Why would anyone use a "full service" broker? The extra service they are talking about are the more commissions to themselves that they generate by churning your investments. Every financial advice book or website I have ever read has indicated that you should run away from these salesmen as fast as you can.

Valentine's Day has become far too overwrought. It's supposed to be for secret lovers, not everybody in the universe. Fer chrissake, it's more of a Hallmark retailer's "rake in the bucks" day than anything else. Ignore all that ridiculous advertising and get a life.

Is there any real technical reason for "nuke and pave"? It seems horrendously time consuming to me and I've never had a problem with "archive and install". Here are instructions on how to do it:

From what I've heard the "archive and install" method is much better than the "upgrade" method. It puts a clean copy of the new system on your disk and saves the old system in an "old system" folder. That's what I did...worked like a charm.

Doesn't work for me. 5' 10" medium build lists 182.5 as my max ideal weight. I've been 180 before and it was NOT GOOD. My blood pressure was a bit too high at that weight also, and as we all should know, high BP and overweight go hand in hand. 175 is as high as I can go and still be able to engage in fairly vigorous physical activity without strain. 170 is close to ideal and the chart lis

This "don't buy rev A" stuff is not based on reality. If you check out lowendmac's "road apples" you'll find that they are distributed amongst both "rev A" models and established lines. The two best computers I've ever owned have been rev A new processor models...my 6100 (first PowerPC model) and my beige g3/266 (first g3 model), both bought right after introductio

Ethanol derived from corn does produce more energy used in producing it (but not by a large margin) but co2 emissions using ethanol are not that much different. However, using cellulosic forms of ethanol is much more sustainable in this regard than using corn (a disappointment to all those farm state legislators I'm sure). Here are some recent background articles:

I don't think it was ever "in style", but it was affordable. I'm guessing that with the expansion of Walmart-style use of dirt cheap foreign labor and cheap nonsustainable wood products, it is no longer necessary to use plastic to achieve low prices.

Hmmm. They don't look that good to me, but I'd have to see the original slides to know whether it is the originals or the dupes that are the problem. On the tree picture, there are some pretty severe brightness changes in the sky near the edges/corners. They also didn't crop it properly on the top left edge. Both slides look looks pretty washed out overall, especially the tree picture. Is this

I had the same issue when I first hooked up my replay. Sorry to say but that was a long time ago and I forgot the exact solution, though I believe the solution involved opening ports on the router. I would strongly suggest that you post this question, along with the brand/model of your router at . That's where I got all my questions answered.

Yeah, the song was about strip mining but I thought Peabody Coal did both (though their notoriety is primarily for strip mining).

Then the coal company came, with the world's largest shovel,
And they tortured the timber and stripped all the land.
Well, they dug for their coal till the land was forsaken.
Then they wrote it all down as the progress of man.
And Daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg county,
Down by the Green River, where Paradise lay.
"Well I'm sorry, my son, but you're too late in askin'."

While the potential for asbestos impacts from encapsulated asbestos has been overstated in many cases by unqualified laymen, your statement is false. Asbestos is a significant cause of lung cancer and mesothelioma. I

From reading the comments here it appears that many people are under the major misconception that google earth and similar services use satellite imagery. This is true only for the low resolution high altitude shots.
When you zoom in, you are looking at mosaiced air photos taken on a variety of different dates, NOT satellite imagery. Publicly available satellite imagery is not available at

If you can get it in your area, use Air Krete. It uses inert mineral ingredients, fills like foam, has high insulating value, and is absolutely not flammable. We had our house done with it during a remodel. With the studs exposed, they stapled up plastic window screens across the studs, and sprayed the shaving cream like substance through the screen then waited for it to dry before putting up s

Bear in mind that your local lab will almost certainly send your slides out to have done elsewhere, and they will cost a lot if they do it in house and it is not their main business (plus, their quality will likely be poor because they won't have the latest equipment and trained color correction specialists. If you feel nervous shipping your slides, do it in a few shipments to minimize the chanc

I'm going through this process myself right now. It will take you forever to scan that many slides and your results will probably not be that great. I'm going to have mine done by a professional service. At 50/cents per slide for professional quality scans they are a bargain. Here are the two services I'm considering:
