Here's a little more info. My wife and I both have 16gb phones which aren't a problem when we are at home or work where we use Spotify or songza over wifi. Really the cars are when we are short on music. Neither of our cars have usb slots for thumb drives. I like the idea of the music going through our phone so that we can take advantage of Bluetooth and not have to switch inputs to take a call.by thekingofboggle - Tips and Deals
I am looking at a way to get our whole audio collection available in our cars and have it play through our cell phones. I was thinking about loading the library on to one of those wireless drives and have it always plugged in to be powered by the car whenever the car is on. Has anyone done something like this? is it a pain to reconnect to the drive? is there anything else i am missing?by thekingofboggle - Tips and Deals
right now I have an old airport extreme (flat looking one) as my main router and then a newer airport express (white apple tv looking one) connected wirelessly to use for airplaying audio. In an attempt to improve wifi coverage, I want to upgrade the main router. If i go with a non-apple router (TP-Link Archer C8 AC1750) will i still be able to use airplay on the airport express? I must be missing something obvious here, but I can't figure this out. I bought a new macbook pro and am trying to connect over the network from my old one to my new one. I go into the finder and can see the new macbook pro, but when I type in the name and password, the box wiggles and prompts me to try again. The weird thing is, if I go to my wife's macbook I can login to the new macbook pro. Iby thekingofboggle - Tips and Deals
I have an airport extreme (2nd gen) attached to my modem, then i have an airport express (2nd gen) attached to that via powerline adapter, there is also an airport express (1st gen) in the garage attached wirelessly to the airport extreme. I was going in to airport utility to try and setup a guest network when I noticed that the 2nd gen Airport Express has it's network mode set to "create aby thekingofboggle - Tips and Deals

My 2009 mac mini wouldn't turn on. Apple says it's the logic board and will cost $400 to replace. That seems not worth it as that's about 2/3 the cost of a new one. I was just using this as a HTPC/media server. It was fast enough for that, so I don't think I need to get a newer one. What is the cheapest way to get this machine going again? Is there somewhere i can get a used logic board from andby thekingofboggle - Tips and Deals
Are you not using the original footage because your computer can't handle playing it back or because you want to see the timecode? you can see the timecode of the original clip in the window. Or if you want to use the timecode burned footage, then when you are done you can replace the timecode burned clip in the project panel with the original.by thekingofboggle - Tips and Deals

So trying to switch from an iPhone 5 to a nexus 5. But whenever someone from an iPhone (like my wife) sends me a text message it tries to send it as a imessage (blue) and it fails. I have turned of imessage in my old iPhone and signed out of it on my Mac. Why do iPhones still think I'm still on an iPhone?by thekingofboggle - Tips and Deals
Hello, in an effort to get a better signal on my mohu leaf antenna, I have tried a longer cable which doesn't seem to do as well as the one it shipped with. (the cable i tried was one left over from the cable company, it looked to be decent quality although quite thick). I saw that the mohu brand extension cable can be bought from their site, is there anything special about it or would I get theby thekingofboggle - Tips and Deals
yeah i tried to buy the owc one, but it isn't compatible with my old mbp. system profiler says "This computer doesn't contain any ATA devices. If you installed ATA devices, make sure they're connected and powered on." it's weird because i ordered two and neither of them seem to work, so i wanted to see if there was anything else i needed to do.by thekingofboggle - Tips and Deals
i have a MacBookPro3,1. I bought this hd caddy for the optical bay: i have installed it and the hardrive doesn't show up in the finder or disk utility. I have put back the optical drive and it still works and checked the hard drive in another case and it works. Is there something I am missing to get this working?by thekingofboggle - Tips and Deals
thanks for the tip, but they aren't in the originals folder. i can still see them on her iphone under the photo stream tab. i'm not super familiar with icloud and photo stream. is there away to access the photo stream on a computer?by thekingofboggle - Tips and Deals
My wife wanted me to take all of the photos off of her iphone and put them on her computer. So i opened up image capture and with "delete after import" checked and "import to iphoto" selected, i hit import all. after about 5 minutes, all of the photos from image capture disapeared and now iphoto has been suck on "preparing to import" for a while. So we have two map pro nehalem computers that have just recently had this happen within two weeks of each other. The machine will be working fine and then it just shuts down and the front power led (white) glows and inside under the first hard drive, two red leds are lit. the top two of the column of leds. the text next to the lights read "OVTMP CPUA" and "OVTMP CPUB". does thby thekingofboggle - Tips and Deals
The queenofboggle wants us to have an alarm system. I really like the Lowe's Iris system (we want to pay for a monitoring service). Lowes.ca says they don't have access to the product and it doesn't show up on their website. If i can find a way to get a system up north, will it still be able to send notifications? (it uses your internet connection to send event notifications). Or will it somehowby thekingofboggle - Tips and Deals
I am in the market for something similar. I found the Lowe's Iris system to fit the criteria, unfortunately not available in Canada (where i live). I'd be interested to see if there are any other suggestionsby thekingofboggle - Tips and Deals
Thanks so much everyone for all your info, I am following up on some options suggested here, but I came up with another idea: we have a 7300gt in our xserve that we swiped from a mac pro when the xserve's video card died. what if we take the 7300gt back out of the xserve and use it in the mac pro and then find a replacement card for the xserve? what cards are compatible with the original intel xsby thekingofboggle - Tips and Deals
we have two of the original intel macpros that both video cards died in. they originally had 7300 gt cards in them, but we can't seem to find a cheap source for those. (ebay for about $200 seems to be the cheapest). is there another card we can put in instead? i saw something saying they were picky about the cards they would accept. it doesn't need to be something super powerful, just something tby thekingofboggle - Tips and Deals
I really like this quad lock case that I got. The case comes with mounts that it connects to. I don't think they have have a window mount but I used the sticky-back all purpose mount to mount it next to the radio in my car and really thinks its great and unobtrusive.by thekingofboggle - Tips and Deals
I bought one of these for my honda element. I ran it behind the dashboard and had it come out close to the stereo (elements have the aux in and 12v power by the glove box). it works great and charges too. just find a mount to hold your iphone where you want it. i used something called a quad lock. ipod to usb and 3.5mmby thekingofboggle - Tips and Deals
I have a mac mini (the older kind with dvi and no hdmi) that I am trying to hook up to my panasonic plasma (st30). I don't think they are broken off to be controlled by a switch (although that might be the case), as I understand it, the tabs are broken off to split the top and bottom outlet to different circuits.by thekingofboggle - Tips and Deals
I have been going through updating all of our lights and outlets to new white ones and all has been going good. I just finished the kitchen outlets and I realized that I forgot to check to see if the tabs had been broken off and match that on the new ones. I looked at the old outlets and some of them have the tab broken, some don't - but I don't know which ones came from where. Is there an easy wby thekingofboggle - Tips and Deals

i have my mbp backing up via time machine to a drive attached to my mac mini (on the same network). I wanted to upgrade my mbp's hard drive so i bought a new drive renamed it with "750" at the end of the name, and carbon copy cloned the mbp's internal drive to it. now when time machine tries to backup it fails. It's for our Xserve. We got it in 2006. We have been having some problems with the cooling in the server room. I shut it down for a while to see about reseating the video card. There certainly was a lot of dust in there. The reseat didn't help at all. DRR, is the overheating-induced artifacting that you are talking about a temporary or permanent issue?
