billb, I was just trying to offer advice to the OP based on personal experience. I didn't expect to be hit over the head by you with "If you're as well traveled as you claim..." What happened to forum decorum - and this is a rhetorical comment so doesn't bother to respond thank you.by yeoman - Tips and Deals

QuoteRgrF QuoteOnamuji QuoteGuyGene I used to like the olympics. You don't like them anymore? They seem so much more entertaining these days. Much more drama. Like a lot of things today, they're just too monetarized. What might actually work would be to build a permanent Olympic Village and attendant stadia in Greece and let the athletes have at it every four years. If TV ratings are tby yeoman - Tips and Deals
I prefer farm raised trout to sockey. Less dense, less "filling", less "in your face" taste. Available year round. YMMV.by yeoman - Tips and Deals

I previously reported that I have been making a concerted effort to report to Spamcop.net all spam that is filtered by spamsieve. Whether this actually works is hard to prove but I can say my spam is down to a handful a week.by yeoman - Tips and Deals
Thanks for the list. Yeah...Waking Ned Devine. Great movie. I'll check out some of the others.by yeoman - Tips and Deals
LG changed their name for a reason. Used to be called Lucky Gold Star. I guess you're out of Luck. Sorry for your hassle with the ac.by yeoman - Tips and Deals
Speed sending is 90mbps, receiving is 50mbps. Is this adequate?by yeoman - Tips and Deals
I cut the cord a long time ago. We live north in summer (condo) and south in winter (house). We don’t subscribe to cable when south so rely on antenna for OTA networks and watch cable by logging in to our northern Xfinity/Comcast account and view via computer. Due to recent changes in our condo association bylaws high speed internet and full HD cable is now always active (with no opt out and 12by yeoman - Tips and Deals
Terrible, terrible. If it helps, there'a a truly heartbreaking fictional story "Still Alice" based on facts written by Lisa Genova, a professional. Worth reading to understand the implications. I can relate.by yeoman - Tips and Deals
Quotemrbigstuff Dash cam. Get two. I have a second pointing back because I've been rear ended twice, in slow speed traffic congestion, by drivers texting. The cost of a dash cam pails in comparison with the hassle of dealing with insurance even if I'm blameless. Got the first dash cam after my wife was backed into by an elderly driver. She was assessed 10% of the responsibility (and cost) deby yeoman - Tips and Deals
Quotecbelt3 Range extenders work reasonably well. I've used them. From a systemic perspective, I tend to prefer to hook up two base stations, one as a router / access point, the other as an access point, and connect them with an ethernet backbone. That design is more durable. But given 802.11 ac, performance usually isn't a problem. Although once we get gigabit wifi, people will start to get fby yeoman - Tips and Deals

I spoke too soon. Flood of nasty Amazon lookalike shipping notices to social email addresses. Senders based in Iran, Vietnam. I guess someone's contact/recipient list was harvested.by yeoman - Tips and Deals
A few months ago I had to do something about ever increasing spam so I installed Avira and bought Spamsieve. These two combine to filter spam and quarantine junk. This works well but I still have to do a quick eyeball scan of Spamsieve’s folder. So I decided to report every spam to spamcop.net. I don’t know whether my roughly 20 email addresses have been flagged by bots as a honey trap or perby yeoman - Tips and Deals
Thanks to all for suggestions. We considered metro to Silver Spring and also airport but since we're tight for time we booked an hotel near GWU. Maybe when we're driving we can spend more time and commute in.by yeoman - Tips and Deals
We have Southwest coupons and miles soon to expire so we booked a flight to Washington DC. We then started looking for an hotel somewhere central for just one night. Wow - prices are $$$. We just need a place to sleep, in a safe area and walking distance from the "attractions", nothing fancy. Since we won't have a car we would like to be within walking distance of a Metro, the Mall. Yes, I disabled not just Safari extensions listed in Safari Prefs but also Internet Plugins. I don't think this is a factor in the issue because the same "network abnormal" also occurs in iCab OS X and Safari iOS. I give up. At least I can login with Firefox. And thanks Onamuji for thinking about this.by yeoman - Tips and Deals
Yep, done those things - no flash, no https (not for this initial setup), plugins all up to date. Just a weird error message. I'm OK with it because I can still access using Firefox but I'd sure like to understand the underlying cause.by yeoman - Tips and Deals
I’m hoping there's a Safari guru somewhere out there in MacResourceland who can shed light on a weird problem. Background: I have multiple IPcams from various manufacturers and over the years have routinely configured using Safari, that is until now. I got a new IPcam and began the usual setup with Safari, logging in with default Admin, then added a restricted Operator user. I logged out but whby yeoman - Tips and Deals
