I doubt it. I have an old gen 2 iPod. The headphone jack came adrift from the motherboard (a common problem). Other than that it seemed to be working fine. So, I took it apart and carefully (I thought) soldered the jack back to the pads on the motherboard. It was a delicate operation, with the need to solder about 8 small pads. I thought the operation had gone well, but now the patient shby davester - Tips and Deals
I'm guessing that when you added the new account (the 401k), the value was entered in to the account as "cash". You were then supposed to do a bunch of "buy" transactions within that account to buy mutual funds with the cash without transferring any new money into the account. It sounds as though you may have instead transferred the mutual funds into the account in additionby davester - Tips and Deals

I'm a couple of hours into copying an entire itunes collection from my beige g3 to my albook. The albook is connected to airport. Unfortunately, the microwave got turned on, thereby scrambling the airport connection and the g3 disappeared from the server list. I reconnected, but the copy operation is still stalled. anyway to get it started again?by davester - Tips and Deals
The jury is still out, but I'd be wary of using any antibacterial products in the home. They have no proven benefits and there is a definite risk that they can kill beneficial bacteria while promoting the breeding of bacteria resistant to antibacterial agents. The only people who say there are no risks are industry apologists like Steven Milloy. IMHO, anything he says is usually likely to be aby davester - Tips and Deals
Apple has always done this. They are always switching standards to go with what seems to be the best path to the future. They don't look back (too much). Just think, if they retained firewire functionality you'd have a bigger and more expensive iPod. Not a good marketing move for them.by davester - Tips and Deals
I don't think the video iPod is compatible with the dock to firewire adapter.by davester - Tips and Deals
It seems to me that in that kind of weather you should have winter tires on all four anyway. They will help out some in snow because of the deeper wider grooves and hydrophilic compound. It's questionable whether they'll help in ice. Just get a cheapo set of extra wheels and put your winter tires on. It won't cost you any more in the long run since you'll have two sets of tires but only use tby davester - Tips and Deals
Chains go on the driving wheels. There is no "considerable difference of opinion" unless you're talking about 4wd. In the 4wd case, it is generally unsafe to put them on the front in any but the most severe conditions because in a braking situation the fronts will grab and the rear will slip, thus spinning the car. Check any car owner's manual, chain site or off-roading site. If yby davester - Tips and Deals

Until last week it was a 6100. I gave it away to someone just starting out in computers who just wanted something for word processing, spreadsheets, quicken, etc, so it's still functioning, just not in my house. My beige G3 still gets tons of use...works like a charm, is fast and stable. The only downside is no multitasking and lack of new software for it.by davester - Tips and Deals

How is ReplayTV not mainstream, bfd? It's a package that works perfectly right out of the box and has an intuitive interface, unlike many of the highly buggy cable company boxes that incorporate tuners. I'm not quite sure what you're saying. A ReplayTV will work fine with almost any source. Outside tuners are controlled either by a direct serial connection to the replay, or via an IR blaster.by davester - Tips and Deals

Neither. I stick with the local shopping districts because they keep the neighborhoods alive that make our town nice to live in. I've never been into a Walmart, and only occasionally venture to a Target store. The box stores are a pox on the landscape. The choice is entirely dependent on where you drive. If you spend a lot of time driving in deserted rural areas or offroad you should either upgrade your headlights or get driving lights. It's pretty likely that upgrading your headlights would give you more bang for the buck than driving lights. Also, driving lights are generally illegal for onroad use.
