billb, I was just trying to offer advice to the OP based on personal experience. I didn't expect to be hit over the head by you with "If you're as well traveled as you claim..." What happened to forum decorum - and this is a rhetorical comment so doesn't bother to respond thank you.

I previously reported that I have been making a concerted effort to report to Spamcop.net all spam that is filtered by spamsieve. Whether this actually works is hard to prove but I can say my spam is down to a handful a week.

A few months ago I had to do something about ever increasing spam so I installed Avira and bought Spamsieve. These two combine to filter spam and quarantine junk. Yes, I disabled not just Safari extensions listed in Safari Prefs but also Internet Plugins. I don't think this is a factor in the issue because the same "network abnormal" also occurs in iCab OS X and Safari iOS. I give up. At least I can login with Firefox. And thanks Onamuji for thinking about this.

Yep, done those things - no flash, no https (not for this initial setup), plugins all up to date. Just a weird error message. I'm OK with it because I can still access using Firefox but I'd sure like to understand the underlying cause.

I presume all the files you want to batch change are selectable. Cmmd+Option+I will open multiple item info. Change "open with" for just those files.
