I personally ignore them, but posts such as the ones now being discussed are the only reason why I don't recommend this forum to Mac users who need help. It's not as rowdy as the "other" place could get sometimes, but some of the topics make it kind of hard to take this place seriously as a good support forum, which, of course, all of us regulars know that it is. I'd also just as soon

Adobe just released Elements 4.0 for the Mac. The older versions had some really great Quick Fix options, and they're probably even better in this new one. It would be really easy for her to do some basic touchup work to the old pics without having to dive head first into the whole Photoshop thing. Get her an easy to use flatbed scanner and let her start. My recommendation is that the origina

I second trying the price match. I shop at Fred Meyer, which is owned by Kroger. They matched the Costco price on one drug I take that isn't run through the mail order service for my drug coverage.

Thanks everybody. I'm off, and I'll see what good old Safeway has, because that's the only choice this time. I'm bookmarking the thread, because I now recognize a couple that I remember from years past. Heck, I might even get curious and taste some of this stuff.

I don't drink wine, but I'm having some people over tomorrow and want to get a white wine to offer them. Knowing this group, they'll have some before the food is served and drag the remnants to the table. (Fine with me.) The meal will have an oriental flare, if that makes any difference at all.
Would someone please guide me? (Fairly soon, 'cause I've got to go to the store yet this after

Another vote for MacJanitor. Onyx is OK, too, but I have heard that Cocktail offers some "additional features" that have done more harm than good if people weren't careful. I also do the repair permissions thing before and after installations, and I've never (yet) had to use Disk Warrior, Tech Tools, or any other third party utility app. I've got a year in on this install of Panther

Well, who wants to count 'em? There were 381 names on the list back in December.
Somewhere in January, someone posted that we were up to 525, or thereabouts.
OK, so I just flopped the above list in Excel and see there are now roughly 634. I say "roughly", but that's high; little ol' Microchip13 is registered multiple times, and there's no way to tell how many others have d

Way to go!! Does this qualify you for a Carnegie award of some kind? It should. Maybe I'll even renew my library card, in your honor.

Thanks for the recommendation, because I really have to start a few painting jobs around here. Isn't Behr sold by Home Depot?

I just got AppleCare on this 17" PB (LAComputer for $259 I think.) I had the same kind of debate with myself, but I finally decided on the AC because this one is a refurb. I had an extra year of coverage through my credit card when I bought my Pismo new; it needed a new hard drive at age 13 months, but Amex covered it. For a $700 iBook, I'd self insure like you're considering. Frankly I'

Move the couch. Seriously, you'll never get that area looking like the rest of the carpet again, because you're seeing excessive wear, too.

Doesn't the car you're buying already have an alarm system? I looked at the KARR site, and I don't see anything listed there as a standard feature that's different from the security system that came with my 2001 Highlander. Upgrades will give you remote start, some kind of "shock" thing, and a couple of other items that seem more like convenience features instead of additional securit

There have been two recently, and the description you give sounds to me more like Leap.A than Inqtana. It's a good thing I'm not the IT person.

I think he's asking why there's such a surge in the problems associated with mold, and why there are some homes that are having to be torn down and rebuilt because of it. I think it has to do with gradual changes over time in building materials and building standards. Some of the "new" building products are more conducive to mold growth, and energy standards are also encouraging the r

It's haunted; that's the only logical conclusion. Nothing I did helped until I went to another computer and cleared out a bunch of print jobs that this computer said didn't even exist.

I'm glad that's your project and not mine! Take a look at QPict. There's a demo, so you could download it and see if there's a way to make it do what you want.

It's "fixed", but I'm not sure why. I moved to a different computer, and the printer worked properly from it. When I came back and ordered a print from this one, it worked fine, too. Ah, the mysteries of computers.

I have a Canon iP6000D that is insisting all jobs are stopped, and I can't get it to resume printing. The options to Resume, Delete, Hold, etc. are all grayed out. Any ideas? I'm thinking of dumping the pref and .plist for it out my my user library, but I haven't done that yet. Opinions?
How frustrating.

The TV, the DVD player, and the cable box were all plugged into the same surge protector. The box is the only thing not working properly, and I asked the tech support guy why it died and the other stuff

Thank you! I've been thinking about this for a while, so maybe this is a good time to upgrade, since they have to come out anyway. All three of the major network affiliates around here broadcast in HD, so maybe I can find something to watch. I suppose the worst that happens is I'll have them come and take it back. I'm sure I waste more than $60 a year on other junk anyway.

My digital box got fried yesterday when the power came back on after being off for 13 hours, and Comcast will be coming out Monday to replace it. It's a digital cable box, but it is not the one for high def. The TV is HDTV ready. Do I want to upgrade? What, if any, are the benefits to going to the high definition? I think it's an extra $5 a month, which wouldn't break the piggy bank, but I w

Louie wouldn't even TASTE it. He walked up to the bowl and sniffed at it, then he backed up about three paces and glared at me like he thought I was trying to poison him. Then he turned around and went to the doorway and glared at me some more. I had to throw out the whole bowl of food and start over. At least he tasted the celery before he decided to spit it out!
