I went to TurboTax years ago when H&R Block changed an input of a catch-up retirement contribution amount back to the non-catch-up amount without any notice. I figured it out before I filed my taxes. It was simply not possible to put in the appropriate amount that year (surely it's been fixed by now...). I checked with a TurboTax product and it worked fine. So, I've been with them ever since.by Michael - Tips and Deals

QuoteAcer QuoteMr645 If I sell something for $600 and that counts as income, I guess I can write off the $1599 I pay for the item new? You can deduct that basis from the sale price when you file your taxes. If you paid $1500 for it, but sell it for $600, you don't owe any taxes on it. The IRS says that people who sell in a way that's equivalent to garage sales don't have to report the income.by Michael - Tips and Deals

For many years I've been cutting my wife's hair and she's been cutting mine. We started after I went to a hair place with her and 2 hours later we walked out after somebody pretty much cut straight lines across the back, sides and front of her hair; the sides were sloped but the front and back were horizontal. The person also did a thing where she held up pieces of my wife's hair and cut them atby Michael - Tips and Deals

I started working at a GA state community college in 1981. At that time they paid contingent faculty with PhD's $2500 to teach a course. When I retired in 2019 the place had become a GA state baccalaureate college. They paid contingent faculty $2500 to teach a course. My dean asked me if I'd teach part time after I retired. I told her I wouldn't because I had been advocating for a raise for contiby Michael - Tips and Deals

I'd get a script from a doctor for a, "Portable HEPA air filtration device." With that, let the administrator attempt to restrict her usage. If s/he does, I'd suggest they contact the school system's lawyer concerning the restriction. Hell, I think I'd also have the school buy the filters for it once it's approved!by Michael - 'Friendly' Political Ranting

If they'd add a single can to a 6/12 pack of Coke Zero I'd try it but I'm certainly not going to buy 6/12 of them. Maybe I'd do a 2-liter bottle if it comes out in that.by Michael - Tips and Deals
I just looked it up and the 12 piece Family Meal costs $32.99 and has between 5450 and 8520 calories. I presume that depends on which "fixins" you order as well as whether you get the 1/2 gallon of sweet tea or unsweetened tea. Of course, if you're in the South, what's the point in buying unsweetened tea! I love Bojangles but haven't bought any in years. Just too many calories in thaby Michael - Tips and Deals
Quotebazookaman For those that order online, how do you get the PD? They don't put that on the prescription. We buy Zenni glasses and used their instructions using a mm ruler. We each did it to ourselves and then did it to each other to be sure we had the numbers right. Zenni also sends a fake paper eyeglass thing with a mm ruler on it that allows you to measure PD when you buy glasses. It's noby Michael - Tips and Deals
I haven't bought hearing aids at Costco but I will if/when I need them. I've had my hearing checked there (free) every couple of years for the last 7 years. I've lost some high frequency abilities and they tell me I could use them but when we talk it's clear that I'm ambivalent so they don't push me at all. I only go get checked when my wife complains enough. Going stops the complaining for a yeaby Michael - Tips and Deals
At the beginning of the pandemic, lots of people went into crisis mode over toilet paper. We had some but right at 2 years ago we bought a big pack at Costco of some off-brand that they used to replace their own Kirkland brand when they couldn't get it. We got it home and my wife decided that she was too delicate for the stuff. So I used it in a bathroom that I usually use. Just yesterday I finisby Michael - Tips and Deals

I came to GA in 1976 when Sam Nunn and Herman Talmadge were the Senators. George Busbee was governor and Maynard Jackson was mayor of Atlanta. Everybody was a Democrat it seems; you'd have to go back into the 1800's to find a Republican in any of those offices. Back in those days you could vote on a machine that allowed a voter to choose all Dems or all Repubs with a single lever pull.by Michael - 'Friendly' Political Ranting

We've been getting the 5% back from the Amazon Prime card for some years. I tend to let that accumulate and then spend it down when it gets to $100 or so (right now it's $123.16). It is a bit disconcerting to see how often we end up with that much credit, meaning we've spent yet another $2000 at Amazon!by Michael - Tips and Deals
On our campus there's a long history of maintenance (that controls keys) not keeping track of who had keys to what. When I became a chair I had them change the pins on the locks for a couple of lab doors where things had disappeared over time. They grumbled but did it. We ended up with only the appropriate faculty members and me (along with maintenance, the cops, etc.) having keys for the labs. Mby Michael - Tips and Deals

I've been a member for a long time. I keep waiting to find one of their discounts that beats what else I'm able to find. My most recent quest was for dental insurance since United Health Care's option turns out to be a joke. The AARP version of the company we used through our employment is more expensive and has a lower payout than what I can get on my own from the same company. They allow a range of phones to be traded in for a deal. When we traded in our SE2020's on 12 Mini's it was easy in the store. But, the actual deal is rather convoluted; they give you some money up front and then there's a charge each month along with a credit. When the rep was explaining to me, I got lost in the weeds pretty quickly. But, I knew exactly how much we should be paying for the new pby Michael - Tips and Deals
