By the way, you might want to try ordering a few of these to see if they work for you. They are vastly cheaper than all the other systems and there have been some positive reviews on them at the That Home Site forums.

I did a lot of research on this topic because we have large redwoods that tower over our house and drop vast amounts of debris on the roof. The second type (with the slot) can have serious problems with stuff getting in and being difficult to clean out. I've seen a number of pictures of grass growing out through the slot. I've read good things about the alcoa Leaf Relief product.

I don't know why you're wasting time and money on the battery. There's nothing in your discussion to indicate that there is anything wrong with it and it might be good for several more years yet. Take it in and get a free battery test before wasting any money buying an unneeded battery. Taking a shotgun approach and replacing parts willy nilly NEVER works in my experience.

If it was the battery or corroded battery terminals, the interior lights would dim when the clickety click sound occurred. If they are unaffected then it is another problem. It could be a bad engine ground, or bad starter connections but then the starter would have slowed down. The clickety click sound is almost certainly the solenoid. So, you probably have a bad solenoid.

No they don't, and never have. The automatic feature is referred to simply as Commercial Advance (a registered trademark). There is nothing referred to as CA on the 55xx series, manual or otherwise.

No, the TiVo doesn't win. The Replay still has far superior in-show

Elmo, what is wrong with you? Instead of make a minor correction to my post, you lather on the insults, and throw up a giant smokescreen, replete with your own errors. ReplayTV terminology for the automatic feature is CA or Commercial Advance. The 55xx models do NOT have CA. However, I had forgotten that they added the manual commercial skip function (referred to them as show/nav I believe, NO

No. TiVo never had commercial filtering. ReplayTVs prior to the current model had automatic commercial filtering (known as Commercial Advance or CA). The current models (55xx models) only have manual 30 second skip. The CA models are the 50xx and 45xx models. The best strategy is to try to pick up a used or refurbed 50xx (i.e. 5040, 5080, 5160, etc)...these are identical to the 55xx models e

ReplayTV is better. Search back through the forum for discussions of why. Unfortunately, you'll have to buy a used one (because ReplayTV is switching over to a software/mediaPC model), though these are easy to find on craigslist and on . ...and yes, many folks still think it is still well worth getting the ReplayTV even though the box has been discontinued.

What a laugh! Who do you suppose the "they" in "they say" is? Marketing, marketing, marketing.

Interesting take on Excel by Zoidberg. I can understand how people in nontechnical fields would have little use for a spreadsheet, but I work in the scientific and engineering fields and my work would grind to a halt without a sophisticated calculation, data manipulation and graphing solution like Excel. I do think it is sad that Quattro Pro (arguably better than Excel in many ways a decade ago

It's absurd that we have to jump through such hoops. A similar hoop exists for iPhoto and iTunes users who have multiple users on their computers.

The Pianist was a wow.
I also thought Chronicles of Narnia was a wow, in a mega hollywood production kind of way.

Fantastic show. Another great show in the same vein is junkyard wars (especially the early brit version. Unfortunately, it seems to have been discontinued, though there are plenty of reruns out there.

Looks like we're lagging behind the predictions. We aren't really much further along than the neXt computer they were discussing as an example of best available technology at the time.

Plus...why on earth would the thief even be doing this, since it would be highly unlikely that they would know what the heck was wrong with the computer.

I hear that the Plan C (an additional $29.95 fee) has your laptop sprout legs and walk home using the integral GPS system to find its way.

Yup, they're ridiculously priced compared to buying an iPod and getting an iPod to stereo interface. Also, the iPod is way easier to synch with your computer.

Here ya go, a review of the two best 37" plasma and lcd TVs, side-by-side.
The plasma is cheaper with a slightly better picture but burns more energy and will eventually fade. The LCD will likely last longer and has a real nice picture, but not as good as the plasma. A toss up between the two IMHO.

You can pick up batteries cheaper than the OWC price. I've seen them for as low as $16. Bear in mind that the 2g iPod has an issue with the headphone jack coming loose from the motherboard after a few years...evidence of this is static sounds in the headphones when you wiggle the headphone plug. This costs around $75 to fix.

You've run across the automatic inanity detector (AID). Haven't you noticed that you don't run across posts from shakeman and furious styles in the main forum. This indicates that the AID is operational. You need to ramp up the intellectual level of your posts so they will pass through the AID filtering algorithms.

One more thing. Once you turn the breaker off, check the circuit to make sure it is off. After you do that, CHECK IT AGAIN to make sure it is off. Then, when you are working on the switch, behave as though the circuit is still live (because it might be).

I would never use greenboard in any area where things might get wet (i.e. a tub/shower surround...a disaster waiting to happen. Use durock/wonderboard cement backer board instead...and no, you should not prime it. Also, make sure that the backer board does not come down and touch the tub (if it's for a tub surround). There needs to be a small gap between the tub and base of the board so that wa
