Tried to restart the computer and it wouldn't because System Pref was holding it up... finally needed to reboot from the terminal, sudo reboot. Everything seems to be working now.

Tried that. Would like to use the terminal, but tried the kill command, and dragged the system pref app into the terminal, but it said it needs to be a process or job ID.

System Preference app will not quit. Force quit doesn't work. Don't see system pref in Activity Monitor to kill it there. I know a computer restart will do it, but can't do that now. Other ideas?

All my kids have them and don't complain. They are usually listening to them relatively quietly in their rooms, so they don't seem to care that much. They are just happy that they can link it to their Spotify account so they can listen to their own playlists.

"Renew DHCP Lease" helps web pages load? - 3 years ago

Recently, Chrome browser (mostly, although sometimes happens in Safari) seems to hang when trying to load pages. It'll just sit there and do nothing. I've found that if I "Renew DHCP Lease" in the network system preference, the page then loads immediately. Any thoughts as to why this is and any setting that I might change so I'm not having to do this all day. Yeah, I could use

Thanks for all the help. I decided to spend a little extra, since this computer should last 5 years easy, and just get an SSD in there. I can always add external storage if need be later (mostly for photos), but for now it'll be good and my wife won't start thinking negative thoughts about Macs.

I charge my Tesla Model 3 to 80-90% capacity daily. That's Tesla's recommendation for daily driving. But if you need the extra range, then go ahead and go to 100% capacity.

Ok. Return it is. But... I'm just not sure about the fusion drive. 1TB is good, but it's only 32GB SSD that worries me. My wife will NOT be happy if I buy a new machine that is just as slow as this thing. I don't really like the idea of having external drives, but I guess another way to go is having a smaller internal SSD and a larger USB drive (I really don't like this option). Any

I was afraid of that... a little disappointing that this drive is what they have as the "default".... guess I'll be returning it for one with either an SSD (prices are pretty high) or a "fusion drive".... What is the consensus on the fusion drive. Does it make this thing useable? And BTW... the old 2013 iMac had a 5400 drive, and the thing worked great.

Our 2013 iMac's logic board died last week. Didn't think a $500 fix was worth it, so purchased a brand new (just updated). It's used by my wife for simple web surfing, email, iMessages, and Photos. Nothing heavy. It's a 4K, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB 5400 HD. So.... it's SOOOOO slow. Spinning beachballs all the time. Try to open an app and it takes 10-12 seconds to open. Everything is like mud.
