Right after we bought this house (about 15 years ago), we had someone from the gas company come in and replace the electric furnace, hot water heater, and cooking stove with gas. I was going to convert to a gas dryer, too, but the guy who was doing all the work said he didn't even have a gas dryer in his own home. He didn't like the idea of flames and lint cooped up together in the same place,

I had another thought, which I should have mentioned earlier. Do you have any private no-kill groups in your area? We adopted Louie from one, and the advantage was that he was being fostered in a private home. He'd been with the woman for about three weeks, and she was able to give us a lot of good information about his temperament and the way he interacted with people, children, and other ani

I Googled the Glen if Imaal Terrier, and they sure are cute little devils. I copied this, though, because this might not be exactly what you need! (My apologies for the copy/paste, and I apologize if this is violating copyright.)
What "Sit" Means
A Border Collie will sit because you told them to.
With Glens they rationalize and philosophise everything.

I agree wholeheartedly with those who advise against getting a dog if you can't have a fenced area for it. A friend of mine did successfully train her two dogs to stay within the boundaries of an electric fence, but that only addressed the issue of keeping her dogs in. Other dogs running loose in the 'hood entered at will, and these other dogs weren't always very friendly. They probably wouldn

So just how practical is this in the real world? Computer geeks who love a challenge can do all kinds of "magical" things that us mere mortals can't manage. Does running Win XP on an Intel Mac fit into that category?
I keep a Dell around here for just two things - using a set of CDs I need that run on Windows only and for an older slide scanner with no Mac drivers. I'd upgrade one

Have those 5 siblings do it, if it means that much to them! I agree with everyone else that a first birthday party is for the adults. My most cherished pictures of my son's first birthday are those that chronicle the "eating" of his own cake. Priceless. Heck, I barely remember who else was there and don't feel the least bad about it. Just have somebody bring a dog to help clean up

Statistics is (as you know) very complex. Do you have any idea what aspect of it you'll be tested on? I can't imagine how anyone could come up with a down and dirty study guide that covered enough of everything to do anybody any good. Are there any sample questions from the exam? If so, finding out what those are would be helpful.

Check out the Hoovers. I had two Bissels that died prematurely (a year and two cleanings!) because parts broke, so I sure didn't buy a third. I do like the Hoover I got, although I purposely bought one of the lighter weight models since there's no strong guy around here to manage it for me. I'm happy with the way it cleans, though. The Hoover site has good information on the features of each

Oh, shoot, shadow. Are you spoiling my fun again? OK.
Except you have to understand THINKING about these kinds of things is a lot of fun, even though the ones that sound like they'd be the most entertaining are the least likely to ever happen. Heck, her sister and I were thinking of little zingers, like "Has Ethel introduced you to her probation officer yet? No? Oh, well what abo

This young man's dietary preferences are not what's ticking me off. He can choose to eat (or not eat) anything he wants. I was annoyed because I didn't learn about these preferences until two days after I'd agreed to welcome him

Thanks everybody. This will work out, and it will also wind up becoming a learning experience for some little university coed I know.
But if the guy starts to lecture at the dinner table...
(And thanks for letting me vent, too.)

A 21 year old non-relative (university student) has been included in holiday celebrations at our house for the last several years. She asked on Saturday if it would be OK if her new boyfriend came for Easter dinner. She's invited other guys in the past, so I said that would be fine. THEN, last night, by e-mail, she gives me the "little detail" that this guy eats no foods that contain

This is a 2001 movie (didn't get great reviews) with Nicholas Cage and Penelope Cruz. It was on TNT, USA, or one of those cable networks yesterday afternoon. I spent almost two hours watching it while I was working around in the kitchen, and then I got company and didn't see how it ended. Anybody else see it and remember? I can probably guess, since one of the criticisms was that it was "

Well, and then there's always the chance that the person I bought it from (at PowerMax) didn't have a clue. The sticker says it's a Rev B/360 watt. There were no replacements for those, right? I guess it sounds as good as it'll get.
I've looked into Verax fans, but I'm not sure I want to put that much money into it. I'll just keep dusting it and saving pennies for a new computer.

How can I tell which power supply is in my dual gig MDD? I bought it refurbished, and I was told the mod had been done by Apple during the refurb process. I'm really suspicious, though, because that thing is really, really loud - so loud that I find myself resisting going in and turning it on to use it. It hasn't been used in weeks, which is a total waste.

I sure wish I wasn't "insert picture" challenged. Both the spot healing brush and the healing brush are available in PSE 3.0 for the Mac. The best I could figure out how to do was post a screen shot to Pixentral, showing where they're located in the Toolbar. (I hope anyway - I won't know until I hit Post.)
Personally, I'm not at all unhappy that Adobe hasn't included the e

I'm reading a PDF that was put out by Adobe comparing the two versions for the Mac. According to it, the healing brush is still in 4.0, but it indicates the tool is unchanged. PSE 3.0 features that were enhanced are noted as being enhanced; this one simply shows as available in both versions.
If you want a copy of the PDF, PM me, although the thread has already hit the highlights.

I didn't want one either, until last night when I was wondering how much yarn I had in a ball I'd just rolled. It occurred to me I'd be able to figure it out if I had one of those nifty USB scales. I'm trying NOT to go to RS today and buy one. How often does a person really need to weigh a ball of yarn?
