QuoteMr645 Once again the clear winner of the debate was Trump. When is the democratic party debate? Why do you continue to support a self-admitted dictator? That's completely UN-American.by PeterB - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Quotepdq QuotePeterB Not to mention that Israel has been a very good friend to the U.S. over the years. Honestly, I have to ask, in what way? We send them (~4?) billions of dollars a year in (predominantly) military aid, and in return…they spy on us, sell “numerous closely guarded state secrets” their paid agent obtained, and yet will barely even consider any of our foreign policy requestby PeterB - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
QuoteSteve G.Christie says Trump won't be able to vote in 2024 In his closing statement of the night, Chris Christie predicted former President Trump won’t be able to cast a ballot in 2024 because of the legal battles he faces. “Picture in your minds Election Day. You’ll all be heading to the polls to vote. And that’s something Donald Trump will not be able to do,” Christie said.by PeterB - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
I made the mistake of watching at least some of it, and it was truly dreck. None of them would take on Dump except for Chris Christie, and he got booed whenever he did. Vivek needs to crawl back under the rock he came from. The same is true for Ron, except 2x. Ron DeFascist indeed. The only one other than Christie who sounded halfway sane was Nikki Haley, but her politics are loathsoby PeterB - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Quotesekker QuotePeterB A little dated, but some basic explanations of why it's a serious problem: Edit: and like sekker, I'm a geneticist and I would *never* give my DNA to 23andme or a similar company. Keep in mind, when you give YOUR DNA away, you are also giving half the DNA of a sibling, parent, or child. QuoteAcer Denied insurance or profiled by cops or denied a job based on leaked genetic info? If it was leaked, then the integrity of the information cannot be confirmed. Who knows how it was manipulated it after the leak. Useless. I'm much more concerned about these DNA collectors selling the confirmed data outright. That's the real threat, not these hackers. QuoteAllGold Repugs only have a 3-vote majority now. Can they really herd all those cats? A little outdated, but... substitute Mike Johnson, and you've got it...by PeterB - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
QuoteAllGold The other thing I have been hearing lately is young people won't vote for Biden because they are furious with him over his handling of Israel/Gaza. As if PAB wouldn't be much worse on that (like EVERYTHING else he would be worse on). Yes, I have heard that too. I don't exactly understand it, because if we don't support Israel, the only democracy in that region, we might as well kiby PeterB - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
I agree with $tevie -- I don't actually think Joe is evil at all. But from the cynical perspective of some, he's the lesser evil. And no, he's not perfect, but as I've said before: if it's a choice between a grandfatherly elderly guy and a narcissistic @#$%&h@t elderly guy, I know which one I'm choosing. And no, I wouldn't write off the Gen Z's just yet. But I do think some of them are haviby PeterB - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
For those using Safari, which version of Safari and which specific ad blocker are you using? I ask because I'm finding that Safari is no longer working with YouTube and an ad blocker, unless I turn the ad blocker off...by PeterB - Tips and Deals
QuoteSam3 Based on what my daughter is hearing from her friends as well as youth oriented social media, youth are going to vote third party, as Biden is too old and doesn’t understand and support youth and Trump is a narcisstic @#$%&. I sometimes think youth are stupid. Sometimes? While I understand the desire to not vote for someone who might have one foot in the grave (true for BOTHby PeterB - 'Friendly' Political Ranting

QuoteBuzz Ya ain't gonna beat twelve bucks, might as well just go for it. I've got a couple of USB wired num keypads that were more costly back when. Nothing special, but they work. But for good, and mechanical, I've got a great, old, as in ADB old, wired keypad, buried somewhere (if I didn't give to Harbourmaster years ago, who bequeathed the stash to Pat before changing coasts). ... mine just gave up the ghost. Sucks because I really liked this model-- it was a PCAlly PK-CPA, which they apparently don't make any more. It has larger "0/insert" and "Enter" keys, as well as a separate "00" key... Anyway: any recommendations for a good replacement? QuoteiaJim Stray cats are a real danger to our bird population. I would suggest that if you want to provide the cat a better life that you should bring it inside. If you don't, I think taking it to a rescue facility would be the next best choice. Strays and ferals are everywhere here. They're considered community cats and are actually protected by law. I would love for this cat to be adoptedby PeterB - Tips and Deals
QuoteMikeF Just write "Cat House" in large letters on it. Yes, it may come to that. QuoteDianaAs far as Porch Cat goes, PC will go rest wherever she feels safe. Oh, there's another factor I forgot to mention. This is likely to be sitting on my porch, so I'm actually not sure I'd want something that simply looks like a package or a tote-- might invite theft, which has been a serious problem over the years. (Of course, a thief might also take a cat house, but... it's such a niche item, I don't know how many thieves would be interested in that.)by PeterB - Tips and Deals
Quotemattkime I think you're better off going with something made for outdoor usage. This looks pretty simple - --- I guess the first one you linked to is made for outdoors and might be a good option. Yes, I saw that exact link you posted... I think I have a few concerns about it, first is having to continuously replace the straw (I kind of like the idea of something that's washable), seby PeterB - Tips and Deals
Hi everyone, With recent weather we've had down here (flooding rains), and the approach of very cold temps, I've been debating to make (or buy) a small outdoor shelter for my porch cat. I've seen lots of instructions online to make a shelter using either plastic totes or styrofoam coolers, but I'm also wondering if it makes sense to save some time and just use something premade. I just fouby PeterB - Tips and Deals

QuoteOmbligo In a filing made to the Colorado Supreme Court, lawyers for former President Donald Trump say that he never took an oath “to support the Constitution of the United States’’ Instead, the attorneys noted, Trump swore “to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution.” Therefore he should not be banned from the state’s presidential ballot. Quotemattkime You have an expensive and elaborate hobby. --- It would be helpful if you could get a better idea of where the sound is coming from. I have, in my research lab, a refrigerated incubator -- think large refrigerator, but with a much wider range of settable temperatures. It has started very intermittently making a lot of weird high-pitched squealing noises, but seems to be keeping the temp perfectly OK and otherwise seems to be working fine.
