from making it mountable in my ST Emulator (Hatari, for which an Apple SIlicon native version exists!), but getting closer. I opened the .dmg in a hex editor, and by just looking at the ascii characters was able to see that a lot of the midi software I wrote iby reezekeys - Tips and Deals
QuoteWill Collier If you can't get access to a pre-OSX Mac, I'd post the question to a board in the Atari ST retro community. You'll probably have better luck there. (I don't know where you'd find that community, but if it was me I'd start at the Atari Age boards.) Well I tried - maybe I give up too easily but I'm not gonna start trying to install Linux on my M2 MacBook Air (see thread linkedby reezekeys - Tips and Deals
QuotePeterW Don’t know where you picked up that info but Monterey and Ventura can read and write HFS+ disks. I should have figured that. Thanks. My searching turned up this web page: The second message begins with "They were probably formatted using the old HFS (“Mac OS Standard”) file system, which Apple dropped in macOS 10.15 (“Catalina”)." Now I see he says &quoby reezekeys - Tips and Deals
Yes I still have it! Haven't fired it up in a while though. I was so proud of my S900 Editor! Programmed in GFA Basic, then compiled into a standalone app. I never uploaded it anywhere. The Atari was a fantastic platform for midi apps.by reezekeys - Tips and Deals
I ran into a few other older CD-Rs from my PPC days which couldn't be read and only now learned that support for HFS+ was dropped in Monterey or Ventura. I have an old Mac with Mojave which I'll try in a while – maybe I'll get lucky with that Atari disk!by reezekeys - Tips and Deals
I was cleaning out my garage and came upon a CD-R labeled "SCSI Copy of Atari format Syquest EZ-135 disk." That's a mouthful, I know. Many years ago I used an Atari ST and wrote midi software (an editor for the Akai S900 sampler) that I thought was lost forever. I'm not sure if it was on that Syquest but I'm very curious to find out - if there's a way! I know the Atari floppy formby reezekeys - Tips and Deals
OK the elevator is nearing the top floor. You can temporarily disable the iPhone's e-sim in the Settings app.by reezekeys - Tips and Deals
Thanks - that seems more for short-term travel though. Their price for a month in Ireland is $64. I remember paying something like £12 (around $15) for a month of service in the UK - around 10 or 15GB of data iirc, and it included roaming in Europe. My child will be there thru the middle of December.by reezekeys - Tips and Deals
I’m a Yank, in a band that occasionally travels to the UK. My move is to have the app “Talkatone” on my phone – a VOIP phone app that does free calls to USA numbers and gives me a USA number. When I’m in the airport getting ready to leave I forward my regular USA # to my Talkatone number. When I land in the UK I get a local “pay as you go” SIM card which gives me a month of data (alby reezekeys - Tips and Deals
Venting a bit here. After a few times where I plugged in the enclosure and the drive didn't mount, I'm returning this Orico enclosure and it's back to square one trying to find a reliable USB 3.2 Gen 2 NVMe case. There are plenty of Chinese brand-du-jour cases on Amazon, all around the same price. I wouldn't be surprised if the bridge boards inside were all made in the same factory. When they worby reezekeys - Tips and Deals
False alarm? I downloaded a different disk speed app: Atto Disk Benchmark. Now everything looks hunky-dory: See that "I/O Size" parameter at 64MB? There are a few additional choices beyond that (128, 256 and 512MB) but selecting any of those and starting the test causes the app to crash. Still, I think I'm OK... I think?!!by reezekeys - Tips and Deals
Just got the new case, yes it's another "budget" model: link. Same numbers - read speed is half the write speed. So, two bad cases? Doesn't seem likely. Typical speeds I should expect? Still don't know the answer to that Q. The SSD was $40. Am I really gonna wind up spending double that for an enclosure?!by reezekeys - Tips and Deals
Quotejdc 950/950 would be spectacular. I think you get that its not about the stick, its the case that's the limiting factor, correct? That would be my guess, yes; the write speeds are in line with that figure. I only find it strange that my read speeds are half those. Seems like that could be either the case or a bad stick, so I'm just gonna roll the dice and go with a bad case. Hopefullyby reezekeys - Tips and Deals
