The overall trend is one of easing... but what happened in 2021 to 2023 was unique and got far ahead of the curve. Right now there is still impact from an over supply in a weak market that's helped keep current costs from rocketing to where they otherwise would be. The cheap stuff today is pretty crummy QLC - but is, admittedly, fine for most consumer scenarios. Fast for bursts, fast for readby OWC Larry - Tips and Deals
I'm not a super Cybertruck fan... but there is a lot of hype/exaggeration with respect to certain 'problems' experienced there with. One of my neighbors has one and seems to love it - and no problems. I watched the video where they beat the crap out of it... the rear frame/tow came off after what was another more significant 'abuse' to the vehicle that clearly left damage that hadn't been notiby OWC Larry - Tips and Deals
I couldn't agree with you more on this. Talk is cheap. Quotevision63 It's not that difficult. God gives us tools and resources to act.by OWC Larry - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
We put so must trust in what other people say, report, convict others on. Right, wrong, indifferent - there is so much crap information conveyed as fact about all the different people in the spotlight. Social media and algorithms for online sites in general are also, in general, incredible today for focusing the information a user consumed towards that consumer's existing biases/leanings and thusby OWC Larry - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Sorry for the couple days of issue - glad to have all restored / cert issue fixed - was a provider transition that had a hiccup and was stuck and then unstuck without warning. Anyway - forward we go!by OWC Larry - Tips and Deals
It is interesting that others that also had Crowdstrike services and impact - like United - had a far quicker recovery, although still had their share of problems. A couple of our team members missed our meeting in July due to cancellations/delays. If it is true to that Delta declined the assistance/resources that Crowdstrike offered for restoring services, i'd say this is a lot of PR play wiby OWC Larry - Tips and Deals
Well hmmmm on the not plugging in.... maybe that pin array was an Apple bit, I dunno. In terms of trusting it - as an extra backup drive, etc, would expect more than just fine. If you download Softraid and run the free trial - can do a certify on it which will also give some peace of mind that it's good or call it out for real issue.by OWC Larry - Tips and Deals
Unfortunately - no way to normal mount the volume without the SSD part of what was a Fusion drive. now - you could run a data recovery app against the 2TB - as long as the volume was not encrypted - if there is data you need to recover. Otherwise - if you just want to use the drive for storage, no reason at all you that you shouldn't be able to initialize the drive and then have use of it.by OWC Larry - Tips and Deals
That photo is a SATA drive no question. The right edge connector looks like it's got a piece possibly broken off which may impact how those edge pins align in? FWIW - we also have a product - NewerTech universal adapter that is for both PATA/IDE and SATA: It is universal/OS agnostic. Other consideration - you can use MacDrive to mount both Mac HFS+ and APFS volumes for read/write on aby OWC Larry - Tips and Deals
I remember watching the Fall Guy with my mom, God rest her soul. My entire family found the movie really enjoyable + the memories there with. I'd probably not chosen to see it if not for the series - for various reasons - but one of the few movies recently that really was entertaining for all of us.by OWC Larry - Tips and Deals

I've eased up a little - but remain firm that we don't do deals over this weekend... this wasn't originally a 3 day weekend vs. a fixed day of May for remembrance. Let God's will be done, but the world and the USA have drifted afar imho. Came to be a beautiful day in Woodstock for the hoisting up of Old Glory.by OWC Larry - Tips and Deals
Me too. QuoteGareth Ah, "8-core". Might be helpful to update the subject, since 8/16 left me wondering if it was 8GB or 16GB. I think only the M1 Air had different options for core count?by OWC Larry - Tips and Deals
NICE! QuoteRAMd®d Yesterday: FedEx dropped off my "replacement" Apple Watch Series 9. Up and running again, still with functioning oximeter.by OWC Larry - Tips and Deals
lol. I note it as Apple disabled the feature on units they shipped after mid-Jan... No doubt they will get that all set and enable via software update All the same.by OWC Larry - Tips and Deals
I'd call out.. for a little more - we've got Apple Refurb Series 8 watch options from $249... complete with 1 Year Apple Warranty. With Blood Ox sensor enabled....by OWC Larry - Tips and Deals
