we need more info. On what kinds of experiences you are desiring. California has around 840 miles of coast, they say, and I say much of it is beautiful. And it is all different. Every mile is a different beach. San Diego has the best weather in the US and 100 miles of beautiful beaches and adorable little beach towns. A dead cable! Here is a problem I haven't encountered before. An apple Thunderbolt 4 cable, the one that came with the fairly new display, just died. It might be transmitting power, I didn't check, but it is not sending video. This morning I booted up the Mac mini MI, 2020, attached to a fairly new Apple Studio Display, about 5 months old. The screen stayed dark. Hmmm. The computer was on - thby roshi - Tips and Deals

If you are sensitive enough to notice - that is, if you are really aware of your body, almost all drugs are depressing the day after, or two days after. I have tasted most drugs once, and absolutely love them and am grateful for them, but I stay completely clean because to me, the depression that always happens is not worth the temporary wonderfulness of the drug. My little business - being a writer and publishing a book every two years, USED to be fine with just email, for most of the last 25 years. But now it's grown, I have 6 employees, teaching online courses. We have half a dozen domains with associated email addresses hosted at Dreamhost and several Gmail Suite accounts at whatever they cost, $100 a year each or so. Is email really the way to runby roshi - Tips and Deals
I have 3 macs running Big Sur, which I like very much. I also have a 2014 Macbook in Mojave. Looking for your opinions and experiences about putting the newest OS on an old Mac. Model Name: MacBook Pro Model Identifier: MacBookPro11,1 Processor Name: Intel Core i7 Processor Speed: 3 GHz 8 GM I was keeping it in Mojave to occasionally use InDesign and the scanner software. I have a wonderful old HP CP 2025 that prints beautifully in color, and there are generic cartridges that are flawless and reasonably priced. I keep a 2014 MacBook in Catalina just to print to it, because Big Sur refuses to and gives me strange warning messages that this driver is dangerous, or something. It prints so beautifully, and as a writer, it helps to see the chapter headers in color -by roshi - Tips and Deals
That's what I am thinking, but I don't know anything. Why wouldn't an ipad pro's front camera be an excellent way to video?by roshi - Tips and Deals
I need to record some classes I am teaching. They will be recorded on Zoom, with a webcam. As an additional record, I will run one or two other cameras. I will set them up on tripods and leave them running as we teach. Later the different feeds can be mixed. I am totally unfamiliar with real cameras - video cameras. I am somewhat familiar with iphone and iPad cameras. Are "real"cby roshi - Tips and Deals
I bought my wife a new Macbook Air and did the Apple buy back thing, where they credited $460 for my old 2016 Macbook Pro. Went through the process of signing out of everything and resetting NVRAM and unpairing everything, reinstalling a fresh version of the OS. But now I am worried that just the basic erase does not really delete all those passwords. Our whole business was run from this Mac.by roshi - Tips and Deals

My assistant has been doing a huge amount of work for us for free. I want to buy her a new Mac Mini so she can use the same Mac programs we use, instead of Google and MS products. I am going to get her the new M1 chip Mini. I bought one when they came out and it is wonderful. She is going to buy the monitor herself. What should I recommend? thanks for the suggestions, I like the idea of skipping Catalina and waiting for a stable iteration of Big Sur. Her setup is very stable and there would be no reason to upgrade except theoretical security from latest OS. her setup - 2017 iMac with 1 TB SSD, 10.14.6 Mojave. My wife's iMac is running 10.14.6 Mojave and hates upgrades because several OS's ago, some changes to MAIL wiped out her folder structure. She has her own domain name and her email is run through Google's servers because 14 years ago, when any email address was flooded with spam continually, Google had the best filters. She has a 2017 iMac at her standing/sitting desk. Are there going toby roshi - Tips and Deals
pRICE cUBE, The driver is part of what I meant. Our iPhones have such good cameras, why not use them instead of the dinky little things squeezed into the screen? Or some Logitech piece of plastic? I don't know anyone who is using the kinoni driver and do not want to install some possible junk code. I am running Catalina on my MacBook and her iMac is in Mojave - she gets mad at every systemby roshi - Tips and Deals

People are recommending purchasing a $300 or so webcam for use when teaching classes on Zoom, instead of iMac built-in camera. Why not though, just use an iPhone? Have it be an extra administrator. Have any of you done this?by roshi - Tips and Deals

I have several microphones that plug into the lightning port of my iPhone or iPad. The Shure MV88 + seems the best, I like the sound and the free software is good. About $150. It really helps to have a foam cover over the mic or even a fuzzy wind filter. A kit, with a holder, is $250. I also have a Rode, and another one, that has a long cord. They all work well but the MV88 has a bby roshi - Tips and Deals
Apple can reward you for being part of their ecosystem by paying you to recycle the device you just spent a few years - 3 to 5 or 8 years - using. You get a $100 or $200 discount. Quoterich in distress Hey roshi! That’s weird! Are you confident about your system install?... No key logger? Sorry to introduce the kind of stuff you don’t want to deal with. you have a point - the system is acting as if there is a keylogger - but I tweaked the keyboard preferences to Delay until repeat - to SHORT - and I'll see if that fixes it. There are LOTS of Bluetooth things happening around here - 4 feet away is my standing desk with a laptop that also has two Magic Trackpads, and 5 feet away is a Homepod, and then there is my iPhone and I am often listening to podcasts on my Airpods Pro. I would hate to have to go to war against Bluetooth. What causes my keyboard to be suggesting foreign language diacriticals? Those litby roshi - Tips and Deals

How to approach fixing keyboard lag? It is lagging behind my typing, and also offers up foreign characters. She has graduated from all 32 bit apps. And her email is IMAP. She has her own domain name, and a Google Mail account that she pays $50 a year for. The main issue is the interaction between Google's mail servers and Apple Mail on her Mac and iPhone. As far as I can tell. I want to put her into Catalina with all the latest security stuff, but do not want to break anything. Or waste hours anby roshi - Tips and Deals
For myself, I am always in the latest iteration of whatever OS. But for my wife's iMac, I let her stay way way behind the bleeding edge. Mainly because I don't want to have to deal with the problems. Usually something goes wrong with Apple Mail. Her folders do not synchronize or something. Her iMac is in Mojave and I am wondering if there is any advantage to migrating her to Catalina.