Of course I know I'm not gonna get 3500MB/s from this stick! I would settle for reasonable performance numbers typical for an M.2 SSD drive in a non-defective USB Gen 3.2 case. I (still) don't know what those numbers are. I understand the idea of wanting peripherals to operate at the maximum speeds hardware allows - and to some, simply knowing you have that level of ability in your hardware isby reezekeys - Tips and Deals
Yes my new 15" Air specs say "USB 3.1 Gen 2 (up to 10Gb/s)", and that equals 1250 MB/s, close to your 1050 (is that the binary vs base 10 discrepancy at play?). My enclosure claims to be USB 3.1 Gen 2, and the stick itself claims, well, look at the label: It appears something is not right!by reezekeys - Tips and Deals
QuoteTiangou Stupid question: Do you still get the slow read speeds after a reboot? Yes. QuoteTiangou Stupid question number two: Is there anything else hooked up to USB? Nope. QuoteRobert M I'd not have chosen either drive or enclosure. There are better sticks and boxes out there. I know! I’m well aware I’ve gone the “budget” route here. The thing is, I’m coming from aby reezekeys - Tips and Deals

Thanks for the reply. I've read a bit about SSD caches but it's been a while - I thought they affected writes, not reads? Also... am I mixing up MB/sec (bytes) with Mb/sec (bits)? The Speed Test screen uses the large "B" so I'm thinking bytes. In any case, isn't 1000MB/sec 1 GB/sec, not 10 GB/sec as you wrote?by reezekeys - Tips and Deals
I just got myself an 15” MacBook Air after ten years with my 2013 MacBook Pro, so of course I am updating software and getting adapters for my older USB stuff. I was wanting to enter the modern world so I got this external USB-C NVMe enclosure: . Then I got this Crucial 1TB NVMe drive: . I realize these are not the best/fastest and of course I’m not expecting anything near the theoreticalby reezekeys - Tips and Deals
I have no issue with the feel, it's pretty much the same as without it. Then again I don't do a lot of multi-touch gestures, just move the mouse pointer and click. Just tried the pinch zoom in & out, that felt fine. I'm keeping this on here.by reezekeys - Tips and Deals
After noticing this discoloration on my trackpad after owning my new MBA for two weeks I decided to try the "protector." The stuff did clean off with some IPA so I know it wasn't permanent, but since this sheet of clear plastic came with my shell I figured "why not"? It has no effect at all on trackpad operation.by reezekeys - Tips and Deals
Mine came in a different package - a shell, trackpad protector, keyboard "skin" and webcam cover. All I'm missing is the palmrest protector!by reezekeys - Tips and Deals
Thanks! I might give it a try. I'd like to keep this new Air looking as nice as it does now.by reezekeys - Tips and Deals
OK, one vote in favor! So this protector has no effect on touch gestures, swipes, etc.?by reezekeys - Tips and Deals
Thanks to all who replied. It seems like this is a solution in search of a problem. As someone who's banged up my old MBP getting it in & out of hotel room safes, and also seen what can accumulate inside a computer keyboard after a few years, I think the other two products I got - the shell, and silicon keyboard cover - are well worth having. The trackpad protector, not so much!by reezekeys - Tips and Deals
I just bought one of those plastic clear "shells" for my new MBA. Years of travel with my old MacBook Pro has shown me that this is probably a wise investment. It came with a silicone keyboard cover and a "trackpad protector." Is anyone here using one of those, and does it affect trackpad operation at all? I can see the reason for the laptop shell, as well as the keyboard coveby reezekeys - Tips and Deals
Yes, FB is now "mobile" on Safari. There's a workaround but it's a little tedious - open a new tab or window and change its "User Agent" to "Google Chrome macOS" (in the "Develop" menu), then load the FB page.by reezekeys - Tips and Deals
Fixed, but mostly by luck - I stumbled on the "365" page and got to a download & install link. The installer somehow wound up inside a ton of nested folders (i lost track of where exactly), not the Downloads folder. I moved it to an external.by reezekeys - Tips and Deals
I got through to idropnews, paid, got the key, went to MS, signed in, redeemed the key, got confirmation from MS, then clicked the link for the download - it's a blank page. Tried Chrome instead of Safari and I get a 404! I'll give it another shot later.by reezekeys - Tips and Deals
