is it redundant to get something with a SD card reader and a few other things one wouldn't use? That price tag is steep.. is there a better option. What, exactly, is a "pass through" hub? Is there a more affordable price point for something that will also charge the machine vs. just a peripheral expansion?

last I was active here, I worked for a much sh!ttier school. Super Anti-mac. I've since changed employers. I sent a list of 3 machines to them after doing the above post, progressively lower in price. They responded within 30 seconds saying, "you're getting this one" and linked to the top option. Very different public sector experience. They manage their $ and people well here.

I think the 14" is a nice in between size for me and isn't too big. I looked at all my typical apps, and it appears everything comes in 64 bit. Hi Folks, Was active here back in the before kids days...not so much anymore. So, i'm hoping the collective wisdom of the group can help me shortcut my research process. My employer is offering to buy me a laptop. They're not flush with cash or anything (public sector), so they asked that I approach them with a low cost option and the "ideal" option. Greetings, Ok, this doesn't google well so apologies if it's so simple...but in Big Sur Messages..when sending a text, i have to hit enter 2x to send which inserts an additional line in the message. Doesn't happen every time...just frequently. No idea why. Anybody? Just me?

weird. Connection doctor says SMTP is connected, but failed with IMAP. just got this error: READ Aug 20 10:10:17.868 -- host:imap.gmail.com -- port:993 -- socket:0x6000075d5bc0 -- thread:0x600004adf1c0 9.2887 NO IMAP access is disabled for your domain. So, I was able to get my new job to convince the PZ Nazi tech folks to enable IMAP, etc. access for my account. Worked great for a couple of weeks. Then, it stopped a couple weeks ago and hasn't worked since. I still have calendar access, which is weird. Doesn't appear I have contacts access. I've tried deleting the account in both outlook and mail and adding it back and no dice. Just giv

another update...they pretty much are refusing to enable the IMAP feature to allow email client access. They are citing a need for a 'policy change'. I have told them that I would require no support - just access. They claim there would be additional costs involved (?). They guy I spoke to was unaware if, in the g-suite, one can enable IMAP on a user by user basis.

update....I was able to log into the domain and now have wifi access. However, big pushback when asking to get outlook or mail.app set up. "this may violate the terms of our support contract with the school". Keep in mind I've been very clear that, once allowed access, I will require no support from them. The boss still wants them to do it, but, man, are they freaking out. I also

yes, i'm going to connect with the other mac user and see what's up. yes, there is no ability to put in an app password in mojave when setting up a gmail account. I am using the current version of mojave.

I like having all my email in one place (multiple accounts which, strangely, are all gmail now but others are personal) and seamless with my mac.