A fair point in all of this.... Elon has created expectations and perceptions that the technology is further along than it is. Regardless of the safeties that are supposed be observed by the human in the driver's seat (and supposed to be in that seat), Elon does create a bit of over expectation of the current tech state and a dismissiveness to said safeties as a result. Still been the favoritby OWC Larry - Tips and Deals
Alrighty - one thing for sure, I would never ever say that Elon doesn't have a tendency to get way ahead of reality / over promise on time lines. Some crazy stuff there. Entertaining and informative video. My X can never do FSD, but I have had good experience with the Auto-Pilot. That being said - I typically have only used on highway driving. I am sure the vision will be delivered - but seby OWC Larry - Tips and Deals
Question - is the Pulse/Oxygen feature on the replacement still enabled? Apple got sued for a patent infringement and disabled the feature in watches starting in mid-January. In future this can be reactive via a software update once Apple solves this matter. Curious if they are controlling the feature for a warranty replacement like this based on purchase date - or if disabled on a replacemenby OWC Larry - Tips and Deals
Nicely put Ken - it's pretty interesting just the level and cadence of attacks on Tesla and Musk in general. Seen a lot of one sided coverage... a local Houston TV channel did a story on FSD and while they only showed video of the car driving great in all conditions presented, they talked about a situation where it stopped when it should have merged where some construction was closing a lane... Consider a pipe supplying water at a constant rate to a system that is using it a variable rate. A capacitor is like a water storage tank.... when there is a higher demand 'surge' than the steady in supply, it covers that peak and then 'refills' when demand is back under the supply rate.by OWC Larry - Tips and Deals
As a Tesla owner now for over a decade - it is really incredible the lack of maintenance costs vs. my wife's ICE vehicle. Even brakes are still original as the majority of braking I do is with the regenerative vs. the pads. The OTA updates keep the car feeling new and just am not able to complain. Battery life did drop about 18% vs. original.. but been stable there for the last several years andby OWC Larry - Tips and Deals
APFS is the best choice on MacOS for SSD. HFS+ way to go for HDD except where forced to APFS. APFS is horrible for HDD / physical location management and leads to major performance reductions as things are edited/duplicated/modified from original file states.by OWC Larry - Tips and Deals
QuoteFilliam H. Muffman Are there any CF cards close to that fast? yes - all of our latest CFExpress B gen 4 cards support over 3000MB/s read speeds for ingest. Fastest sustained right end to end is around 1600MB/s.... which is faster than any camera is able to use today in any mode.... but the point is the read/ingest speed and time saved there. Quotemacphanatic Hopefully they will releaseby OWC Larry - Tips and Deals
Fun fact - the music synth library used in his concert performances all driven by Macs/iPads that power and push data through OWC Docks and Thunderbay drive arrays. Pretty amazing the library of all his instrumentation over his decades that now all packed in digital. Literally physical truckloads would be for the physical instrumentation he uses now at a single concert.by OWC Larry - Tips and Deals
You are fully backed up - same model MacBook with different processor... should be a pretty clean swap. depending on the OS version and if there are other chipset differences in the i5 vs. i7 2017 MacBook Air - might have some differences in the proper OS install. It's been well over a decade since Apple went away from a single version 'universal' OS on Macs.... it may be a good idea install theby OWC Larry - Tips and Deals

LOL and thanks! I think Intel might stand in out way on the that tm. - Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! QuoteZoidberg Quotemattkime Great explanation Larry! Agreed. And though it was a typo, I'd happily buy a peripheral that said "THUDNERBOLT" on it, and that's something OWC can TM. ;)by OWC Larry - Tips and Deals
Not a horrible article... but not missed a couple things.... With respect to the USB4 vs. Thudnerbolt 3/4 - in addition to certification differences, there is also a difference in power. Like all our other USB solutions - we do build our USB4 1M2 and future to come at a very different level than most of what's out there. Thunderbolt - for the most part - has a much higher level of consistencyby OWC Larry - Tips and Deals
