"where would you have them draw the line will?" I just can't understand why a student needs a discount on an iPod... that's a good place to start...by hal - Tips and Deals
Contact the (original) seller and ask. If the auction was for some popular thingy (mac, ipod), then expect bogus 2nd chance offers - happens EVERY TIME.by hal - Tips and Deals
I can't imagine how apple expects dialup users to get 300mb system updates online. There's no reason it can't set up with resume functions. BGNR is not here to help, but to get a sense of superiority by talking down to users with less knowledge. In his posts, he gives just enough info to show that HE knows the answer, but not enough to explain it to someone who needs help. He'll deny it ofby hal - Tips and Deals
2nd place bidders almost NEVER take the offer. If this is for a powerbook, your bidders probably already have rec'd bogus 2nd chance offers and your will really confuse them. Tell the bidder that, no offense, you HAVE to report him as a non paying bidder to get your fees back - this true. Show him the ebay page. It's also true that after three such strikes, his account may be terminated. Teby hal - Tips and Deals
from your account page - click on the 'Profile' tab up top under the 'selling preferences' column is a 'payment receiving preferences' link - that's itby hal - Tips and Deals
I like buying from newegg and zipzoomfly, but I recently placed an order with frys.com for a maxtor sata 500gb drive ($109) and a 1gb sodimm. The combined prices was better then anything I could find on NE or ZZF. So I decided to take the extra wait (Frys ships from mid west, others from CA - where I live) The frys order shipped promptly, but to my surprise, the bare drive arrived packaged inby hal - Tips and Deals

Now you know to never list BIN auctions without 'immediate payment' option as well. This will happed EVERY time for popular consumer electronics. The auction is over - there is no way to cancel a bid on a closed auction. All you can do is go through the system to get your fees back (you have already been charged) and relist it. Go to my ebay, scroll to the bottom and look at the help linksby hal - Tips and Deals
I think that the OS hacks like onyx can do that. Pretty sure that it can't be done by the OS alone.by hal - Tips and Deals
THere are ways to pay other than cash, but none are 100% fool proof. Put any method suggested here into google with the word 'scam' or something like that and you will find the weaknesses of that kind of transaction. If you get scammed you will quickly become one of those 'cash only' types.by hal - Tips and Deals
You might want to call. I'm in midtown and today the fedex ground guy could find my address. My address like this: 1234 XXStreet where XX is a number between 1 and 26... If you can count and know the alphabet, it shouldn't be that hard to find me. I saw a 'delivery exception - wrong address' on the tracking info. The address was NOT wrong. The driver was a moron...by hal - Tips and Deals
I deserve to be on both lists (as you did) I tried the first time and failed, but succeeded with the Ritz order. Arrived today.by hal - Tips and Deals
the only problem is 2x clicking? TELL me you have tried a different mouse...by hal - Tips and Deals
I thought it was USPS, but it's a fedex ground number. Use fedex tracker.by hal - Tips and Deals
you have everything backed up - right? if so, start with disk warrior and report back. yes, it's a bad sign. Your hard drive might be dying, but could also be related to your optical drive or external devices - unplug them before you try troubleshooting...by hal - Tips and Deals
me too jdc. it's only a usps delivery confirmation number. Usually doesn't get into the system until after delivery. If it ships from fresno, we should see them by tomorrow.by hal - Tips and Deals
bruce - you need to call the big three credit bureaus NOW. Ask if there have been any new credit accounts opened in your name. Chances are that you are only seeing the tip of the iceberg. It might well be that you'll spend the next two weeks on the phone canceling dozens of credit accounts. Hope not, but you should be on the phone first thing in the morn to TRW (or whatever they call themselvesby hal - Tips and Deals
my order for one went through also - decided to not be greedy...by hal - Tips and Deals
Imagine if you had sold that loser in 2000 and put the proceeds into aapl - you'd be WAY out of that hole now...by hal - Tips and Deals
This happens all the time. I was in Orange Co when they evacuated the whole place. Barely a blip on the news that day and the next.by hal - Tips and Deals
Isn't your sister a HS student? How valuable could her data possibly be? A term paper? I'm just curious... what was lost?by hal - Tips and Deals
on the other hand, holding onto a laptop for more than 3 years creates a gigantic loss in the machine's value. I've hardly spent a dime since my 867mhz Ti 15" model. I have a 2.16 dualcore now. And let me tell you, it's a LOT faster.by hal - Tips and Deals
yeah, I understand... I never did get around to selling my pismo...by hal - Tips and Deals
I never let my laptops get to be 1 year old before I sell them. I find a rock bottom purchase price and sell the current for top dollar on ebay. Usually the sale price of the old machine will equal the cost of the new one. AT THE VERY LEAST - the sale price of the old one + $300 (apple care cost) will get you a new machine. Why would anyone want to keep the same machine for 3 years whenby hal - Tips and Deals
sounds like the hard drive and the dvd drive are dead... try booting from an external hard driveby hal - Tips and Deals
No doubt apple hasn't done it because the technology isn't ready yet.by hal - Tips and Deals
thanks for that report 645 - very pertinent to what I'm wanting to learn. Even my macbook pro 2.16 core duo - 1gb, feels about as fast in many ways as the G5. Thinking of selling it and getting a 2.0 mac pro... btw... 'blazing' is the way it felt when i first used it. Still feels damn fast, but I'm beginnign to think that the mac pro might really kick it's ass with universal appsby hal - Tips and Deals
No point in trying to guess really - you can't know until you do a lot of work on it. It IS covered under warranty - right?by hal - Tips and Deals
I've got a blazing fast 2.5 dual g5 with 4gb mem, raid startup and tons of storage... How will a mac pro feel compared to my g5? How much memory do you have in you MP? How different was 1gb from 2, 4, 8gb? Any surprises? Things that you liked/disliked that you didn't consider when buying? And what's with the dual enet ports? any random comments would be appreciated...by hal - Tips and Deals
