App prob crashed? Sorry, the M1 MBA was the way to go.by jdc - Tips and Deals
Is that from the onion?by jdc - Tips and Deals
Quotedavester What would you suggest? No real recommendation, just making an observation about the superfast drive and USB 2/FW800. Im sure whatever you are doing will work for you.by jdc - Tips and Deals
Quotespace-time Someone has not yet grokked the paradigm shift in RAM usage brought about by Apple Silicon. Im going to guess because they have never been tested with M1 chips to make an informed recommendation.by jdc - Tips and Deals
I think its a limitation of the old case as well. Weird that it wont reformat to its full 6 TB. Any other PC/Mac you can give it a try on? 7200 RPM drive backup via... USB 2? Or FW800? Both interfaces severely limit the speed of that drive... even just for backup.by jdc - Tips and Deals
Dozens of YT videos comparing 13" MBP M1 16 vs 16" MBP intel, with 32 GB don't love this guy, but he does a lot of stuff side by sideby jdc - Tips and Deals
We would have to know what is "this" is first?by jdc - Tips and Deals
QuoteZoidberg Quotespace-time There are engineering/scientific applications where you just need more RAM. I am not talking about consumers. But we arent talking about that. We are talking about MBAs and minis. The absolute lowest end mac you can buy. The notion that the base model will jump from 8/256 to 8/512 or 16/512 is not something that's gonna happen, sorry. we have to throw outby jdc - Tips and Deals
QuoteDennis S Quotespace-time QuoteDennis S It may not work because I'm on system 9.3.5, I'm guessing. iOS 9.3.5? Yes. Can you not upgrade?by jdc - Tips and Deals
The no tax is nice... another $50 savings. $630 is the cheapest I've seen for regular folks + tax.by jdc - Tips and Deals
Quotezachdog More ports, more memory options, and probably better video. In relation to a MBA and mini -- Im gonna say no to the first 2, and of course on the third.by jdc - Tips and Deals
You dont have wifi in your house? so you use ethernet? Wireless rotuers are cheap... maybe $30? mini has an ethernet port, $10 adapter to get it on a MBA. I wouldn't assume many changes in V2. Even if the were totally redesigned the "functionality" would be the same...by jdc - Tips and Deals
Quotetestcase I am NOT an "abnormal" user but still REGULARLY use a DVD drive. I also have and use MULTIPLE USB-A thumb drives, sometimes two said drives SIMULTANEOUSLY. Done.by jdc - Tips and Deals
Quoteka jowct Do you set up albums on your phone? You could set up one for home improvement, and transfer its contents to a similarly named folder on your Mac. was going to ask the same. I go every few days and take photos of my new house being built... after Im done, I just select them, and add to "new house" album. Takes all of 5 seconds. You can also put albums into folders.by jdc - Tips and Deals
Quotep8712 Glad I'm waiting for M2. Don't buy a first gen Apple anything unless you know what you're getting into. Really not that hard to look at the specs, read/watch a few reviews and make an informed decision? magsafe is great... but M1 MBPs can go 20 continuous hours running... with a 53 watt battery. The current 16" MBP has a 99 watt battery -- even if the M chip used 1/3 more pby jdc - Tips and Deals
Im just gonna pile on -- $10 for an external case for that SSD you already have would make all the difference -- its a great iMac. 21.5"? Ram is soldered, cant upgrade...by jdc - Tips and Deals
Quotesekker Cannot run that setup with the latest M1 laptops. True...I didn't know we were discussing M1 laptop options. You could used a display link and 2 non 5K screens -- or pickup a pluggable display dock and get 2 4K screens. 2 good 4K screens (27 or 32") + dock would be well under $1000.by jdc - Tips and Deals
Quoterz QuoteAugust West I've used Super Duper and Carbon Copy Cloner in the past for such tasks. this Ive used all 3... cant say as tho any are "better" than the other. SSD to SSD helps, its much faster, but mostly irrelevant if you are going from the old iMac since its limited to USB 2. Just start migration assistant and let it run.by jdc - Tips and Deals
As Ive stated before... the whole single screen thing doesn't work with my workflow... Id rather have 2 27" LG 5Ks, with true "5K" high resolution...by jdc - Tips and Deals
I mean funny, but lucky that dude didnt have a heart attack and die?by jdc - Tips and Deals
Id just create a new admin account, then delete the others. easier than OS reinstall. I think if its for Zoom... its gonna be nearly unuseable... and pretty sure Facetime is only with later OSes.by jdc - Tips and Deals
Safe from people breaking in and taking it safe, or just safe say, from a fire/flood?by jdc - Tips and Deals
No idea if any of the carriers are still running deals, but for us, it was all about the trade in. our 2 XRs got $800 each, 7 got $380 and 8 $700 = $1980 Applied to 3 new 12welves @ $800 each + 1 12mini@ $700 = $2400 So total outlay was about $650 for 4 new phones.by jdc - Tips and Deals
Im using this lighting to 3.5 mm adapter... 100% flawless, works just like it should They were $9.99 BF, seem to be a lot more now...by jdc - Tips and Deals
Assuming you want it for its "ruggedness"? Would a regular phone with a rugged case work? Note FEs are great...by jdc - Tips and Deals
Perfect for a run to Whole Foods for some kale and kombucha.by jdc - Tips and Deals
I didnt read the article, assuming its gonna be an EV? Hyundai has already been running a fairly stock looking all electric Genesis eG80 around Nurmbring. And I hope this is all just some wild rumor, sounds stupid.by jdc - Tips and Deals
2014 13" MBP with 12/250 GB SSD sitting on my desk right now boots in about 25 seconds to Catalina password screen.by jdc - Tips and Deals
