Should have added that mine was on a fresh M1 Mac Mini. The Top Sites did not download to it from iCloud. However, when I did the upgrade to Big Sur on my 2015 MacBook Pro, they did pop up (I upgraded over the top of Mojave).by celliott - Tips and Deals
This may be old news. I've searched everywhere for an answer to the fact that Top Sites do not show up on the start page for Safari 14. I just updated my 1025 MacBook Pro to Big Sur and was disappointed (apparently along with many) at the downgrade of that feature. Here's what I did. I went to one of my other Macs that was still using Safari 13 (if you still have a back up of your previous OSby celliott - Tips and Deals
No 2FA. I also didn't get an email, just the system message. I decided to go to my Manage Apple ID page on the Apple site. Tried to sign in and got the same message. It asked for answers to my security questions (not 2FA) and then gave me an Unlock button. Pressed it and all seems back to normal. Didn't have to change my password. I have no idea what happened to get me here. I upgraded my phoby celliott - Tips and Deals
I need to add. these are not emails. These are system messages when I try to access the Messages app, iCloud, etc.by celliott - Tips and Deals
Woke up this morning and can't do anything Apple related. Can't use the store, messages, etc. I get a message saying "Apple ID locked. Your Apple ID has been locked for security reasons. To unlock it, you must verify your identity." When I click on the "Unlock Account" button I am given 2 choices: "Select how you want to unlock your account - Reset by email. I would add that I have already restarted several times along with turning off Messages and MMS in the settings app and turning them back on several times. I just can't figure out why they are still on other devices and not my phone.by celliott - Tips and Deals
I have an iPhone X running iOS 14.2. Today, for no known reason 3 people I have an ongoing history of messaging, all on iPhones also, had their entire threads disappear. When I went to message one of them today, it was as though we'd never messaged before. I found two others the same way. 2 of those people I had already messaged several times earlier today. Now, no existing thread. Strange thiby celliott - Tips and Deals
Rolando- I agree. Unfortunately I was away on a trip and staying at a motel. Didn't have my Apple TV box with me- so straight from iPad to TV using the HDMI adapter.by celliott - Tips and Deals
Thanks for the info. Found it. I haven’t used my iPad for movies in a long time. I missed that transition. Now I have another problem. I’m trying to stream my purchased movies from my iPad to a Samsung tv via HDMI and an hdmi adaptor. I now get the message that the attached display can’t play protected videos. Come on Apple. But I can go to my Amazon account and play movies from my Prime acby celliott - Tips and Deals
I’m dying here. I cannot figure out how to play my purchased iTunes movies on my iPad. Used to be a videos app, then tv app. I don’t see either of those on my iPad . When I used the iTunes Store app, I see my movie, when I click on it it tells me to download the tv app from the App Store. But the App Store doesn’t find a tv app or a Apple video app. I’m getting old, I miss things. Whatby celliott - Tips and Deals
I'm not using it, but my bank warned me that if I updated to Safari 14 that their site would not work. They recommended staying with what I have or switching browsers- ie. Chrome. I'm not making the move. I'm on Mojave (resisting Catalina).by celliott - Tips and Deals
Thanks Sarcany and hal for the tip.I'll give that a shot.by celliott - Tips and Deals
I'm using one job. I am not using safety net. That might be a mistake, but that's the way I currently have it set up. What happened is that I backed up the drive and misplaced the drive, so I grabbed a different one, used the same name and backed it up again, a few weeks later. I then found the other drive but they are identical drives- so after a few weeks (I just had bypass surgery), I wantby celliott - Tips and Deals
I've searched multiple places but can't find the answer. I have two drives used to backup my MBP using Carbon Copy Cloner. They were backed up at different time. How can I find out which one contains the latest backup?by celliott - Tips and Deals
My wife has been using an old 6s and wants a new SE. Verizon career. We're going to pay in full with the order- no monthly payment. Well, I reinstalled Mojave. Didn't help anything. I then removed the PCI SSD card in my office Mac Pro 5,1. It's a different brand than the Apricorn Velocity Solo x2. This one is a Sedna PCI Express (PCIe) SATA III (6G) SSD Adapter (also from Amazon). Guess what? It worked. The problem apparently was the card not working with the Option key. Thanks to all who helped me trouble shoot this one.by celliott - Tips and Deals
I'm stumped. This is the second GPU. The seller shipped me a second one in case there was a problem with it. Same exact situation. Anyway to rebuild the Mojave EFI? I admit, I'm into some tech, but not necessarily with that level. I'm willing to investigate and learn, just don't know where to start.by celliott - Tips and Deals
MrNoBody- Thanks for the questions. Sorry, I was away from the Mac and couldn't do the research you had asked. In answer to your questions: 1. At the time of the experiment to see if the option key worked after doing the firmware update, there were no bootable drives on the SATA-II bus. When I put everything back together and tried again, the only bootable drive was the SSD on the PCI card.by celliott - Tips and Deals
JoeH- your tip work great. I got the installers I needed. I ended up installing High Sierra on an external drive and booted from it with everything else removed- all internal drives, my USB 3 PCI card and my PCI Mojave PCI boot drive. When it booted, I downloaded the Mojave installer and proceeded with the "upgrade". The installer reported that I needed the firmware upgraded, so I weby celliott - Tips and Deals

Thanks, Joe. I did a search but missed that one somehow. Much appreciated.by celliott - Tips and Deals
Thanks, Joe. So many hoops to jump through just to get what should easily be accessible if Apple trusted us enough to make our own decisions on what we need.by celliott - Tips and Deals
This question is related to an issue I am dealing with in a thread down a few regarding a Mac Pro 5,1 firmware update. Since some people won't read that one, I started this new thread concerning OS installer files. So, anyone know where I can get an installer for Mojave. Apple seems to be playing hide and seek with this stuff. I'm currently running Mojave but want to reinstall it on another drby celliott - Tips and Deals
So, anyone know where I can get an installer for Mojave. Apple seems to be playing hide and seek with this stuff. I'm going to install Mojave onto another disk to see if I can get the firmware updated. Assuming I can locate a Mojave installer, should I just do an install on the drive, or should I first install High Sierra on the drive and then do an update on it to Mojave to try to catch the fby celliott - Tips and Deals
Thanks Peter, that sounds like a good possibility. I will give that a try and see what happens.by celliott - Tips and Deals
So, I've been running Mojave for some time now but have some boot problems raise it's head recently. I did some checking and it appears that the firmware on my Mac Pro 5,1 did not update when I went to Mojave. I am running Mojave (and the previous OS from which I upgraded to Mojave) on an SSD attached to an OWC PCIe card. I don't know if that is the cause or not. Anyway, I checked my firmwareby celliott - Tips and Deals
PC video card is gone, only the flashed card. There is no menu bar to select drives or even choose network.I know what that looks like- I did the option boot on my MBP. Worked fine there. I already tried it without the external drive. Should still get the drive option start up screen (like I did on the MBP). All I get is the white screen and the mouse cursor with or without the external drive.by celliott - Tips and Deals
Nothing happens when I get to the white screen. The only way out of it is to hit the power button for a forced power down. No drive options show up.by celliott - Tips and Deals
Ooops. Thanks for mentioning that Robert. I am using a wired Apple extended keyboard.by celliott - Tips and Deals
Well, I want to boot from either Mojave on an internal SSD or Sierra on an attached HD. I can use the startup disk option in System Preferences to select the Sierra disk while in Mojave, but I can't select Mojave from the Sierra startup disk option because the Sierra OS can't see the APFS formatted drive. So, I figured I could just hold down the option key on startup to select my operating sysby celliott - Tips and Deals
