My understanding is that you don't unless you get an error message. Cleaning tapes are abrasive and can damage the heads. A crucial thing to be aware of is that you should buy one brand of tape and stick with it, because the different tape formulations for some brands are incompatible and can result in a sticky gooey mess on your camcorder heads...this is much more important than head cleaning.

At Macworld Expo, a massive and successful software company, with a brand spanking new mac software release which earned them a best in show award was stuck waaaaay over in the back 40 of the exhibit floor, with a microscopic booth and only one rep (who couldn't answer any of the detailed technical questions about their featured product). Who was it?.....

I was at the garmin booth yesterday. Currently, none of their mapping GPS units will work with OS X. Support is currently limited to the forerunner and edge models, though the reps said they were expecting full support across the model line before the end of the year.

Thanks grim ninja. I thought that was the best way to go, but with a free computer in hand and the $110 g4 upgrade deal at the macworld expo fastmac booth I felt myself being sucked into an upgrade vortex.

My 78 year old mom has decided she doesn't want a computer any more so I'm getting her 266 mhz g3 imac. I think it's got 256 + 32 mb RAM in it. I was wondering what would make the most sense:
1. Leave it as is and give it to my son for schoolwork, older games, etc...it'll network into our home ethernet just fine.
2. Buy a cheapo 466 mhz g4 upgrade card from fastmac ($110 to $150), drop in

This really seems stupid to me. I can deal with the elimination of FW800 and the move to a new but currently useless PCMCIA replacement and the elimination of S-video, and the reduction in screen resolution, but a modem? It's a laptop for chrissake! It MUST HAVE a modem to be useful as a portable workstation. The optional modem is both ridiculous in that it can't be installed inside the box a

Just to let you know, those "satellite" maps where you can actually pick out things like rooflines and cars are NOT satellite images. They are low-level airphoto mosaics. There are only so many public domain airphoto sets available, so the various mapping services (Yahoo, Google, Microsoft, Terraserver) use the same data sets, though they each decide which is the preferable image set

I'm sure I ran into a whole slew of 'em at macworld this afternoon, but I didn't recognize them and my nametag didn't say "davester" so nobody recognized me.
Oh, by the way, I'm the guy who didn't win the 17" powerbook at the filemaker booth or the eyetv ez at the eyetv booth.

When I was last in Houston, the most interesting thing to do was to drive over to Johnson Space Flight Center and look at all the big rockets (Saturn V!!). It's a ways out of town, but worth it IMHO.

Our old house was remodelled in the '60s and they apparently replaced the prior gas stove with a "modern" electric range which is a nightmare to cook with. We are planning on picking up a '50s vintage gas range to restore things back more the way they were and to make our cooking experience dramatically better. The only thing is, I'm wondering whether I need to worry about venting the

If you really want to have the deck last in inclement weather (and look MUCH more beautiful), use deckmaster brackets. Installing them is a lot more pleasant than nailing too.
I've replaced a lot of rotted out decks and they rot because of two things:
1. The nail or screwholes on top trap moisture and they rot around the screwholes. Deckmasters will completely eliminate this problem.

Nope, I slept about 100 feet back from the guy in the picture. As I recall, the caves were used by early denizens of Crete, but I forget the exact story. An idyllic spot.

Ya know, that's just too much information, and not something that a radio can solve. Say hi to Howard next time you two have an intimate moment together.

If you don't like fish, why don't you find something else to eat? There's plenty of nutritious food that can take the place of fish. The world of food is so vast and diverse that I think it's crazy to force yourself to eat something you basically don't like. For myself, I'm a fish lover, though I won't eat things that aren't real fresh. I'd hazard a guess that many folks who hate fish are thos

What an absurd vehicle. Marketing guys' concept: "Hey, let's build something that looks like an off-road vehicle, has 4wd so the driver can pretend he can go off-road, but we'll give it only enough ground clearance to barely get over supermarket speed bumps and put on low-profile tires that make it impossible to drive over any rocks without denting the rims".

I doubt you'll be able to beat that rate by refinancing. Like I said...do the math. Set up a spreadsheet with the different options and look at the after tax bottom line. The only reason to do a refi is to get a lower overall rate. It would be silly to combine the loans only to end up paying MORE. Calculate the effective interest rate on both current loans plus including adding the cost of P

I have to disagree with that...ice in a bucket of water is at freezing point. You definitely will do damage
